By Adeboye Amosu: Kwara United head coach, John Obuh, is not losing sleep over his team’s failure to make it to the final of Bet9ja Nigeria National League Super Four competition, and is upbeat they can hold their own against Nigeria Professional Football League clubs when the new season gets underway, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kwara United who are back in the top flight after spending two years in the NNL lost 4-2 on penalties to Go-Round FC of Omoku in the opening fixture of the competition at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.
The Harmony Boys dominated the game, but were punished for their profligacy in front of goal.
Obuh is however unconcerned with the outcome of the game and is looking forward to a good season.
“We lost (against Go-Round) because we failed to convert our chances in the first half. There are a lot ofpositives from the game which we can be happy about even as we have some things to work on too,” Obuh tells Completesportsnigeria.com.
“It’s not a big deal if we don’t win the competition as the sole aim of the competition is to help all the teams prepare for the new season.
“For us, I believe we are ready for the new season and well prepared to flow with the big boys in the NPFL.”
The former Golden Eaglets coach is however disappointed with the format of the competition.
“I don’t understand why we have to play two games in the competition. I believe it’s not right. We would have love a situation where we play more games to prepare us for the new season,” Obuh adds.
“We have the opportunity of playing in a pre-season competition in Port Harcourt where we would have played more games but we opted to participate in the Super Four.
” In the future, it will be good to look at the format. May be a kind of a league format where all the teams play against each other to determine the winner. “
