GOVERNORSHIP aspirant on the platform of Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, has expressed confidence that he would win the party’s governorship primary holding at Oregun area of the state also move ahead to become the next Lagos governor, saying he would not have thrown himself into the race if he was not sure of victory.
This was just as he said that his party stood to reap some benefits from the fallout of primary held by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where former commissioner in the state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emerged as the party’s candidate, defeating the incumbent, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.
“I believe I will win and will not be running this race if I don’t believe that,” Agbaje said.
Agbaje is contesting the party ticket with a fellow party chieftain, Engnr. Adedeji Doherty.

Agbaje said this while speaking with newsmen in an interview at the venue of the party primary, where over 2,500 delegates were gathered to vote their choice.
The PDP chieftain, who was the party’s governorship candidate in 2015, expressed the belief that Nigeria as a country and Lagos can do a lot better than they were doing currently, adding that a lot of people looked at Lagos like it was the best thing in the world.
According to him, Lagos can be the best in Nigeria but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
“We have a much larger delegates population so managing a crowd of over 2,500 is not very easy. I believe our country can do a lot better than we are doing right now and I believe that Lagos State can even be better than it is.
“A lot of people look at Lagos like it is the best thing in the world, we can be the best in Nigeria but there is still a lot of room for improvement and I believe that we can make more giants strides,” he said.
Agbaje, however, said achieving this meant that leaders and the led must all give and must all ensure they practise what they preached, declaring that it must be about service, which required that one gives his best.
“When you tell the younger ones not to give up you must practise what you preach. It is not about giving up, it is about service and when we talk about the service you give in your best,” Agbaje.
Speaking further, Agbaje, while responding to a question, said the best way to address youth unemployment was for the government to improve quality education to meet up with the 21st Century standards.
“It is important to improve on the quality of our education in the state to meet up with the 21st Century. By the time we address education properly a man who collects salary can give a proper account of his income, he will have no fear about his children, health. These are some of the basic things that must be addressed,” he said.
