Edo Libya Returnees Bicker Over Deportation

PDP, Edo

Bureau Chief Benin – A Libya returnee, Matthew Ereyemwen has faulted the decision of the government to deport already established Nigerians living in Libya while thousands of others still languishing in various prisons over there.

Ereyemwen expressed his displeasure at the hotel where he was lodged in Benin City shortly after his deportation.

According to him, it would have been better for the government and its team to concentrate on how to evacuate Nigerians who are languishing in various prisons in Libya than bringing back those Nigerians who have already established themselves in that country.

He said those who are living comfortably in their various houses in Libya have taken over the chance of those who are in dire need of coming back to their country.

“I travelled to Libya and I knew what I passed through there. Our people are still suffering over there. They used to sell our TC, which is just like a visa.

“Those who are living in their living homes are not part of us. Those people that came back from Libya with luggage. We that came from prisons we do not have luggage but only shirts and trousers we are putting on,” he said.

Another returnee, James Itama alleged that he ought to have been brought earlier to Nigeria but his TC was sold out to another returnee by an official.

Reacting to the allegation, the South-West Zonal Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Suleiman Yakubu, said the Federal Government is working assiduously round the clock to ensure that all Nigerians living in Libya are brought back to their country whether in prisons or outside the prisons.
