YENAGOA –Â Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has warned that activities towards the 2019 general elections may be charecterised by bloodshed and violence if desperate politicians are allowed to have their way.
He stated this during a special church service to mark the 7th edition of the state’s Annual Thanksgiving Day at the Ecumenical Centre, Igbogene, Yenagoa, at the weekend.
The event attracted eminent clergymen, including Archbishop Margaret Idahosa of the Church of God Mission International; Bishop Yomi Isijola, Logos Ministries International Church; Apostle Zilly Aggrey, Royal House of Grace and Pastor Paul Adefarasin, House on the Rock Church, who delivered the sermon, among others.
Dickson said politicians that believe in securing elective office through brigandage and killing should realise that “you donâ€t get political control because you are a deadlier killer.”
He warned against killings and violence during the political campaigns, especially in Bayelsa State, stressing that power only comes from God.
The governor urged unscrupulous elements planning to destabilise the hard-earned peace in the state, to desist from such acts.
He also called on the political class to focus more on stability, development, peace and security, rather than political violence, thuggry and instability.
Describing the celebration as an opportunity for Bayelsans to renew their covenant of blessings with God, the governor called on the people to cultivate the habit of thanksgiving to attract more blessings.
Dickson, who read the first Bible lesson from I Corinthians 15: 1-10, said that his administration was able to achieve so much because real men of God assembled to hand over the state to God after a solemn assembly.
He said that Bayelsa was the only state in the country with a policy declaring a public holiday to give quality thanksgiving to God.
He thanked the people for their continued support and prayers for his administration and empathised with victims of this year’s devastating flood, assuring them that government would continue to identify with them in their plight.
