Banky W, Adesua Etomi: Guys, now is the time to take a break from social media

Banky W and Adesua Etomi

Now that the wedding is over, Banky W and Adesua Etomi should take a break from social media

Dear Banky W and Adesua Etomi,

Congrats on the beautiful wedding ceremonies in Lagos and Cape Town.

You guys shut it down, my Instagram feed was all about #BAAD2017, even though Ebuka wanted to steal your shine with his deconstructed agbada.

Now it's the honeymoon phase. Aunty Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde told you guys, is time to stay off social media and cool off. How timely is this advice.

This piece of advice is timely after today's blunder on Instagram. We are all humans and we will label this as a mistake. It happens to the best of men.

My man Banky W, we get it that you are happy about marrying the love of your life. It's a normal feeling, every married man has felt this way too. Right now, you feel like jumping for joy and screaming at the top of your lungs. You have a beautiful wife and you want to show her to the world.

However, it's not everything you put on social media. Now is the time to have a private marriage. No one has the right to know what is going in your marriage and bedroom. Yes, in this era of social media, some things are still scared and off-limits to the general public.

Social media for all its of advantages adds unnecessary layers of scrutiny on celebrity marriages. You guys don't want to end up as a statistic. A stable marriage should not be sacrificed on the altar of views, likes and tweets.

A marriage is between two people only. It doesn't include fans or trolls posing as fans. Privacy is an essential ingredient for any relationship. Sharing videos on Instagram and SnapChat is the same thing as welcoming strangers into your matrimonial home. It becomes messy when you allow social media addicts into your lives.

We cannot take away the fact that you guys are celebrities and there will be aspects of your marriage that would overlap onto the red carpet. Of course, appearing at events and featuring in the same movies are some of them. If it has nothing to do with your professional lives, it shouldn't be on social media for consumption.

Please, resist the urge or the temptation to milk your marriage for social media currency. A satisfying marriage beats going viral on social media. Don't do it for hashtags, do it for yourselves.

The wedding rings are now on. The cameras should come down. The social media apps should be off. Privacy should be paramount and not pushed aside.

What would JAY-Z do? What would King Beyonce do? I am using this couple as examples because they do not put on a show for social media. What happens at home stays at home. Even during their rocky moments, they had a firm grip on what they wanted us to know. They have never been pressurized to unveil all the tiny details of their marriage.

Banky W and Adesua Etomi, the wedding ceremony is over now. This is the time to work on a lasting and fulfilling partnership. Social media shouldn't come into the picture. Your fans on social media will be fine if they don't hear from you in the next three months.

Please stay off social media.

Yours sincerely,

a fan who believes The Wedding Party will make N750m at the box office
