Osun poll: Aregbesola reacts to PDP leaders protest

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor State of Osun.

Osun state Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Friday, condemned the protest by leaders and members of opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, over the outcome of the Osun gubernatorial election.

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, and the national chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus led a protest to the headquarter of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

The party leaders demanded the cancellation of the just concluded Osun State governorship election.

Aregbesola, who visited the presidential villa to introduce the Osun governor elect Gboyega Oyetola to President Muhammadu Buhari, told journalists that the opposition party’s protest is nothing but a charade and act of irresponsibility.

“It is a charade and an act of gross irresponsibility. After an election, the only option left for any responsible citizen is to go to the tribunal,” Aregbesola said.

“If you are already in court and you are still doing a street protest, it is either you are not mentally stable or you need psychiatric attention,” he added.

Aregbesola further stated that he has no idea what the protest is meant to do and the party should seek tribunal instead of protesting.

eLDee: "I'm sick and tired of people sliding in my DM, begging for money"- rapper cries out

Eldee

eLDee isn't one of those celebrities who love to trend just for its sakes so when he cries out over a bothering issue then we've got to be worried.

Hmmm…it appears this has become a trend where certain fans and followers slide into DMs of celebs to beg for money as the latest victim, eLDee is sick and tired of it.

Going by the posts the rapper posted on his Instagram stories on Friday, October 5, 2018, it is obvious that he is fed up with the unending and irritating messages he has been receiving in his DM.

"I'm sick and tired of people sliding into my DM to beg for money. I barely have enough for me and my girls and I sure don't have money trees growing in my yard," he wrote. It didn't end there as he went to reveal that for every time he gives out money, he is depriving his family the things they need.

"You need to know that every time i give you money, I am depriving myself and my family of the present and future convenience. I lv to give but I love my daughters more than I love you. The most sacrifice I'm willing to make right now is to teach you how to get money by yourself. We all have the same 24 hours.

"Sad truth is that most people who beg aren't willing to put in the necessary work to get out of their situation. Begging is the laziest of your options. You have limbs and a brain. You don't have to be smart to have a job. Of course, the response is always "I can't find a job" but the truth is you can, you just think you're too cool for what's available to you. You'd rather try to shame me than paying your way through life," he said.

The last time we got to see a  celebrity rant on Instagram over online beggars was when Annie Idibia shared her own story. According to her, the constant plea for financial assistance from these people was beginning to piss her.

"Stop begging me for money, it is beginning to piss me" – Annie Idibia warns

Annie Idibia sent a warning to those fans and followers who keep begging her for money on social media earlier in the year, stating that it is beginning to piss her off. The actress made this known on her Instagram stories on Thursday, August 16, 2018. According to her, in a series of post on her Instagram stories, she said she also has her own issues and struggles and is fed up with followers sending her messages asking for financial assistance.

"Please, I beg you stop asking me for money! It is beginning to really piss me off…n, worse are the people who constantly insult me if I don't respond or say I don't have.

"This is to every single person sending me account numbers, begging for money every sec of the day!!! Me sef I be human being oooo!!! I have my own issues and struggles!!! We are all fighting the same battle ooo I have my own issues and problems," she said.

Stella Damasus says people would rather beg online than actually work

Stella Damasus has come for online beggars who would rather beg than even make an effort to work. The actress made this known on her Instagram page on Monday, July 2, 2018. According to Stella, a lot of people would rather beg online than actually work and when questioned, they get angry and end up calling out the celebrity.

"Like many others, I receive direct messages from young people asking me to help them out with their problems. They need money to pay for one thing or the other. 90% of the time it's nothing medical or life-threatening, just money to pay rent or one course in school. I take time to read through their stories and help as many as I can but trust and believe that my contribution may not solve the problem totally. I try to follow up with these people and I find that they always end up in the same place (broke).

So I started asking them to learn a trade, use their talent, get mentors, learn from YouTube. If these people have enough data to come and ask for money on social media then they would definitely have enough to learn something from YouTube or other free webinars. The moment I start to ask them to learn something I become an enemy. Then I get messages like "if you don't want to help me just say it. We, your fans have made you into a star but you can't help us with your money". It used to upset me but then I had to understand that the heart of a hungry person can lead to verbal diarrhea," she said.

APC Primary: Former Deputy Governor picks Plateau South Senatorial ticket

APC to conduct Niger Senatorial primaries on October 5

Longjan scored 972 votes to beat four other contestants including Dame Pauline Tallen for the ticket, at the party’s primary election held in Shendam.

Mr Ignatius Longjan, former Deputy Governor to Ex-Gov. Jonah Jang, on Friday, picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the Plateau South Senatorial seat in 2019 general elections.

Longjan scored 972 votes to beat four other contestants including Dame Pauline Tallen for the ticket, at the party’s primary election held in Shendam.

Longjan is seeking to replace Sen. Jeremiah Useni of the PDP, who has picked the ticket for the Governorship seat at the party’s primary held on Sept. 30.

Detail of the results as announced by the electoral officer, Mr Abu Isa, showed that Nanven Nimfel came second with 786 votes, while Jibrin Banchir, Pauline Tallen and Stephen Dashe Te,el scored 41, 9 and 5 votes respectively.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that though, the primary was peaceful, but full of tension, as it took the Isa led electoral committee two days to successfully conduct and declare the results.

Isa, the former Speaker of Taraba House of Assembly, however, described the primary as very transparent, peaceful, free and fair.

While declaring Longjan as the winner, he thanked the delegates and party officials for making the primary a huge success.

In his acceptance speech, Longjan, accepted his nomination by the party delegates and thanked them for finding him worthy enough to represent them at the National Assembly.

“By the grace of God, I shall not betray the trust and confidence reposed on me. I will do all my best to give my constituency a qualitative and purposeful representation at the senate if eventually elected,’’ he said.

Longjan, however, called on other aspirants, who contested along with him to join hands with him in ensuring that he came victorious in 2019 general elections.

Netanyahu undergoes new graft questioning

NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 27: Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel applauds U.S. President Donald Trump during a speech at the United Nations during the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2018 in New York City. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent a new round of questioning on Friday over one of several graft cases that have threatened to topple him, Israeli media reported.

The veteran premier’s 12th round of questioning as a suspect in various cases comes two days before his wife Sara appears in court on charges of misusing state funds for catering at their official residence.

Netanyahu has not been charged in any of the cases and a spokesman on Friday reasserted the prime minister’s innocence.

The prime minister has been repeatedly questioned over allegations involving Israeli telecoms giant Bezeq and its largest shareholder, Shaul Elovitch.

Netanyahu is accused of seeking favourable coverage from another Elovitch company, the Walla news site, in exchange for policies that could have benefited the mogul’s interests to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

He also faces interrogation as a witness in a case involving the purchase of three German submarines.

Israeli television on Friday showed footage of police officers arriving at his office.

Police confirmed the premier had been questioned for a number of hours, without giving further details.

Allegations over luxury gifts
Israeli media reported that Friday’s questioning will for the first time cover two further cases in which he is suspected of corruption, fraud and breach of trust.

In one, he and family members are suspected of receiving around 1 million shekels ($275,000) worth of luxury cigars, bottles of champagne and jewellery in exchange for financial or personal favours.

In the second, he is suspected of seeking a deal for positive coverage from Israel’s top-selling daily newspaper, Yediot Aharonot, in exchange for advancing a law that would have limited the circulation of Israel Hayom, a free competitor.

A spokesman for Netanyahu rejected the accusations: “It is now definitively clear that in the investigations against the prime minister, there is no meat on the bone, and that there is not even any bone at all.”

“The prime minister has responded with confidence to the questions which have been posed to him, knowing that there was nothing and therefore there will be nothing” to come out of the investigations, the spokesman added in a statement.

Netanyahu’s wife Sara is due to appear in court on Sunday charged with misusing state funds to buy catered meals costing $100,000 (85,000 euros) by falsely declaring there were no cooks available at the premier’s official residence.

Prime minister for around 12 years in total and with no rival in sight, Netanyahu has maintained his innocence in all the cases.

But the investigations have gradually ratcheted up speculation over whether he will eventually be forced from office.

So far his coalition partners have stood by him despite the allegations. He is not obliged to step down as prime minister even if he is formally charged.

‘Hustle’ on Africa Magic will return for a third season with Seun Ajayi and BBN star Tobi Bakre

The first season of the Africa Magic dramedy Hustle premiered in 2016, and introduced us to a world of characters navigating through Lagos and trying to make it. The series stars one of the industry’s underrated actors Seun Ajayi, who can now boast of the show in his television portfolio. Ajayi plays lead character Dapo Olanipekun who, in the first season, moved to Jos from Lagos in search of opportunities. Importantly, though, he wishes to step out from the shadow of his elder brother for whom his parents love more because of his success.

The theme of hustling until you make it is what makes Hustle so resonant, aided by the perspectives of other characters like Acid, Mr Benson, Mama Sekinat, Rasak, Uzo and Cindy with the unmistakable British accent. “The show which continues to be a favourite for comedy lovers is back with some new faces and more interesting hustle adventures in the city of Lagos, a media representative of Africa Magic said in a statement.

On new faces, Big Brother Naija alum Tobi Bakre makes his acting debut on the show and while his character profile has been kept as a secret, others cast members like Sola Sobowale, Maurice Sam, Uzor Osimkpa will be reprising their roles. The new season premieres on Monday, October 8 on Africa Magic at 6:30pm.
