“At 50, you cannot afford to take it easy yet. Because if you take it easy at this age, the Church will collapse.”
The above charge was given by His Grace, the Most Revd Nicholas Okoh while delivering the sermon at a special service marking the Golden Age birthday of the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Anglican Communion on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Spurring the celebrant into more inspiring spirit-filled actions aimed at de-populating the devil’s fold to gain more souls to the Kingdom of God, Okoh insisted that the challenges associated with the responsibilities vested on a true Minister of God were too enormous to be handled with levity.
According to Okoh, a minister of God who is committed to success cannot begin to take life easy until he attains the age of 70.
Meanwhile, with apt allusions to Biblical texts, the preacher has assured of the continued presence of God and ever refreshing divine vigour with Olumakaiye in all his days in God’s vineyard.
Okoh, however, cautioned the “Birthday Bishop” to remain firm and fervent, avoiding sin, which, Okoh noted, drives God away from man.
” The same God that told Jeremiah not to fear and assured that He was ever with him is also ever there for you.
“In this Ministry, it is not over until it is over and it is only over when we are dead.
“The Lord has promised to be with you to the end of the world.
“So, you don’t need any further assurance so far you are not in sin because sin drives away God; otherwise, the presence of God is guaranteed at all times”. Okoh posited.
In his closing response, Olumakaiye promised to remain propelled for more committed work in God’s service with the energising tonic in Okoh’s sermon, even as the celebrant jovially warned that henceforth, nobody should advise him to take it easy again until he clocked the age of 70.
Among dignitaries that graced the birthday service were Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Lagos and Ondo States respectively.
