Financial Tips: How to stop losing sleep over money worries

How to stop losing sleep over money worries

Worrying about your finances can affect other areas of your life if not worked on. Read these five tips to manage your finances better.

If money issues keep you awake all night you've got a serious financial problem that must be promptly addressed.

The most common reasons why most people lose their sleep over money is debt. However, being more mindful of your spending habits, setting boundaries, and staying disciplined can make a difference.

Here are five useful ways you can stop getting worried about money.

1. Create a budget

Creating a budget is one of the best ways to stop worrying about your finances and money issues. A budget allows you be in control of how you spend your money, knowing what is more important to spend on and curbing your excess spending.

2. Have a positive mindset towards your finances

Always have a positive mindset towards your finances. This helps to reduce financial stress.

Instead of always worrying about your financial issues, just have a positive mindset towards other aspects of your life while you work towards making your finances better.

3. Have an emergency fund

There are some things we don't bargain for in life that just happen, this is why it is very necessary to have an emergency fund. It is meant to serve as a soft landing when there is a financial shortfall during unexpected situations.

So, instead of plunging yourself into debt or selling your properties due to unexpected financial issues such as long-term illness and job loss, emergency savings helps you to take care of these and prevent you from being in debt.

4. Spend less

Spending more than you earn is one of the biggest financial blunders you can do to yourself. This habit exposes you to debt every time because you’ll have to rely on credit to cover the rest after lavishing your income.

So, to avoid going to friends, neighbours and colleagues every time to borrow money to pay bills and other financial obligations, just create a budget and stick to it.

5. Avoid debt

Avoiding debt in all its forms is one of the best ways to avoid financial anxiety because debt is a potential source of financial anxiety.  It can prevent you from attaining your personal financial goals.

So instead of borrowing, just avoid any expenses that may require you to borrow money. If you stick to your budget and save enough, you'll purchase your dream car or house without taking loans or borrowing.

Chris Ngige: Minister says Buhari is healthier than 80% of Nigerians

Buhari is healthier that 80% of Nigerians - Chris Ngige

Nigige also said that Nigerians should count themselves blessed to have a leader like Buhari.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has said that President Buhari is healthier that 80 percent of Nigerians.

The minister said this while speaking to newsmen in Anambra state.

Ngige said the President is physically and mentally fit, adding that older people make better leaders.

The minister told the journalists that Nigerians should count themselves blessed to have a leader like Buhari.

Daily Post reports that he said  “That man (Buhari) you see there is healthier than 80 percent of Nigerians.

“I’m a medical doctor, I can tell you authoritatively that he is healthier than most people who see his health as an issue.

“He sits for over eight hours during our executive meetings. While some of us would be going for tea break to stretch our legs, Mr President would sit on his seat continuously, drinking only water.

“I can tell you authoritatively as a medical doctor of over three decades standing that Mr President is physically and mentally healthy. He is healthier than eighty percent of Nigerians.

Speaking on allegations that Buhari’s administration is marginalising Igbos, Ngige said “There’s nothing that is being shared by the Buhari government that is not equitably done. Buhari has five flagship projects; Lagos-Ibadan to Ilorin Mambila Power Plants; Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway; Second Niger Bridge and East West roads.

“You can see how it was shared. So, how are you(Igbo) left out, why are you crying marginalization, why are you crying wolf when there is none and it is this mentality that I’m telling you people that you have to come out from.

“So, all I’m saying in effect is that you(Igbo) must do political engineering; that’s the Igbos of the South East and the step to take forward is to support a Buhari presidency for 2019/2023 and vote for it with all their strengths.

“By so doing, they will not be left out in the power sharing that will come thereafter like was done at this period.

Strategy: When the dean of Harvard Business School meets someone who wants to go to HBS, he asks them a simple question

Hint: It's not, "How are your grades?"

Harvard Business School dean Nitin Nohria says he looks for candidates who have displayed leadership potential — even more than candidates who have stellar grades.

  • Harvard Business School dean Nitin Nohria said he looks for candidates who have displayed leadership potential.
  • Whenever someone says they'd like to attend HBS, Nohria told Business Insider, he asks them to consider one question: "What is it that other people would say that would describe you as a leader?"
  • That could be through college extracurricular activities, military service, or running a business.
  • Candidates' leadership skills are more likely to tip the scales in their favor than stellar grades, Nohria said.

If you're thinking about applying to Harvard Business School, know that your academic achievements — however impressive — aren't going to be the deciding factor in whether you get in.

To be sure, grades are important, but there's something else even more so.

That's according to HBS dean Nitin Nohria. Whenever someone says they'd like to attend HBS, Nohria told Business Insider, he asks them to consider one question:

"What is it that other people would say that would describe you as a leader?"

Nohria said HBS wants to help candidates explain "in what ways they have already exercised leadership and how they hope to exercise leadership in the future."

Somewhat frustratingly, Nohria added that there's no single type of answer that will win over the admissions staff. "We will take people who have very different passions," he said.

Indeed, the HBS admissions website indicates that candidates may display leadership through, for example, military service, "running an independent business," or "spearheading initiatives at work."

Stacy Blackman, the founder of Stacy Blackman Consulting who helps clients earn admission to top MBA programs, previously told Business Insider that candidates need to prove that they made a difference with their leadership efforts. Or, as she put it, "that you left indelible footprints."

Nohria breaks down leadership into two components — competence and character — and he said HBS students learn to develop both.

Competence is about getting people to trust you and your decisions: "It's not like you can call yourself a leader just because you have an important position," he said. Character is about your values, and your ability to make ethical decisions.

Ultimately, HBS doesn't want students to be carbon copies of one another, especially in terms of their leadership experience.

"We are excited about leaders of all kinds," Nohria said. "They just need to be people who are pursuing a particular passion in which they are likely to be very good leaders."

Strategy: When the dean of Harvard Business School meets someone who wants to go to HBS, he asks them a simple question

World leaders love Buhari because he is providing good leadership – Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed said this on Sunday, September2, 2018, during an interview on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that world leaders love President Buhari because he is providing good leadership.

According to Vanguard, the minister said this on Sunday, September2, 2018, during an interview on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

Mohammed also said that leaders all around the world are giving Nigeria attention because of the President’s incorruptible leadership.

He said “Last week we received British Prime Minister, Theresa May. During the visit, several bilateral agreements were signed.

“Friday of same week, we received German Chancellor, Angela Merkel. Several bilateral agreements were also signed.

“The global leaders are coming to Nigeria because this government is providing good leadership in the areas of security and infrastructure.

“The perception globally about the government is that it is providing an incorruptible leadership, a government that you can do business with, without fear.

“In one year alone, we climbed 24 steps in the ladder of ease of doing business.

“These are all the things they have seen that are attracting them to come to partner and invest.

He noted that the three cardinal goals driving the Buhari’s administration’s success were, “focus, discipline and integrity

“We did not invent the Treasury Single Account (TSA), but we are the administration that is disciplined enough to ensure that all proceeds of government go into the TSA.

“This has helped a lot. Before now, funds belonging to the government were in thousands of bank accounts and the result was that we were paying a lot of bank charges on the accounts.

“Under the old system, the government could not have a wholistic idea of how much fund it had, which hampered planning.

“Today, every penny of government is being paid into TSA. This has helped a lot.

On Saturday, September 1, 2018, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that world leaders are queueing to meet President Buhari.

Shehu also said the development shows that leaders all around the world like the President.

While his international teammates are on their way to camp, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is relaxing somewhere on a yacht with his partner Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo has been left off international duties with Portugal who will face Croatia in a friendly and Italy in a Nations League clash during the international break.

The 33-year-old has instead chosen to spend some time with his partner Rodriguez during the international break.

The sun-kissed couple is seen in an Instagram post cuddling up to each other as they relax on the yacht.

“How nice to feel a warm hug when you're cold #TeAmo @cristiano, Rodriguez wrote on her Instagram alongside the photo.

Difficult start

Spending time with his partner could also help Ronaldo take his mind off his difficult star at Juventus where he has failed to score in his three competitive appearances for the Serie A giants.

Since joining Juventus in a £100m switch from Real Madrid, Ronaldo has failed to score despite having 23 shots on goal.
