Improve your spiritual life by applying the following from the story of this Biblical character.
The Bible is filled with so many great, inspiring characters.
One of them is definitely Samson, a man born with powerful abilities whose life story is embedded with interesting lessons.
Here are three great lessons we can all learn from this powerful man’s walk with God.
We are born with a divine purpose
There are many who argue that we make our own path but Samson’s story knocks this outta the park.
From the beginning, we see a special gift was placed in the unborn son of Manoah and his wife, way before he was even born (see the book of Judges, chapters 13–16).
This is made evident with a visit from an angel, who directs the parents not to cut the child’s hair as it is the source of his strength. A supernatural strength put in Samson for him to eventually rescue Israel, God’s people, from the Philistines.
Just in case, this predestined purpose is not just for this powerful man.
This explains Paul’s words in Ephesians 5:15–17, which reads: “Be very careful, then, how you live,” Paul admonished, “– not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
Now, that we have seen what occurs before our birth, let's move right on to what happens next.
Godly purpose attracts opposition
After you are born with this divine calling, the next thing you need to know is that divine purpose does not mean smooth sailing.
Nope, it does not. As we all know, Samson’s life right to the moment of his death was filled with opposition.
At every turn, he faced antagonism from the Philistines, the woman he loved, Delilah and even sometimes himself.
For us Christians, we know that opposition is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the Bible encourages us to face them with pure joy (see James 1:2).
We are also told to expect it in John 15:20; “‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.”
You can only successfully deal with them by relying on your creator
Right about now, you may be feeling downcast, wondering why life has to be hard.
You can take comfort in the fact that you do not have to face any opposition by yourself.
During the final moments of Samson’s life, we see God come through for him in Judges 16:28–29.
It reads: “…Then Samson called to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, please remember me and please strengthen me just this time, O God, that I may at once be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.”
“Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and braced himself against them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.”
This supernatural display of strength took out more people than he had killed throughout his entire life. See what happens when God steps in?
If, by any chance, you are not convinced that you can rely on God, Matthew 28:18–20 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In simpler words, ‘go, dominate and conquer any opposition because I am with you every step of the way.’
Thanks to a command like this, we can boldly say, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
Samson’s story is proof that challenges are inevitable but we can relax because, like him, we are backed by someone who has “overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Samson comes to the big screen
This amazing story is being brought to life in the new feature film called “Samson.”
Fun Fact: The lead role is played by actor Taylor James, who had a divine “vision” years before he got the part. This led him to keep his hair and workout a lot.
During a recent episode of “Pure Talk”, he said: “I had a vision as an actor and a person a few years ago to grow my hair and to maintain a certain physical appearance. It was my guiding light.”
The movie started showing in theatres from February 16, 2018.
