Nigeria In State Of Anomie – Mimiko

Olusegun Mimiko

ABEOKUTA – Olusegun Mimiko, the Presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Monday, said he is contesting because of his concern for Nigeria which he said is in the state of anomie.

The two-term governor of Ondo State stated this while featuring on an interactive programme on an Abeokuta based radio station tagged: ‘Fact Finder’ monitored by Daily Independent.

The former Minister said Nigeria has become known for all the negatives developments including killing, youth unemployment and poverty, saying if he was satisfied with state of affairs in Nigeria, he would not have been vying for the presidency.

The former governor popularly called ‘Iroko’ equally dismissed the belief that he is not consistent following his defections from one party to another in the last three years.

He blamed his defections on internal sabotage and infractions from the parties he had dumped, insisting that he has always been consistent with his political ideology.

His words: “If I were satisfied with the current affairs in this country I would not be running for president.

“I believe we are in the state of anomie in this country. Never in this country, we have found ourselves in the preferential challenge, never in the history of this country has our unity been threatened, never in the history of this country have lives been so devalued. It’s killings, killings and killings every day.

“Killings from Fulani herdsmen/farmers clash, killings from Boko Haram insurgency, killings from road accident. Even our women die in pregnancy. The chances that pregnant women will die are highest in Nigeria in the whole wide world.

“We have suddenly become poverty capital. I don’t think things are going right in this country. The rate of unemployment is very challenging.

“Some of us decided that we must stand up because we care to challenge the state of affairs in this country.

On the last governorship election in Ondo State, Mimiko revealed that the PDP was held down by the Federal Government until few days to the election, adding that this happened with the support of some insiders in the party.

Dismissing insinuations of working for the emergence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Mimiko said the loss was deliberately orchestrated by the government at the center and some fifth columnist within the party.

“We had no time to campaign, we were held down by the government who was desperate to with the election and with the support of some fifth columnist within the party, we didn’t get ballot paper until few days to the election.

“They deliberately stopped us because they know I can win when I want to win and they think the only way to stop Mimiko is to hold us down.

“The question of collision didn’t arise, there was no need for it, I remain loyal to my ideas that are just a figment of their imagination and concoction of some devils, I deny it categorically.
