SustyVibes to hold its first-ever photography exhibition

SustyVibes is holding the first-ever environmental photography exhibition featuring photographs from the beneficiaries for the 2017 Street Dreams Project.

The event will hold, with the theme “Women and the Environment”, at the African Artists’ Foundation in Victoria Island on December 8, 2018, and will display the works of eight beneficiaries of the first “Street Dreams Projectâ€ Cohort; a group of young girls from Port Harcourt who, with support from sponsors, recently completed a year-long photography programme.

The Street Dreams Project launched in 2017, a year after SustyVibes was established. The project was inspired by Maria Okese, a young woman whose tenacity inspired the team to bring her photography dreams to reality despite living with a disability. Since selecting the girls awarded the opportunity and equipping them with the necessary materials, they have been trained and mentored by renowned Nigerian photographers namely Fati Abubakar, Bayo Omoboriowo, Bernard Kalu and Grace Ekpu.

Established in 2016 by Jennifer Uchendu, SustyVibes and her growing community of environmentally and developmentally conscious individuals have developed and implemented strategies to spread the word of sustainability.

Asides the Susty Parties, we often hold film screenings, community campaigns, school visits and workshops centred around our 5 working pillars: Education for Sustainable Development, Combating Pollution, Women Development,
Pop Culture for sustainable living; Sustainable Businesses and The Green Economy. The Street Dreams projects covers all of these pillars.

Along with the exhibition, we will hold a panel with guest photographers discussing the role of photography and the arts in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing social issues. As well as an opportunity to win SDG-themed merchandise and buy SDG and SustyVibes merchandise.
