Lagos – The Lagos State chapter of Igunuko cultural group has declared their support for the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Owolabi Salis.
The traditionalist endorses the gubernatorial candidate yesterday at the Igunuko 2018 cultural festival held in Mafoluku area of Lagos State.
Chairman of the group, Mudashiru Maculey while speaking at the occasion said: “It is the first time a candidate that has passion, for culture and traditional values is coming out to contest as a governor for the state.
“We endorsed your candidacy based on the promises you made that you will declare setting aside day to celebrate Isese day (cultural day to worship gods)
“We express our enthusiasm for this is the first time that a member is coming out boldly to contest for the number one seat in the state.”
In his address, Salis reassure the group of his commitment to tradition and culture noting that he will partner and invest on culture.
According to him, “Iâ€
m a believer of tradition and culture. Culture is important to me. We will raise African culture. African culture is the number one transnational culture in the world.
“Yoruba is the third, when I say transnational, I mean a culture that is practiced by other races. African culture is after Christianity and Islam.
“There is nothing bad to declare Isese day. I will invest heavily on culture. Am going to visit some shrines and tell you how to modernise it. Culture is one of the reasons am in this race.”
Earlier at a meeting with Council of Imams in Epe and Alimosho Division of the state, the governorship candidate Salis said his government would be for the people, most especially the grassroots.
He said, “There is suffering in the land, and we cannot continue to let our commonwealth be in the hands of certain individuals.”
He further noted that he was not contesting to bargain saying “I am a man of good pedigree and I am not a man anyone can push around, I mean business.”
In his word, he said he has started door to door campaign so as to know the needs of the people, added that he remains the man to beat in the governorship race of Lagos State.
“I am not just a candidate for AD, I am a candidate for the less privileged in APC, PDP and other parties and together we are going to rescue power from the hand of individuals and give it to the masses in the state.
“Most of those contesting for the seat of Lagos state governor are zero -focused in terms of the masses need but I am going to deliver Lagosians from slavery of poverty, lack of good shelter, education and other pressing challenges facing the people in the state,” he said.
