Politics: The debate over Trump's mental stability is reaching a fever pitch

Donald Trump.

The conversation over Trump's mental stability has reached a fever pitch recently as a new tell-all book on the White House paints him as unfit for office.

  • President Donald Trump's mental stability has become a hot topic amid the release of an explosive new book from author Michael Wolff.
  • The White House and Trump have sought to push back on the narrative.
  • But the conversation has dominated the news cycle over the past several days.

After months of toiling in the background, the conversation over President Donald Trump's mental stability has reached a fever pitch in recent days as a new tell-all book on the White House paints him as unfit for office.

In turn, Trump and his administration have waged war on the author and sought to dispel the notion that he is mentally unstable and unable to carry out the duties of his job.

Author Michael Wolff has continued to promote the new book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," continuing to take aim at Trump's mental capacity. While some elements of the book have come under a healthy dose of skepticism, Wolff had seemingly unprecedented access to the administration.

"You cannot listen to this man talk without at least contemplating the possibility that something is grievously amiss," Wolff told CNN on Monday. He said that administration officials bring up the 25th Amendment, which could be used to remove a president from office, "all the time."

The White House, in pushing back on Wolff, has called the book "complete fantasy" while Trump's personal attorney filed a cease-and-desist letter to the author and publisher. Trump took matters into his own hands this weekend, going off on Twitter about the discussion of his mental health.

Trump says he is 'like, really smart'

Claiming the conversation had become more prominent Democrats and the media had reached a wall on other issues, Trump said they were "taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence."

He followed up by saying that his "two greatest assets" in life are "mental stability and being, like, really smart," adding in a subsequent tweet that he believes he "would qualify not as smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!"

"I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President," he tweeted Sunday. "Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!"

Subsequently, reporters began asking some of Trump's congressional allies whether they believe the president is, in fact, a "genius."

"He's smart and capable at getting himself elected president," Republican Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas told CNN Monday.

Related contentRepublican Ron Johnson of Wisconsin also praised Trump but did not call him a genius. Republican Tim Scott of South Carolina refused to comment. Republican John Thune of South Dakota said Trump was "obviously" just responding to the book, but simply grinned when asked if Trump was a genius.

Republican Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama said "there are not many geniuses," adding that he thought Trump was "well and alert." Finally, Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana asked rhetorically "how many of us are geniuses in everything" when asked if he agreed that Trump was a genius.

"But he's got great kids," Cassidy added. "Everybody in this accepts that he's got great kids."

Earlier this year, some prominent Republicans had publicly questioned Trump's mental health. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee expressed ""concerns about [Trump's] leadership, and just his stability, and the lack of desire to be competent on issues and understand." Meanwhile, former Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, a former medical doctor, said Trump "has a personality disorder."

As The Washington Post wrote Monday, the administration is "struggling to contain the national discussion about President Trump’s mental acuity and fitness for the job, which has overshadowed the administration’s agenda for the past week." The publication reported that Trump "privately resents" the conversation on his mental stability, viewing it as "an invented fact" and "a joke."

'He's sharp as a tack'

But while The Post reported that the administration has "struggled" to counter the narrative, they have tried. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the publication in a statement that the administration is outraged and disgusted "that people who do not know this president or understand the true depth of his intellectual capabilities would be so filled with hate they would resort to something so far outside the realm of reality or decency."

Related contentNikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, sought to counter the narrative during a Sunday interview on ABC's "This Week," asking if Trump was "unstable" when he made a number of major decisions.

"As much as everyone wants to talk about stability, was he unstable when he passed the tax reform?" she asked. "Was he unstable when we finally hit back at Syria and said no more chemical weapons? Was he unstable when we finally put North Korea on notice? Was he unstable when he said, 'Wait, we need to look at Iran because this is getting to be a dangerous situation?' Was he unstable with the jobs or the economy or the stock market?"

Trump is set to have a physical on Friday — his first as president. Deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said Monday that the 71-year-old's checkup will not include any sort of mental health evaluation — something that only led to more questions on the subject.

"He's sharp as a tack," Gidley said. "He's a workhorse, and he demands his staff be the same way."

David Martosko, the Daily Mail US political editor who interviewed for a job in the Trump administration, questioned why he wouldn't receive such an evaluation.

"Wouldn't you expect something, even something cursory, during a checkup of any 71-year-old?" he tweeted.

Even if Trump were to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, the results could be withheld from the public if Trump did not consent to their release. And Trump would not be the first president to withhold information about his health from the public should something come up in such an evaluation.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously sought to hide the fact he was mostly confined to a wheelchair for the duration of his 12-year presidency. President John F. Kennedy hid his addiction to various painkillers. And President Ronald Reagan — noted by Trump over the weekend — worked to hide early signs of deterioration.

Pulse List: 5 ways to reject lecturers' sexual advances without offending them

5 ways to reject lecturers' sexual advances without offending them

These five polite tactics will help you discourage a lecturer from pestering you without offending him.

Sexual advances from lecturers to female students is not a cock and bull story in Nigerian universities.

It is a real issue many female students struggle to handle due to the tenacity with which some lecturers seek sexual favour from them.

Innocent students sometimes cry their heart out when such lecturers approach them with their amorous let-me-take-care-of-you proposal.

Many others mishandle the issue and get victimised by the lecturers for refusing to dignify them with a free sexual pleasure.

Sadly, there have been a lot of stories about lecturers taking pride in failing students because they turned down their sexual advances.

And there have also been stories of students coming out to tell stories of how a lecturer victimise them because they won't allow themselves to be reduced to sex slaves just to pass a course.

However, turning down a lecturer's perceived advances could have a backlash if it's not done politely.

Here are five polite ways you can discourage a lecturer from pestering you without offending him.

Polite but firm NO

Some lecturers will always find a way to get down with you by inviting you to their offices and always want you around. To discourage such lecturers, you just have to be polite and firm in saying NO each time he brings up the subject.

ALSO READ: 5 things lecturers do to lure students into sex

Be so firm that he can almost clearly see it on your face that you won't give in no matter how hard he tries. Give no unnecessary smile, or comment on his jokes, just keep a straight face that keeps saying NO politely.

Always postpone his appointment

The only comfortable place for most lecturers to establish an amorous contact with a student is their office. And before the conversation gets to point that you are invited to meet him in a hotel, you need to learn how to frustrate his desire with postponements.

Always postpone his appointment and arm yourself with cogent excuses for every disappointment.

Fake menstrual pain

The moment you sense your lecturer's reason for inviting you to his office is to sexually harass you, let your menstrual pain start immediately.

Let the fake pain flow to every part of your body. Let it the word PAIN be written all over you so clear that he won't argue let you go and attend to yourself.

Avoid and Ignore

If you've heard about a randy lecturer avoid him. Apart from academic-related matters, make sure nothing else brings you close to him. No needless complementary or comments about his appearance, just avoid him like you avoid carryovers.

However, if he finds you, try your best to ignore him like he doesn't exist. If he approaches you to let you realize your mistake, apologize and throw him into that part of your life where forgotten things are kept.

Tell him you're born again

Many students have used the I am born again line and has almost become a cliche. That does not mean you still can't use it to save yourself from the stronghold of a randy lecturer.

The female students, who claim to be the Scripture Union member don't usually get approached by randy lecturers because the scripture seems to be written all over them.

Firmly tell him you are born again and you cannot afford to walk into the sin of sex. Overwhelm him scriptural quotes to back your refusal.

While you use these tactics, be very very respectful and polite. Do not annoy him with your responses for randy lecturers only look for something to exchange with sex from their students.

LGBTQ: Kind Indian gay prince Singh Gohil, offers free shelter to underprivileged homosexuals

Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil.

Gohil's hospitality lies in an interest to encourage people of diverse sexuality to be confident enough to declare their status.

India's gay prince, Manvendra Singh Gohil, offered free shelter to some underprivileged homosexuals by welcoming them to his 15-acre palace.

In the year 2006, Gohil came out as gay, an action that received disapproval from his parents who reportedly disowned him. This has however not deterred him from pursuing agendas that will bring about a friendly environment for people of LGBTQ status.

The prince expressed to IBTimes his experiences which involved how realized that he was gay and his commitment regarding offering support to people like him.

"Around the age of 12 or 13, when I was undergoing sexual maturity, I thought I'm attracted to the same sex and not opposite.

"I knew there was something different about me, but I didn't know why I was feeling different to others. There was a conflict in myself that was different but at the time I didn't realise I was gay.

"If I could undergo these problems then any other gay person could face a similar situation.

"In India we have a family system and we are mentally conditioned to be with our parents. The moment you try to come out you are told you'll be thrown out and society will boycott you. You become a social outcast. A lot of people are financially dependent on their parents.

"I want to give people social and financial empowerment, so eventually people who want to come out won't be affected. They will have their own social security system. It won't make a difference if they are disinherited," Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil disclosed.

LGBTQ activism in Nigeria

In Nigeria's popular culture, the duo of UK-based Bisi Alimi, a gay rights activist and the 'Nigerian Barbie' Bobrisky, are the main attention.

They have been connected on numerous occasions to controversies related to their bid to get equal freedom for individuals who have unique sexual interests.

In 2017, Alimi criticized his countrymen over the hero's welcome given to homosexual CNN reporter, Richard Quest, who visited Nigeria at the time.

ALSO READ: Gay rights activist criticizes Nigerians for welcoming Richard Quest

In what he terms as hypocrisy, Alimi expressed displeasure over the incessant attacks on his personality. He wonders why such treatment was not directed at the English journalist.

Alimi, who got married in 2016 to his British lover, Anthony has taken any opportunity presented to him in lashing at those who have negative opinion about his sexuality.

Tech: I tried the science-backed 7-minute routine that was one of 2017's hottest workouts, and it actually works

Me doing the 7-Minute Workout in Business Insider's office.

Chris Jordan, the exercise physiologist who created the 7-minute workout, explains why it can help get your heart pumping and build muscle.

When I first heard about an app that promises the benefits of a sweaty bike ride or trip to the gym in seven minutes, I assumed it was all hype.

It isn't.

Designed by exercise physiologist Chris Jordan, the Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout gets your heart pumping and helps build muscle.

The app is a great introduction to a trendy type of fitness routine called interval training, and it's ideal for weekends or days when I can't make it to my regular yoga class.

Here's what it's like.

The entire workout really takes just seven minutes. I was initially skeptical about whether I could accomplish this much in such a narrow time frame.

The program consists of 72 exercises like jumping jacks, sit-ups, and push-ups. Ten require nothing but your body, and for others, you just need a chair that can support your weight. The latest version of the app lets you do each exercise along with Jordan.

To do my workout, I set up a yoga mat on the hardwood floor of my office and used a stool.

The first four exercises I did — 30 seconds each of jumping jacks, wall sits, push-ups, and crunches, with 10 seconds of rest in between — were easy.

But by the time I got to planks, I was starting to feel a bit winded. At this point, I'd also done step-ups onto a chair, squats, and tricep dips. Four more exercises to go.

Next came running in place while lifting my knees as high as I could, lunges, alternating push-ups and rotations (raising one arm in the air while balancing on the other), and side planks (aligning your body sideways and balancing on one hand and the side of one foot).

Full set of 12 exercises complete!

In the end, the workout was actually a workout. But I wasn't totally wiped, so I did a second set.

The concept behind the workout is called interval training — a term that refers to short, intense periods of exercise broken up by brief periods of rest. Jordan, who envisioned the regimen, told Business Insider that he based the workout on his experience as a fitness consultant for the US Air Force in Europe.

Sources: International Journal of Cardiology, ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal, Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine's Health & Fitness Journal

Studies suggest interval training may be more beneficial for building muscle and protecting the heart than some other forms of exercise. "High-intensity interval training can provide similar or greater benefits in less time than traditional longer, moderate-intensity workouts," Jordan said.

Sources: International Journal of Cardiology, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise

I'm satisfied overall with the 7-Minute Workout, and I've been doing it as an addition to my regular yoga routine every so often. But don't take my word for it — it doesn't take long to try it out yourself.

If I could press mute or pause on her sometimes I probably would, she has been on my case since I travelled back to Abuja. She is big on new year's resolutions and plans; something about streamlining your year to archive your years goals and how that's good for business.

"What are your goals for this year what do you want to achieve ?" She pressed on

If I worked for her? I swear I would have killed myself.

"I haven't thought about it" I said gesturing to the piece I’m trying to paint, hopefully she won't ignore the hint

"Okay, other than completing this piece what else do you want to achieve today" She asked

"Making you cum" I said hoping to get her off my case

"Consider it my new year gift" I added smirking

"Don't think you can get out of buying me a real gift" She said rolling her eyes

"I'll leave you to finish and go take a bath" She said finally standing up

She dusted her hands and headed out

"Make sure you achieve all your goals" She called out as she descended the stairs from my studio

Now I can concentrate on finishing my piece and meeting my deadline, it feels like the new year celebration was just yesterday, I just want a vacation.

After painting for an hour I was left with just the finishing touches, my shoulders felt cramped and pushing aside the thought of making Blessing cum was just exhausting. I stood up and stretched feeling the pain at my shoulders, I decided to just go downstairs and get a message from Blessing. I went downstairs to my room stopping by the kitchen to wash my paint smeared hands.

Blessing was laying on the bed wearing one of my t-shirt and only panty, she was playing a game on her tablet lying on her stomach. I came around to sit beside her as she paused her game before turning a bit to face me

"Give me a shoulder massage" I asked before she said anything

"Wow! Is that how you intend to make me cum" She said frowning

"No jo, my shoulders hurt, please" I said

"Pretty please" I added when she didn't smile

I made a face and she rolled her eyes

"Okay" She finally said reluctantly sitting up to kneel on the bed

I turned,my back to her. She placed both hands on my shoulder and began to knead gently and i relaxed into her, she pressed down on the spots that made me flinch before massaging the spot gently, she moved around my shoulders and sometimes lowering down to the shoulder blades.

She came back up and massaged my shoulders firmly, her hands slid down forward to the swell of my breast before moving back to my shoulders.

She continued like that till her fingers started hitting my nipples gently whenever she slid down. Her fingers gently hitting my nipples sent little shivers through my body; I could feel my nipples get hard. Her hands slided completely down cupping and squeezing my boobs.

I bent my back pushing my boobs into her hands, I felt her lean down before softly kissing my neck.

I heard myself purr as I tilted my head to expose more neck to her. She kissed my neck to my shoulder nibbling some points sending shivers through me, she shifted into me her hands moving all over my body. She sat down behind me and I turned my head towards her,our lips met her kiss intense and urgent, she pinched and pulled my nipples.

I could feel my panty drooling up with my juices, one of her hands slipped down urgently trying to get into my trouser. I reached down and unbutton my trouser letting her hand slip through and into my panty, she deepened her kiss as her fingers grazed my clit, she rubbed the slit of my pussy before slipping in her middle finger. I moaned into her mouth grinding gently on her finger, she added another one and started to move faster her other fingers grazing my folds.

I ground harder trying to match her movement, her fingers went crazy shoving in and out faster, I pulled away from the kiss moaning and grinding faster

"Oh fuckkkkk my close" I moaned out

She added another finger quickly pushing in and out of my dripping pussy faster, I clamped my legs around her fingers screaming out loudly as my orgasm quaked through me.

"Since I made you cum, you must make a bucket list for this year" I felt her smile against my neck

Finance: Bitcoin is not a legal tender in Nigeria – CBN

You now have the opportunity to use your cryptocurrency wallet for real trade.

Bitcoin is the most popular digital currency and has soar in value from 4 cents in 2010 to $19,000 by December 2017.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a warning to Nigerians that digital currencies are not legal tender in the country. This especially to those investing in them or accepting them as a medium of exchange.

Digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Ripples, Monero, Litecoin, Dogecoin, OneCoin e.t.c are reiterated as not backed by law in Nigeria.

It noted that any financial institution or business that transacts in such currency does so at its own risk.

Bitcoin and other digital currencies are developed to provide freedom from regulatory control, less cost of maintenance and ease of use for commercial transactions. But, there are concerns about their degree of safety as they are not backed by any assets.

In 2017, Nigeria’s financial market regulators – CBN, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), were increasingly enlightening people on the risks of cryptocurrencies. The CBN specially raised that virtual currencies are largely used in terrorism financing and money laundering.

“Virtual currencies are traded in exchange platforms that are unregulated, all over the world. Consumers may there lose their money without any legal redress in the event these exchangers collapse or close businesses. The attention of bank and other financial institutions is hereby drawn to the above risks and you are required to take the following actions pending substantive regulation or decision by the CBN,” said the CBN in a statement.

Of all digital currencies, Bitcoin is the best performing and with the highest value. Between 2010 and 2017, the digital coin appreciated from 4 cents to $19,000 by December 2017.

Racism: Germany train inspectors batter Nigerian man for allegedly not paying fare (Video)

A 48 year old man was assaulted by train inspectors in Berlin, Germany.

A Facebook user who captured the event on video termed the assault on the Nigerian man as racism.

In Munich, Germany, a footage showed a group of train inspectors molest a Nigerian man, for allegedly not paying his fare. They reportedly received a suspension from work following the action which the recorder, Natalija Miletic, described as "racist".

The video showed a 48-year-old African man being dragged violently by white men who work for the Deutsche Bahn. They seemed quite keen about getting him off the train.

"This is absolutely not okay, this, what you are doing.

"The guy didn't do anything to you guys. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is racist what you are doing.

"Why are you doing this? He paid!", Miletic was heard saying in the video.

As the clip continued, a person believed to be working at the transportation company tried to prevent her from recording what was happening.

She was heard resisting proclaiming her rights while addressing the obstructer.

The end of the file saw her reiterate an evil that has long plagued the black race for long. They have seen a history of being forced into slavery and have suffered an abuse based on their skin colour.

"This is racism! You are doing this to him because he is black!"

Natalija Mileti has received threats following the video which has spread all over social media. She shared an account of this in an interview with DW News.

Black people have suffered

Various stories of inhumane treatment have been the chief theme when it concerns the subject involving the freedom of the black race, a long history of slavery by European colonialists is an unforgettable proof.

In the year 2017, some Nigerians were among a group of Africans rescued from Libya in the most shocking world story during the period. It introduced a vibrant advocacy against racism and the discrimination of the black people.

The Libya returnees brought home tales of sexual abuse, torture, murder and slavery. The conversation about the event saw participation from world celebrities including those in Nigeria. Despite this, a bunch of Nigerians are still leaving the country and some have found death in the process.

In Indonesia, a Nigerian male citizen, Obinna, suffered a heart attack which led to his death while attempting to escape a raid carried out by immigration officers  in the country.

He reportedly sought shelter at the residence of a friend where he passed away while lying on a rocker. The Linda Ikeji's blog stated that the officials found him dead after forcefully breaking into the apartment where he was hiding.

Anambra Rerun: Corps members shun INEC ad hoc jobs

INEC announces live results in Anambra election

They complained that some of their colleagues who took part in the last exercise were still coming for their money after they had passed out and left Anambra.

Some Corps members released by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra to work as ad hoc poll staff in the proposed Jan. 13 Anambra Central Senatorial election have declined the offer.

Some of the corps members, who pleaded anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they are not interested due to the inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to pay their allowance during the Nov. 18 governorship election.

They complained that some of their colleagues who took part in the last exercise were still coming for their money after they had passed out and left Anambra.

Confirming the situation, Mr Ebenezer Olawale, the NYSC Coordinator in Anambra, said  only about 4,000 corps members out of about 7,600 shortlisted and released reported for INEC training for the Jan. 13 election duty.

Olawale noted that the NYSC would make available any number of corps members requested by INEC for its election duties but reiterated that participation was not compulsory.

“NYSC is prepared because they are already training our corps members

“INEC said they needed 7,627 Corps members and we have released as much as that for them, however, it is left for the corps members to accept.

“We are not compelling our corps members to do it, it not compulsory; it is a voluntary assignment.

“The last election, INEC promised to take care of them as much as possible but some of them complained that they were treated badly, that could discourage them from participating in this one.

“Some of them complained of not being paid their allowances for the last gubernatorial election.

“It may not be entirely INEC responsibility because some of them did not write their names and numbers correctly, and others did not have their data well recorded, some of them are still being treated now.

“I am told that out of the over 7,000 we released to them, only about 4,000 indicated interest and responded to their training,” he said.

Olawale explained that INEC should create a forum where all the affected corps members would be addressed and their fears allayed, instead of attending to them piece meal.

He urged corps members participating in election to remain neutral and unbiased as always and discharge their duties with all fairness to all.

Also speaking, Dr Nkwachkwu Orji, Resident Electoral Commission, INEC, in Anambra said that they have mobilised all the manpower needed for the exercise.

Orji, who acknowledged that some corps members have not been paid their allowance, attributed the problem to incomplete information provided by the corps members.

He dismissed the notion that the corps shunned the duty call because of nonpayment of allowance for previous assignment.

The REC said out of the 23,000 ad-hoc staff engaged in the Nov. 18 governorship election over 20,000 had been paid and promised to continue to address the complaints on nonpayment as they come.

“It is not true that they did not respond to our call because of nonpayment of allowance.

“When we conducted the training some of them were still in their villages enjoying Christmas and New Year; we have mobilised enough staff, this is just election in seven local government areas.

“The population that is yet to receive their allowance is quite few, we engaged about 23,000 and about 20,000 have been paid and we are still paying,” he said.
