Jubilee supporters angry at President Kenyatta for turning his back on former devolution CS
A section of Jubilee party supporters are angry at President Uhuru Kenyatta for allegedly turning his back on his former Devolution Cabinet Secretary(CS) who sacrificed a lot to support his re-election.
Details have emerged of how President Uhuru Kenyatta allegedly betrayed his trusted former Devolution CS.
Following yesterday’s announcement of a section of the cabinet in which Mwangi Kiunjuri’s slot as the Devolution CS was taken by Fred Matiangi, Laikipia residents have reacted in anger, exposing how the head of state allegedly betrayed Kiunjuri.
His supporters were quoted by a local daily stating that Kenyatta prevailed upon Kiunjuri to drop out of the Laikipia gubernatorial race so as to help him campaign.
Consequently, Kiunjuri dropped out of the race which was eventually won by Ndiritu Muriithi with his supporters maintaining that he would have won the seat given the massive support he enjoys in the county.
Herman Muchangi, a resident of Laikipia County confirmed that “It was the same President who convinced Mr Kiunjuri not to leave the Cabinet for elective seat so as to help him defend the presidential seat.”
However, even after shelving his political career, Kiunjuri had nothing to show for it with his name conspicuously missing from the list of CS nominees, leaving Laikipia residents disappointed.
Hannah Wanjira disclosed that they “were surprised as residents of Laikipia County that our son’s name did not appear in the names of those who were retained by the President in his cabinet”.
“We are urging the President to reconsider his decision and retain Mr Kiunjuri in his government,” she added.
“I am sure that Mr Kiunjuri could have won the seat due to his political influence in Laikipia County and the country as whole if the President could have allowed him to vie for the seat.
As residents of his home county we are therefore asking President Kenyatta to reconsider his decision and retain him to the government,” added another Laikipia resident Antony Ndegwa.
With a few more slots to go, it is not clear if the president will retain Kiunjuri who according to a resident of Laikipia “played a big role in making sure that the President was re-elected for a second term in office”.
