THE need for Nigerians to keep up relations with one other irrespective of political or religious differences, as shown during the Ramadan period, was stressed by Governor Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, as Muslims marked this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

In particular, Makinde charged Muslims not to pick up to those deeds that they dropped in adherence to Allah’s demand for holiness during the month of Ramadan.

Makinde highlighted these imperatives when his deputy, Mr Rauf Olaniyan led other political officials and stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on a visit to his Ibadan residence after they had concluded their Eid prayers.

He commended the show of love, kindness, sharing and concern for humanity that characterized the holy month of Ramadan, noting that it would amount to an exercise in futility if such acts did not continue with the Ramadan season for this year now over.

Consequently, he urged Muslims to keep alive the spirit of self-denial, piety, Godliness that was their watchword over the course of the past one month.

“I wish all Muslims well and advice them not to go back to all the things that were dropped during the fasting period. We must keep up love, the spirit of sharing and our peaceful relations, regardless political affiliations that characterized the Ramadan period, Makinde said.

In his own Eid-el-Fitr message, Speaker of the state Assembly, Honourable Olagunju Ojo also admonished Muslims to uphold the lessons of Ramadan that include piety, sacrifice, almsgiving, fervent prayer, self-denial, love and good conduct.

With the curtains set to be drawn on the eight Assembly, Ojo beckoned on Muslims in the state to pray for the success of the Makinde administration.
