A communiqué issued at the end of the State Council Congress at the weekend and signed by Daniel Atori, Chairman of Communique Committee, advised the state government to re-direct movements for all articulated vehicles plying the state to reduce damages.
Bad road networks in Niger State is getting worse by the day, the union said, and therefore, advised that the state government check the trend by re-routing movements of articulated vehicles passing through Minna, the state capital, to the by-pass.
Heavy duty vehicles, apart from shortening the lifespan of roads through undue wearing and tearing, cause unnecessary gridlocks within Minna metropolis, hence the need for the government to take action by diverting their movements to by-pass to also avoid accidents.
The communiqué also noted with concern the build-up to the 2019 general elections and, therefore, wants the state government to take proactive measures against all forms of possible security traits because, “Prevention is always better and less expensive than cure.
The Niger State NUJ said that politicians tend to overheat the polity in their campaigns, adding that this will not augur well for state. Therefore, the union urged transparency and sincerity in their campaigns towards next yearâ€s general elections to avoid chaos.
The state government should take proactive measures by encouraging security agencies to promptly monitor the entire state, particular some flash-points to check possible infiltration of extremist groups and putting them on watch list.
Chinwendu was removed as Correspondentâ€s Chapel Secretary and suspended by the former council executive over alleged, ‘anti-union†activities and she subsequently took the union to Court for want of evidence.
The intervention of some stakeholders who brokered peace and ensured successful out-of-court settlement and amicable resolution of the confusion generated by her suspension in the state NUJ and its affiliate, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
