Michael Orji: Graduate shares pictures of how he worked as bricklayer to survive in school
Orji said that he survived working as a bricklayer when he was in 300 and 400 level.
A fresh graduate of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Abia state has excitedly shared pictures of how he worked as a bricklayer to survive through University.
Orji Joseph, who graduated with second class honour in Mathematics was happy to share the pictures of himself carrying bricks with the caption that was apparently addressed to his friends saying, “This is why I miss class and probably dozed in class”
Orji said that he survived working as a bricklayer when he was in 300 and 400 level.
He wrote:
I planned on sharing this photo @ the peak of my career… Nevertheless, I believe it’s out here today to encourage someone to keep trusting God.
Laugh small & celebrate with *Mouwa* This was how I survived 300l & 400l. This was one of the reasons I made a Good Chief Usher on campus. From this came the fund for writing & presenting my project. For the photocopies & all; from this came the fund #To_my_Course_mates; this is why I missed classes & probably dozed in class(lol).

Why undergraduates do odd jobs
The socio-economic conditions of Nigeria propels a lot of undergraduates to do odd jobs to see themselves through university and polytechnic education. While students like Orji choose to assist artisans at their work places and get paid, some female students find solace in sex work.
A lot of undergraduate female students often blame poverty and economic condition of the country as the reason for their engagement in sex work on campus.

Tech: Google is bringing its own take on Instagram-like stories to YouTube (GOOG)
The concept is a little different from that of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp stories, though.
YouTube is adopting the "stories" format made popular by Instagram and Snapchat, but with its own spin.
The new feature is called "Reels," and will allow creators to take advantage of a dedicated tab inside their channel's page to put stacks of 30-second clips there to share with their audience.
Creators can shoot video from within the app, and then do some basic editing like adding text, filters, stickers, or some background music.
Reels won't be displayed at the top of the app, so they won't have the same prominence as stories have on Facebook's services and Snapchat, but YouTube told TechCrunch that it might reconsider their position if the feature takes off.
There's also another major difference: Videos inside Reels won't disappear after 24 hours, as stories normally do, and won't need to be under a centralised feed either.
This means that youtubers will be able to create multiple, topic-based Reels, and fill them up at will for people to enjoy at any time — putting the focus of Reels on the content's story rather than the person's.
YouTube said that the feature will first arrive in beta, but didn't specify a date, say how long it plans for it to stay in beta, or which creators will get to use Reels first.

Allardyce arrives at Everton for Rooney's Hammer-blow hat-trick
Sam Allardyce saw Wayne Rooney cap his first Premier League hat-trick in six years with a wonder strike as Everton beat fellow strugglers West Ham United 4-0 on Wednesday after the Merseysiders announced he was finalising terms to become their new manager.
Allardyce’s imminent appointment will end Everton’s long hunt for a successor to Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last month.
Veteran English manager Allardyce arrived at Goodison Park in the company of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and the pair saw Rooney, in his second spell with his hometown club, score twice inside the opening half-hour.
But it was his 66th-minute effort that will be talked about for years to come.
From fully 60 yards out, Rooney struck the ball over the head of his former England team-mate Joe Hart after the Hammers goalkeeper had rushed out of his box to boot the ball into Everton’s half.
Victory moved Everton up into 13th place in the table and go left them five points clear of the relegation zone.
West Ham, managed by former Everton boss David Moyes, remained in the bottom three and two points shy of safety.
Everton went ahead in the 18th minute after Hart brought down Dominic Calvert-Lewin to concede a penalty.
Hart saved Rooney’s spot-kick only for the experienced forward to head home the rebound.
And 10 minutes later Everton were 2-0 up when Rooney, given his league debut by Moyes as a 16-year-old in 2002, shot home from 12 yards out following a cross from Tom Davies.
At 2-0 down the Hammers still had a chance to force their way back into the match, but Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved a penalty from Manuel Lanzini after Ashley Williams hacked down Diafra Sakho.
Then came Rooney’s extraordinary hat-trick goal before Williams headed in Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner 12 minutes from time.
If this was indeed David Unsworth’s last a match as Everton caretaker boss, it was a fine way for the club’s former Under-23s manager to bow out.
Unsworth had been in temporary charge since Koeman was sacked on October 23 and he had made clear his desire to take on the job permanently.
But Wednesday’s victory was just Everton’s second in eight matches under Unsworth, during which time they’ve lost five and conceded 20 goals.
‘Strong leader’
An Everton statement released earlier Wednesday announced Allardyce’s upcoming appointment.
“Sam Allardyce will be at USM Finch Farm (Everton’s training ground) this afternoon to finalise terms on becoming the new manager of Everton Football Club,” it read.
The Daily Mail reported Allardyce had signed an 18-month deal and quoted Moshiri saying: “We need a strong leader. He gives us that.”
Allardyce, 63, had ruled himself out of the running earlier this month, saying he did not feel Everton were convinced he was the right man.
But after the Liverpool club’s pursuit of Watford head coach Marco Silva proved fruitless, Everton returned to Allardyce.
This will be the 10th English club managerial position taken up by Allardyce, who established his reputation at Bolton Wanderers and guided Crystal Palace to safety last season.
When he left Selhurst Park in May, Allardyce said he didn’t want another management job, but the chance to turn around Everton’s fortunes appears to have lured him back.
Everton invested heavily following last season’s impressive seventh-place finish, but results have fallen well below pre-season expectations.
Allardyce has previously led Palace and Sunderland to safety from precarious situations.
His achievements at the Stadium of Light earned him his dream job with England, but that turned sour after only one match, with Allardyce stepping down in September 2016 following a newspaper sting.

Whistleblower Policy: FG ready to pay Ikoyi whistleblower, others N421m – Kemi Adeosun
She revealed that the reward will be paid directly to the whistleblowers.
Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has announced the readiness of the Federal Government to pay out a total of N421 million to whistleblowers in November as stipulated in the Whistleblower Policy.
The minister made the disclosure after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.
She revealed that the money will be paid directly to the whistleblowers who signed agreements with the government and applicable taxes will be paid directly to the state government where they live.
She said, "The total amount, which also include Osborne Road, Ikoyi is N421,330,595. This is for the November batch and it is ready for payment.
"The only condition necessary is that the money will be paid to the whistle-blower who signed the agreement, not to any company.
"If we get the court judgement, we have to wait for three months to ensure that there are no encumbrances."
"We will also make sure that all applicable taxes are paid ahead. We will get in touch with the state government where the person is domiciled and we will pay the tax directly to the state and issue the tax receipt.
"We built in these procedures to protect the whistle-blower."

Payment controversy
A storm had been created over the payment of the stipulated 5% commission promised whistleblowers after one accused the government of refusing to pay what he was owed.
While speaking at the 7th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Austria, on Thursday, November 9, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, had said the whistleblower was already a millionaire by virtue of the percentage he was officially entitled to.
The unnamed whistleblower behind the discovery of $43.5 million, £27,800 and N23.2 million from an Ikoyi apartment at No. 16 Osborne Road, in Lagos responded by publicly condemning the EFCC for failing to pay him.
Through his lawyer, Yakubu Galadima, the whistleblower said the agency had instead subjected him to unfair treatment.
He also dismissed reports that he would receive N350 million reward, saying that the actual figure was N850 million.
In response to the public condemnation that trailed the development, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, clarified the government's position, explaining that the whistleblower in question is part of the batch that would be paid in November.
She explained that failure to pay the whistleblower was a procedural one and that more than 20 people have already been paid under the provision of the policy.
Since the public spat started, another person has laid claim to being the real whistleblower and has dragged the EFCC to court, with the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), also joined as respondents in the suit.

P&G Nigeria: Brand commits to building local manufacturing capabilities
Nigeria has recently intensified effort to reduce its reliance on imports and improve its global trade competitiveness.
Nigeria has recently intensified effort to reduce its reliance on imports and improve its global trade competitiveness.
However, a huge percent of industrial raw materials for manufacturing of products are still being imported into the country. Statistics from the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) shows that in 2016, the country spent N5.89 trillion on the importation of raw materials; thus, bringing the total sum spent on the importation of primary raw materials into the country in seven years to N19.5tn.
On the average, the country spent N2.79tn every year within this period.
In order to stem the tide, the current administration has the localization agenda as one of its priorities for the emergence of the manufacturing sector in the country.
In the 3 quarter of 2016, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) was set up to look into the various ways of enhancing business operations in Nigeria and to empower citizens through employment in the areas of sourcing and processing of raw materials; to foster the overall growth of the economy and ensure that that nation becomes self-reliant.
For the manufacturing sector to experience potential growth going forward, it needs to focus its efforts on local production and company’s like Procter and Gamble are taking deliberate steps to support the Federal Governments economic development agenda. P&G currently manufactures its products close to consumers and this has aided technology transfer.
The company which is committed to the Nigerian economy, has invested over 500 million dollars in the country till date. These funds have been deployed into the construction of her two manufacturing plants, localization of manpower, and the growth of Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which is incorporated into the supply chain of the organization.
Just recently, the organization in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) convened suppliers in the manufacturing sector to chart a course that will develop the economy. The sustainable supply of raw materials in the right quantity and quality from within the country would lead to the creation of jobs, as well as the generation of wealth within the economy, and a source of revenue for the government.
Speaking on the objectives of the meetings; Temitope Iluyemi, Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for Procter & Gamble Sub Saharan Africa Operations said; “Backward integration is essential to the growth of the Nigerian economy and P&G’s aim is to encourage our global partners to do the same and thereby promote technology transfer.
We will work to pre-qualify local suppliers for materials used in the production of consumer packaged products and by extension, build capability of local manufacturers to compete effectively in regional value chains and further strengthen the diversification efforts of the Nigerian government.”
The Nigerian economy has tremendously benefited from the organization’s drive to be a Nigerian company of international standard as the organization has continually contributed positively to the society by using its expertise and products to solve social, environmental and economic problems.
The company’s continuous local investment is a testament to its commitment to support the Federal Government’s diversification efforts.
It is imperative for all sectors to intensify efforts towards enabling local entrepreneurship development and helping with the capabilities required to produce raw materials locally. This will go a long way in actualizing the country’s economic development agenda.

Adesua Etomi: Kunle Remi wants people to stop referring to him as actress' ex
Kunle Remi has come out to warn those who have been speculating that he was in a relationship with actress, Adesua Etomi.
The actor made this know on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, via his Instagram page where he wrote quite a lengthy message on the issue, hopefully trying to set the records straight.
"Silence, they say is Golden. I have been silent, but some people have taken this as an invitation to take the piss!! I have chosen my words and thought this action through, so read carefully, yes, pay attention I will only say this once. I am not a bitter person neither am I a sadist. ‘If’ you know me, (if you don’t, ask about me from those that do) you would know I am a very positive and I radiate good vibes only, I am not here for any form of negativity whatsoever.
"My name has been used inappropriately, and it is time I set the record straight. I intentionally waited till after the festive of the beautiful wedding ceremony had come to a natural halt out of respect for the couple. I have not till this present day said to any blogger, or mentioned on any social media platform, or granted any interview admitting or confirming that I was ever in a relationship with the former Miss Adesua Etomi who as well all know tied the knot over the past weekend, neither do I recall her doing the same.
"Yet some jobless people cooked up stories and sold it to other jobless people and then jobless readers and commentators believed it and hence the rumors started circulating with no proof other than pictures of us on a Movie set titled (FALLING. A great film by the way, It’s on Netflix if you haven’t seen it.). Contrary to the opinion of people who feel theirs matters, I don’t have to congratulate the beautiful couple publicly to prove anything. Some of us would rather do our things privately. You CAN’T believe all you see on social media (some people will still not understand).
ALSO READ: Nigerians react to Banky W's and Adesua Etomi's social media blunder
"Take for example ; Recently I posted a picture of my Beautiful Nephew on my Instagram and as expected, rumors started again without any confirmation that I have a baby. (Quote me) I never confirmed to anyone that he is My Son. So there you go!!. Not all you see or read on social media is the gospel truth. Having said that this is my advice to those this may concern; Just for your sanity try to be sure about the rumors and gist before you tongue lash people or judge people.
"Sometimes Not every one is strong enough to handle it. If you don’t know anything or if you are not sure, you don’t have to comment or curse people just SHUT UP. “If You don’t talk (in cases like this) you won’t die”.BE SURE BEFORE YOU JUDGE ANYONE, OR BETTER STILL DON’T. THAT’S WHY GOD SAYS HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN JUDGE US ALL. Don’t Curse yourself.
"Thank you for reading.PS : Next Time you want to talk about me or refer to me. My Name is KUNLE REMI, the charming, charismatic , God Fearing, hardworking , Gentlemen but you can just call me THE ACTOR!! Signed MANAGEMENT," he wrote.

Morning Teaser: 'My married female boss has been harassing me sexually'
Eddy is on the verge of losing his job after his married female boss gave him an ultimatum to have sex with her or face her wrath.
"Dear Pulse,
My name is Eddy, a 28-year-old man working in a consulting firm in Lagos. I got the job through a friend who recommended me after he was leaving for another job.
Before I got the job, I had been searching for over two years after I lost my last job so I decided to put everything into it and make a mark. I took on extra responsibility and was always willing to take up new tasks.
I was soon the favourite of most senior staff who felt I was making a good impact on the company and after three months, I was promoted to a line manager and that was when my problem started.
A new General Manager was brought in from the head office and was to be in charge of my department. The new GM turned out to be a woman in her early 40s and though she was not a beauty queen, she was pretty in her own right.

During the general introductions, she told us she was married with three children and even in her office, she had photographs of her husband and children on her table and on the walls.
From the moment she resumed, the GM took a special interest in me and made sure I was always at hand whenever she had a special assignment. While others saw her as a very difficult person to work with, it was a pleasure working with her because she was very free with me.
She began telling me about her family, how she and her husband have been having problems for a while and how her marriage was not as happy as she makes it look. There were days she would lock herself in her office and cry and I would comfort her the best I could.
I was shocked one day when she told me that she and her husband had not had sex for over six months and how he starves her sexually. I was very uncomfortable with the discussion and tried to change the topic.
But she asked me if she was not good enough for a man and I told her any sane man would be glad to have her as a wife.
We were still talking when she moved closer to me and planted a kiss on my lips. I was taken aback and quickly moved away from her and told her very politely to pull herself together but she told me she would do anything for me to sleep with her there and then in her office.

She was behaving like a woman in heat and it took all my willpower to keep her at bay and leave the office but since that day, she has been on my neck almost every day, begging me to sleep with her, promising me heaven and earth as a reward.
Now she has given me an ultimatum to either sleep with her or I will get to see the bad side of her and I would not like what will come out of it. She told me that I stand the risk of losing my job if I continue to resist her.
I am really confused. There are no jobs waiting for me out there if I am sacked but I also do not want to sleep with another man's wife.
Eddy."
Dear readers, Eddy is between a rock and a hard place and he needs to take a decision soon or risk losing his job. On Morning Teaser today, we want you to tell him what he should do.

Kano Pillars striker, Gambo Mohammed, is grateful to the club for accepting him back following a failed move to Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Plateau United, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The talented forward was keen on securing a move to Plateau United and was photographed wearing the Jos club’s jersey despite Pillars insisting he was not for sale.
The player had since apologised to the management of the Sai Masu Gida and has been readmitted by the club.
“I don’t really want to talk about the move to Plateau United now because that’s in the past now,” the former fringe Nigeria international opened up in a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The most important thing now is that Kano Pillars have accepted me back and I appreciate them for that.
“Now, I want to defend the club’s colour again and possibly win the title next season.”

He said “We are horrified by the reports and footage of hundreds of Africans, including Nigerians, being sold into slavery by slave dealers in Libya as published by CNN and several other international media houses.
“These videos show men, women and children being sold for as little as $400. They also show the dehumanizing conditions in which these victims are kept, beaten, starved and killed.
“It is shocking to find that slave trade, a horrible part of African history which is best confined to our collective past and best studied to avoid a repeat, is being conducted so brazenly in these modern times.
“As part of efforts to condemns these acts of inhumanity, we shall be holding peaceful sit outs in front of the Libyan Embassy in Abuja, on Thursday November 30th, 2017.
