Ibadan – The lingering crisis rocking the Ibarapa Polytechnic (now Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic), Eruwa, Oyo state, has taken another dimension as the Chairman of the institutionâ€
s Governing Council, Dr. Samuel Ogundiran, alleged threat to his life by suspected hired assassins.
This followed an attack on the Acting Registrar of the Oyo state owned polytechnic, Mr. Samuel Obagunle, who is currently in a critical condition at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.
Daily independent gathered that crisis started in the institution when the Governing Council suspended the substantive management team led by Mr. Iyiola Ayitayo, after finding them guilty of gross misconducts.
Narrating his ordeal to journalists, Ogundiran, an Associate Professor of Educational Administration and Planing, said “I noticed a particular phone number was calling me which I refused to pick, when I later picked the call, the voice I heard was a voice of an old man, he called my name three times and started saying some incantations and cursing me.
“Immediately, I called the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, to informed him about the development, and I also informed the Area Commander of police in Eruwa.
“On Saturday morning, I saw the text message of the chairman of Eruwa elders in council, warning me not to pick any call because of security purpose, the Acting Rector, Mr Adejumo later called me and told me that the Acting Registrar, Samuel Obagunle, was attacked and beaten up, and he was currently in a critical condition, and has been rushed to UCH in Ibadan.
“The Acting Rector told me that the same assailant that called me was the one who called the Acting Registrar and took him to the outskirts of Eruwa, where he was beaten and injured, leaving him half dead on the road side before people saw him and took him to UCH�.
When contacted on phone on Sunday morning, the Commissioner of police,Oyo State, Shina Olukolu confirmed that the Governing Council chairman actually called to informed him about some strange things that was happening around the institution.
The Oyo state Commissioner of Police, however, added that if Ogundiran had such a fear and complain, he should put it into writing and forward it to the police for investigation and anybody found guilty shall be dealt with according to the law.
His words: “There is a dispute in the school according to him, but the governing council is there, and the owner of the institution which is the Oyo State government, is also there. So, this matter can be resolved through these procedure.�
