2019: Edo NPC Assembly Candidate Decries Marginalisation Of Women In Politics

Benin – The Nigeria People’s Congress (NPC) House of Assembly candidate for Edo State, Vivian Eweka, has decried the marginalization of women in Nigerian politics, noting that women have not been given the opportunity to express themselves.

She expressed her resentment while flagging off her political campaign in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.

Eweka said women had the capacity to govern the country and effect the needed change if given the chance but they had been relegated to the background in the nation’s political sphere, adding that she was in politics to set the pace for other women.

“Women are vibrant but we have not been given the room to really express ourselves. In my government, women will express themselves and they will see the glory of a woman, not just me, I am not going there for myself but for female folks, she said.

The party’s state chairman, Godfrey Ehimhen Ehizokhale, expressed confidence in the candidacy of the party’s flag-bearer, saying she had all that it takes to usher development in the community.

Commending the stance of the NPC candidate, the traditional ruler of the community, Owen Akenzua, represented by Friday Ahanuwa, said before now, he had seen aspirants coming into the community to solicit support into one political office or the other.

He pointed out that it was more pleasing and beneficial to the people of the area to have one of their daughters indicating interest to contest and represent her people at the state House of Assembly.

Akenzua assured the candidate of their support and enjoined inhabitants of the community to rally round her and give her the necessary support to succeed.
