Palestinian kills two Israelis in West Bank shooting: army

Israeli security forces gather at the site of a reported attack at the Barkan Industrial Park near the Israeli settlement of Ariel in the occupied West Bank on October 7, 2018. A shooting attack by a Palestinian at an industrial zone for a West Bank settlement on Sunday killed two Israelis and wounded another, the army said.Jack GUEZ / AFP

A Palestinian shot dead two Israelis and wounded another at a West Bank settlement’s industrial zone on Sunday, sparking a manhunt for the suspect who worked at the site, the army said.

Since the attack was allegedly carried out by a Palestinian employed at the Barkan industrial zone in the occupied West Bank, questions were raised over whether he knew the victims and over the motivation behind the shooting.

Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus called it a “terrorist attack” but added that other unspecified factors were involved. The 23-year-old Palestinian used a homemade gun, known locally as a “Carlo”, according to Conricus, in the apparent “lone-wolf attack”.

Security forces were searching for the suspected perpetrator, he added.

Surveillance footage spread online that appeared to show the Palestinian fleeing the site with a gun.

Magen David Adom emergency medical services said their medics had entered a building at Barkan and found a man and woman dead.

They were identified by Israeli media as Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, a 28-year-old from the Israeli town of Rosh Haayin near Tel Aviv, and Ziv Hagbi, 35, from Rishon Lezion, also near Tel Aviv.

“Later we found another injured woman hiding under a table with gunshot wounds in her upper body,” said paramedic Tomer Fine, who was the first responder at the site.

The woman, 54, was taken to hospital, where her condition was stabilised.

Speaking at Israel’s weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the shooting “a very severe terror attack” and said he was certain the perpetrator would be caught.

Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs the Gaza Strip, welcomed the attack and called it a “natural response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation.”

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group issued a similar statement.

‘Together and crying’
The industrial zone is located next to the Israeli settlement Barkan and near the settlement of Ariel in the north of the West Bank.

Palestinians work side by side with Israelis in the industrial zone.

Palestinians often face tough choices in finding employment in the economically struggling West Bank and jobs in Israeli settlements can provide steady income.

Israelis have portrayed the industrial zone as a symbol of coexistence, though it is located entirely in the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967.

Speaking at Barkan, Yossi Dagan, head of a regional council for Israeli settlements in the area, said there were “Jewish and Palestinian workers standing outside together and crying”.

Some Israeli media reported the Palestinian suspect had been recently fired from his job at the site, raising speculation the attack may have been motivated by a personal vendetta.

The army, however, said the alleged shooter was still employed at the site as of Sunday, but noted he had been away from work in recent days.

The attack took place at the Barkan depot of the Alon Group, which manufactures recycling and environmental products, according to Eran Bodankin, a manager at the site.

Speaking with Channel 10 television, Bodankin said the suspect had entered the offices to fix an electrical problem, only to open fire at a secretary and senior manager sitting nearby.A wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis broke out in 2015, but they have since become sporadic.

Last month, a Palestinian teenager stabbed an Israeli to death at a junction at the entrance to a large bloc of Israeli settlements in the West Bank near Jerusalem.A number of attacks have occurred at that location, the Gush Etzion Junction.

Israel settlements are considered illegal under international law and major stumbling blocks to peace as they are built on land the Palestinians see as part of their future state.Israeli leaders blame Palestinian violence, “incitement” and intransigence for the lack of progress in peace efforts.

In Rivers State: UPTH staff reportedly arrested removing eyes 18-mth-old baby

Policeman's stray bullet reportedly kills innocent birthday boy

A father returns to a hospital two weeks after the death of his baby and found out that its eyes had been removed. Four mortuary attendants have been arrested for questioning.

In Rivers State, the police have arrested the staff of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) while investigating the mutilation of an 18-month-old baby.

The infant reportedly died at the hospital on Friday, August 3, 2018, following a struggle with anaemia.

Two weeks after it died, Mr. Sunday Ede, the father of the deceased had returned to settle the mortuary bill at the hospital when he noticed that the corpse of his child had been tampered with.

According to The Sun News, none of the officials who attended to him were able to provide information to explain the heartbreaking discovery.

Ede alleged in a report that one of the nurses had earlier offered him N30,000 to have the baby buried at an unknown location. This was prior to its death on August 3.

“Even while the baby was still breathing, one of the nurses had approached me and asked me to pay N30,000 to have the baby buried somewhere. That got me annoyed.

"From that moment, they became nonchalant, claiming they were waiting for the blood test until the child died.

“I went to the mortuary on September 17 to pay the bill and retrieve the corpse. I had N20, 000 with me. But after taking the money, the attendant informed me my total bill was N56, 000.

"I requested to see the corpse of my baby. But to my surprise, when he brought out the baby’s corpse, the two eyes had been removed.

“I had called my wife on phone and relayed the news to her. I broke down and wept. I was so angry I wanted to fight the mortuary attendants. Eventually, I abandoned the corpse to them.

The police commissioner of Rivers State Ahmed Zaki has confirmed receiving a petition from the father of the deceased.

Sports: The best value plays in your DraftKings lineup for Week 5 of the NFL season

T.J. Yeldon, Josh Rosen, and Jordy Nelson are some of our best picks to play worth more than their DraftKings salaries this week.

T.J. Yeldon, Josh Rosen, and Jordy Nelson are some of our best picks to play worth more than their DraftKings salaries this week.

Fantasy football is a tough game.

There's always good weeks and bad weeks, but when your players aren't producing, the second-guessing starts almost immediately.

Last week was a rough one for our DraftKings value picks. Aside from Calvin Ridley, who continues to tear through opposing defenses like he seeks desperate medical attention that can only be found in the end zone, we picked a few performances that were honestly underwhelming.

But the great thing about daily fantasy is that every week you get a brand new start, so this week, we're back at it yet again.

Take a look below for our picks at every position that looks set to outplay their pricing this week in DraftKings. They'll come in handy for when you've constructed the perfect lineup only to find that you don't have quite as much money left for your flex as you expected.

QB: Josh Rosen, $4,700

The 49ers are giving up almost 25 points per game in DraftKings scoring so far this season. Josh Rosen might be a rookie, but he looked solid enough in his first outing and should have a bit more room to throw this week against the San Francisco defense.

RB: T.J. Yeldon, $5,600

With Leonard Fournette still nursing a hamstring injury, T.J. Yeldon should be the featured back for the Jaguars in their trip to Kansas City. Expect Jacksonville to want to establish the run on the road.

RB: Mike Davis, $3,500

With his astonishing 31.4-point performance last weekend, taking Mike Davis again might be asking for lightning to strike twice, but he's likely Seattle's best option at running back. While the Seahawks rushing attack won't have the success, they had last week against the Rams fearsome defensive front, at this price Davis is still a decent flyer.

WR: Calvin Ridley, $5,800

He's getting more expensive week after week, but against a Steelers defense that has given up 29 points per game so far this season, it's impossible to sit Calvin Ridley in the middle of his impressive streak. Keep riding the hot hand.

WR: Doug Baldwin, $5,000

Doug Baldwin was a bit underwhelming in his first game of the season for the Seahawks on Sunday, but at $5,000, it feels like you'll never find him cheaper this season, and he could be in a great position for a couple of garbage-time scores should Seattle get down big early to the Rams.

WR: Jordy Nelson, $4,500

Jordy Nelson will be a boom-or-bust player throughout the season, but this week feels like it has some boom potential. Nelson got in the end zone last weekend as the Raiders' offense appeared to find its collective rhythm, and a trip to the Chargers in Los Angeles will likely play as another home game for Oakland.

TE: Tyler Kroft, $2,900

After Tyler Eifert's horrific injury, Cincinnati has once again called on Tyler Kroft to step into the starting tight end role. He should be comfortable there — in a similar situation last season, Kroft scored seven touchdowns in his time filling in for Eifert for the year.

DEF: Eagles, $2,600

The Eagles gave up 16 points to the Colts in their last home game, and it was the most scoring they've allowed at Lincoln Financial Field since Week 9 of 2017. Philadelphia's defensive backs might still need some work, but the Birds seem to always find a way to shut opponents down at home.

Now check out how the experts ranked the top 50 players in fantasy football for the rest of the 2018 season.

Lacazette, Ramsey star as rampant Arsenal make it nine in a row

Arsenal's Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey celebrates with teammtes after scoring the team's third goal during the English Premier League football match between Fulham and Arsenal at Craven Cottage in London on October 7, 2018. Adrian DENNIS / AFP

Arsenal swaggered to a ninth successive win as Alexandre Lacazette’s double and a goal of the season contender from Aaron Ramsey inspired a 5-1 rout of Fulham on Sunday.

Unai Emery’s side turned on the style on the banks of the River Thames, recording their biggest win of the season as the resurgent Gunners moved into the Premier League’s top four.

Lacazette was at the centre of Arsenal’s powerful show at Craven Cottage, with his superb second-half strike restoring their lead after Andre Schurrle had cancelled out his opener.Ramsey’s audacious back-heeled goal put Arsenal in complete control to cap a stunning move that recalled the club’s finest days under Emery’s predecessor Arsene Wenger.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice in the closing stages as Arsenal won six consecutive league matches within a single campaign for the first time since 2016.

They have also recorded three consecutive away league victories for the first time in two years.

Emery was expected to need a long period to revive Arsenal after the depressing final years of the Wenger era.

But the north Londoners are quickly rediscovering their verve and struggling Fulham had no answer to their enterprising display.

Arsenal were battling fatigue after touching down in London in the early hours of Friday morning following a 4,000km flight from Azerbaijan, where they beat Qarabag 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday.

But Emery freshened up his side with six changes, although one was enforced as Mesut Ozil was sidelined due to a back spasm, and there were no signs of fatigue as they took the lead in the 29th minute.

Alex Iwobi was the catalyst with a clever pass to Nacho Monreal.

Monreal clipped his cross into Lacazette and the French striker left Tim Ream flat-footed with a nimble turn and close-range strike for his fourth goal of the season.

Fulham are the only side in the Premier League yet to keep a clean sheet this season and it was easy to see why as Arsenal carved holes in the hosts’ creaky five-man defence.

Arsenal were close to a second goal as they again exploited the space behind wing-back Cyrus Christie, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s effort well saved by Marcus Bettinelli.

Inspired move
Fulham hit back against the run of play in the 44th minute.

Unhinged by Monreal’s wasteful pass, Arsenal were out of position as Luciano Vietto slipped a pin-point pass to Schurrle, who caught Rob Holding ball-watching as he sprinted through to chip a fine finish over Bernd Leno for his third goal this season.

Undeterred, Arsenal stepped on the gas after the interval and Lacazette restored their lead in the 49th minute.

Danny Welbeck headed onto Lacazette and he took Bettinelli by surprise with a powerful 20-yard drive that flashed past the newly called-up England keeper.

Aubameyang and Ramsey had both been left on the bench, but Emery introduced them for the final half hour in a bid to kill off Fulham.

It proved an inspired move as Ramsey sealed the points with a majestic finish in the 67th minute.

A flowing attack saw Hector Bellerin and Ramsey combined in a blur of flicks and delicate touches in midfield before the ball was worked wide to Aubameyang.

Aubameyang whipped over a low cross that was slightly behind Ramsey, prompting a superb adjustment from the Wales midfielder as he guided a back-flicked shot into the far corner.

Aubameyang put the seal on Arsenal’s stroll in the autumn sunshine in the 79th minute, deftly converting Bellerin’s cross.

The Gabon striker wasn’t finished yet and, in the last minute, he smashed in Ramsey’s pass for his sixth goal of the season. No wonder jubilant Gunners crammed into one corner of Craven Cottage celebrated the goal with chants of “We’ve got our Arsenal back”.
