Exclusive: The Origin Of Mercy Aigbe’s Two Year Feud With The AMVCA

For the second straight year, Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe was notably absent from the recently concluded Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards. Having had a successful year in spite of her marital issues in the year under review, fans looked forward to seeing her strut her stuff at the Eko Hotel venue.

Although she later apologised for missing the show due to ‘circumstances beyond her control’, fans insisted on knowing why she stayed away from the biggest movie and television event of the year.

She further explained thus:  ‘I am not going to pretend that I didn’t see all the comments, all the tags, all the plenty DMs. I feel so loved, I was stuck on set, filming the series ‘palaver’ directed by Desmond Elliot. It pained me sha, but the show had to go on, super proud of all the divas that graced the red carpet, they all looked magnificent. Congrats once again to all the winners and all the nominees. Next year is almost here, and by God’s grace, we all will live to witness it. Thank you all for the love.

However NET can exclusively reveal that the actress’ absence stems a two-year grudge she has nursed for the with the organisers of AMVCA as well as Thisday after she was left out of a best-dressed list published by the newspaper in 2016.

The list caused so much debate online that the actress herself publicly called out everyone involved in the publication and expressed her anger over being left out of the best-dressed list.

A source close to the actress’s camp told us ‘ Mercy is never going to attend AMVCA after what they did to her. It was glaring that she was the best dressed in 2016 but they decided to choose the Ibo Nollywood over her because of the glaring disparity between the Yoruba and Ibo Nollywood. She is done with that drama.’

This year, the actress missed the show once again, giving an explanation that she was held back on a movie set with Desmond Elliot. Her fans were quick to dismiss it as an excuse because Desmond Elliot who was being used as an excuse was present at the event.

Another close source told us ‘Mercy loves to go out  for weddings and events, we all know that if she truly wanted to be at the AMVCA’s, she would have prepared her dress a month or two weeks before the event, she just chose not to attend because she hasn’t forgiven the slight from two years’.

Fans are left hoping that she does win next year and all would be forgotten.
