A pastor has the solution to all your problems and the prince must marry the poor maid; here are nine popular Nollywood movie formulas.
In the late 90s and early 2000s, there were certain clichés that were apparent in almost every Nollywood movie you came across.
Pulse Movies has shared nine Nollywood movie formulas that were popular in the 90s.
Here we go;
1. Your villagers are evil people
Once you lose your job, fall ill, lose a loved one or your property; your village people are at work.
Nobody has said that there's no 'wicked' villager chasing you around in the city, but, perhaps, your laziness or mistakes could just be the reason for all your problems.
2. Dates must always involve a fast food joint and the beach
In the 90s and 2000s, the only way for viewers to know that Emeka Ike truly loved an on-screen pair is if he took her for shopping, to a fast food joint or to the beach.
They would walk, run around or feed each other while the couples would run around trees or in the rain while they lip-synced their favourite song.

3. The maid takes the place of the madam
The "madam" probably has difficulty bearing a child. The seemingly harmless maid seduces her husband, gets pregnant and takes over the affairs of the house.
4. The Gateman must be funny
If there's one rule in most comedy movies, it's that the Gateman – who is mostly portrayed to be from the Northern part of the country – has to be a "comedian.".
He is portrayed as stupid in order to appear funny, and they are not allowed to act smart or deliver smart lines.

5. A Pastor has the solution to all your problems
First, there's no disputing the fact that almost every Nigerian believes in a supreme being. But then, let's be realistic, a prayer from a pastor doesn't automatically mean that all your problems get to disappear.
Sometimes, you need to see a doctor or a therapist.
6. Every ritualist must die, or repent and lose everything
I get the "a soul that sinneth must die" plot, but the truth is that most evil men don't die because of their ill-gotten money. They die because of old age.
People make 'blood money,' and still live longer than that pure man who has never thought of doing evil.

7. The Prince must marry the poor girl
The Prince must be betrothed to a princess or a lady of his class. He is interested until he comes across a poor villager or a maid in the village.
His parents who are concerned about their reputation will oppose the relationship but will lose as the Prince always marries the poor girl.
8. You must tilt your head back before a flashback
Before the wicked uncle in the village passes away, he must remember his visit to the village native doctor.
And for him to successfully remember, he must tilt his head back and probably close his eyes.
9. To God Be The Glory
Finally, what's a Nollywood movie without the epic "To God be The Glory" closing line?
