Toke Makinwa says dating beyond 3 years is a waste of time

Toke Makinwa talks on time of dating before marriage.

Anything after two and a half or three years, tops, is way too much, she adds.

How long should you be in a relationship for before getting tired of your partner's indecision concerning walking down the aisle?

For some, the decision to tie the knot is not as important as the strong relationship and connection being created while the relationship/courtship is ongoing. For this set of people, it does not necessarily matter that the relationship has been ongoing for a long time, being together, living their best life and staying true to each is enough. Wedding and a marriage will come somewhere down the line. No qualms.

Vlogger, Toke Makinwa does not subscribe to this opinion and that is what she talks about in the most recent video posted on her Yotube channel.

ALSO READ: The joys and joys of dating a guy who says no to premarital sex

Toke says any relationship that should transform into a marriage should not last beyond two and a half years, and at most, three years.

Citing P Diddy and Cassie who broke up after dating for 11 years as example, Toke explains the inappropriateness of dating for too long without walking down the aisle at some point. She says three years is enough time to know all there is to know about someone, and with that knowledge, people should already know whether they want to be with that partner forever or not.

Refusing to make up your mind after this is simply "taking the piss"  she says.

Check the clip above to hear Toke address the issue.

Syria Complains To UN About US Airstrikes

Syria’s Foreign Ministry is complaining to the U.N. about airstrikes carried out by the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State group citing new mass graves discovered.

The ministry called on the U.N. secretary-general and the head of the Security Council to force the U.S.-led coalition to stop its airstrikes in Syria.

Thursday’s statement came a day after a Syrian medical official said a new mass grave was discovered in the northern city of Raqqa that until last year was a stronghold and the de facto capital of IS. Syrian officials say the bodies of both civilians and IS fighters have been found in the graves.

The head of Al-Raqqa Doctors’ Syndicate, Jamal al-Issa, said the new mass grave includes more than 1,500 bodies who were killed by airstrikes of the U.S.-led coalition that gave cover to U.S.-backed Syrian fighters who captured Raqqa from IS in October last year.Al-Issa said that 4,000 dead persons in the city who were found in mass graves were added to those who were buried in the courtyard of the houses or were pulled out from underneath the rubble.

Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar says joint U.S-Turkish patrols around the northern Syrian town of Manbij have begun.

Akar said combined patrols, that are part of a roadmap aimed at easing tensions between the two allies, began on Thursday.

Ankara and Washington agreed on a roadmap in June amid Turkish demands for the withdrawal of the U.S.-backed Kurdish militia that freed Manbij from the Islamic State group in 2016.

The U.S. and the Turks have been conducting independent patrols along the front line and joint patrols are considered a way to tamp down potential violence between the various groups in the region.

An official with a U.S.-backed militia says joint U.S.-Turkish patrols will begin within hours around the northern Syrian town of Manbij, part of a roadmap for easing tensions between the two NATO allies.

Sharfan Darwish, spokesman of the Manbij Military Council, told The Associated Press that the patrols will begin later Thursday.

Ankara and Washington agreed on a roadmap in June amid Turkish demands for the withdrawal of the U.S.-backed Kurdish militia that freed Manbij from the Islamic State group in 2016.

The Americans and the Turks have been conducting independent patrols along the border, and joint patrols are seen as a way of preventing violence.

The Manbij Military Council that administers the town says the Kurdish militia, which Turkey views as a terrorist group, left Manbij in July.

"Nigerian economy is looking good", Buhari declares

Buhari declares that Nigerian economy is looking good

Buhari vows his administration will continue to implement policies that will make Nigeria's economy better.

President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed his belief that the Nigerian economy is performing well and that his administration is doing its best to improve on it.

The president said this during a meeting with the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Nigeria, Jesper Kamp, at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, November 1, 2018.

In a statement signed by the president's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari noted that his administration will continue to implement policies that will make Nigeria's economy better.

"The Nigerian economy is looking good and we look forward to making it better," he said.

The president also told the new ambassador that he was pleased that relations between Nigeria and Denmark have remained strong; noting that in the economic sphere there is still some more work to do.

The president's claim on the economy is bound to ring hollow to Nigerians as the country's gross domestic product growth (GDP) has crawled since the nation emerged out of economic recession last year.

Many have accused the president of mismanaging the economy and predicted gloom for the country if he wins re-election in the 2019 presidential election.

88 million of the country's estimated 180 to 200 million people live in extreme poverty, the highest in the world.

Ini Edo says she will choose a poor ambitious young man over a rich sugar daddy

Ini Edo is the latest public figure to be interviewed on The NET’s #Secret Questions, an online trivia show that has featured Big Brother Naija alum Nina, Cynthia Morgan, comedian Lasisi Elenu, Ric Hassani, Reekado Banks and Skales, who was on the show last year and revealed that he lost his virginity at thirteen to an older woman. The peculiarity of #SecretQuestions is to unearth information and details about celebrities that aren’t public knowledge, regardless of how mundane they may be.

Asked to choose between a rich sugar daddy and a poor ambitious young man, Edo responded, “Ambitious yes but poor…when you are ambitious you are likely to make money. It’s two things. You can be poor today and but if you have ambition and then you work towards it…I have seen a lot of grass to grace stories, I believe in potentials.â€

Edo, who is also the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on tourism, revealed that she will not kiss an actor with mouth odour on set. “I think I will talk to the director to talk to him because I ain’t kissing anyone with mouth odour. I’ll politely talk to the director and they will sort it out.â€ When asked if she has ever been in such a situation, she said, “Sometimes, you just find a way of not doing the scene exactly that way. These things can always be worked.â€

Edo also had nice things to say about Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ramsey Nouah, admiring them for their great personalities. Early this month, it was announced that Edo collaborated with Uche Jombo on their first movie as executive producers titled Heaven On My Mind. Directed by Jombo, the movie hits cinemas December 6.

Neymar May Go To Prison Over Barcelona Move, Says Spanish Magistrate

A Spanish magistrate leading an investigation into alleged irregularities in Neymar’s move to Barcelona in 2013 says the Brazilian could face up to six years in prison, according to Skysports.com reports.

“The term imposed, in principle, could be between four and six years,” says a decree issued by Judge Jose Maria Vazquez Honrubia, a copy of which was seen by AFP.

Neymar, his parents, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his predecessor Sandro Rosell are all awaiting trial over alleged corruption concerning Neymar’s move to the Spanish giants in 2013.

The Brazil international forward subsequently moved to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017.

The case, which follows a complaint by DIS, a Brazilian group which part-owned the rights to Neymar, surrounds allegations of “corruption” and “fraud” in the player’s move to Barca.

Neymar moved to the club in May 2013 for a reported fee of 57.1m euros. Although no financial details of the deal were revealed by either Barcelona or his Brazilian club Santos, Neymar’s parents were said to have received 40m euros and Santos 17.1m euros.

In January 2014, prosecutors in Madrid began investigating the transfer because documents requested by the authorities contained contradictory information.

Rosell resigned from his post as president a week later and Barcelona subsequently revealed they had actually paid 86.2m euros for the Brazilian star.

DIS, who received 6m euros of the 17.1m given to Santos, alleges that Barca and the Brazilian club colluded to mask the true cost of the deal.

Bartomeu, Rosell, Barcelona, Santos and its former president, Odilio Rodrigues Filho, are now expected to answer charges of fraud, according to the decree.

Because the prison term involved exceeds five years, three judges are set to preside over Neymar’s trial which is expected to be heard at the Audiencia Nacional, a high court with jurisdiction over Spanish territory as well as over international crimes which come under the jurisdiction of Spanish courts.

Whether Neymar faces a prison term remains to be seen, however.

In May 2017, the Spanish authorities said Neymar should stand trial but no date has yet been set.

Canada adopts new immigration policy that spells trouble for Nigerian migrants

Canada adopts policy that affects Nigerian asylum seekers

The policy has already led to accelerated hearings of cases involving Nigerian asylum seekers.

The Canadian government has adopted a new immigration policy that would adversely affect the chances of immigrants who are seeking asylum in the country after illegally crossing through the United States border.

Nigerians notoriously make up a sizable majority of thousands of people who have walked into Canada from the United States to file refugee claims since January 2017.

The trend worried the Canadian government so much that two officials were sent to Lagos earlier this year to work directly with their counterparts in the U.S. visa office to collaborate on how to lower the number of migrants who make asylum claims in Canada using a U.S. visa.

This was because many of the Nigerian asylum seekers in Canada were observed to have arrived bearing valid U.S. visas after having spent very little time in the States.

According to an exclusive story by Reuters, the Canadian government has adopted a new stringent policy to deal with asylum seekers who illegally enter the country across the U.S. border.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the agency responsible for deportations, disclosed to Reuters that it now classifies border-crossers with criminals as a top deportation priority.

This means quicker processing and deportation of people who crossed the border, unlike in the past when claimants could live in Canada for years while their applications were processed.

Toronto lawyer Lorne Waldman believes that the new policy would easily deter asylum seekers with weak claims from crossing into the country.

"The best way of discouraging people from making frivolous claims is by having the claims processed quickly," Waldman said.

Six lawyers told Reuters that the new policy has already led to accelerated hearings, scheduled in blocs, with a focus on cases involving claimants of Nigerian and Haitian origins.

Canada tightening borders against Nigerian illegal immigrants, others

The new policy is another in a series of attempts by the Canadian government to keep out as many illegal migrants as possible.

The Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) dragged the Canadian government to court over a recent court ruling that would make it hard for Nigerians to be granted asylum in the North American country.

The association was displeased with the decision of Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) to establish as a legal precedent its ruling to deny a Nigerian woman's asylum request.

The unnamed Nigerian woman was denied asylum even though she claimed she fled Nigeria to escape the practice of female genital mutilation. The court ruled that she could have sought refuge away from her rural family home in any of Nigeria's large cities of Ibadan or Port Harcourt, and not necessarily run all the way to Canada.

The IRB seized on the ruling to designate it as a "jurisprudential guide" or legal precedent in considering all future Nigerian asylum cases.

The association said the decision meant Nigerians would now likely face a higher bar to gain asylum status than they did in the past with their acceptance rate (33% as of June 2018) already below the average (47%) for all those who crossed the border illegally, according to data from the IRB.

More than 36,000 people have walked into Canada from the United States to file refugee claims since January 2017. Since June 2017, Canadian authorities have reportedly intercepted more than 7,600 Nigerian asylum seekers with 81% of them having valid U.S. non-immigrant visas in their possession.

EFCC to arraign 4 police officers for allegedly stealing N1.3bn

EFCC, policeFour police officers and two firms, are billed to be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja for allegedly diverting N1,301,334,108 from the coffers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The defendants, who were charged before Justice Sherifat Solebo, include Olumide Odumosu, Sule Tegina, Helen Nwafor and Okpalugo Ifeoma.

Others are Olu Osmond Nigeria Limited and Jemmy Yus Investment Nigeria Limited.

They are facing 14 counts.

In the charge, marked, Temp/39698/2018, the EFCC alleged that the defendants stole the N1.3bn from the coffers of the Nigeria Police Force and fraudulently converted it to their own between 2013 and 2014.

The anti-graft agency alleged in the charges that the defendants conspired with one Ogbadu Joseph and one Hassan Muhammed, who were said to be at large.

The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, said the defendants acted contrary to Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and were liable to be punished under Section 285(1) of the same Act.

The defendants were billed to be arraigned in court on Thursday but the proceedings were stalled as the 3rd defendant, Helen Nwafor, told the court that she did not understand English language and would require the charges to be translated to her in Igbo language.

The judge adjourned till November 7, 2018 to get an Igbo interpreter.

The defence counsel, A.O. Osinfowora, however asked that the defendants should be returned to the EFCC, but Justice Solebo turned the prayer down and ordered instead that the defendants should be remanded in the prison custody.

One 'black box' recovered from Indonesia jet as first funeral held

Members of a rescue team carry the flight data recorder, part of the ill-fated Lion Air flight JT 610's black box, after it was recovered from the Java Sea, at Jakarta port on November 1, 2018. – A black box from the crashed Lion Air jet has been recovered, authorities said on November 1, a find that could be critical to establishing why a brand new jet plunged into the Java Sea shortly after take-off, killing 189 people on board. (Photo by BAY ISMOYO / AFP)

A black box from the crashed Lion Air jet has been recovered, authorities said Thursday, a find that could be critical to establishing why a brand new jet plunged into the Java Sea shortly after take-off, killing 189 people on board.

Divers plucked the orange data recorder from the ocean and placed it in a plastic tub as search teams continued to scour the seabed for the fuselage of the Boeing-737 MAX 8, which crashed off Indonesia’s northern coast on Monday and had only been in service a few months.

There have been no survivors and only body parts have been found so far.

Relatives are desperate to be able to say goodbye to their loved ones and the first funeral for one of the passengers was held on Thursday.

But many others have yet to be located and analysts hope further victims could still be found with the bulk of the wreckage.

“I assume that there will be a lot of bodies still strapped into the seats,” aviation analyst Dudi Sudibyo told AFP.

Dozens of divers are taking part in the massive recovery effort along with helicopters and ships, but authorities have all but ruled out finding any survivors.

Cockpit recorder still missing
The black boxes, which airlines are required to install, offer investigators their best chance of discovering why such a new jet crashed. The devices record information about the speed, altitude and direction of the plane as well as flight crew conversations.

“The good news is we have found one of the black boxes,” search and rescue agency head Muhammad Syaugi told reporters.

Authorities say a flight data recorder was recovered, but they were still looking for the cockpit voice recorder.

On a Jakarta dockside Thursday, Boeing and US National Transportation Safety Board officials joined the Indonesian team in sifting through twisted metal plane parts and piles of passengers’ torn clothing, shoes, wallets and mobile phones.

The single-aisle Boeing plane, which was on its way from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang city, is one of the world’s newest and most advanced commercial passenger jets.

Despite the name, black boxes are in fact bright orange with reflective stripes. They are built to survive at vast depths and in extreme heat and are fitted with a beacon which can emit a signal for one month.

Black boxes help explain nearly 90 percent of all crashes, according to aviation experts.

“Data from the plane — the engine, all the instruments — are recorded there,” Sudibyo said. “If there is an anomaly, some technical problem, it is recorded there too.”

First funeral
Passengers’ remains are being sent to hospital for DNA comparison to relatives.

Forensic experts identified Jannatun Cintya Dewi as the first victim of the crash Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old civil servant’s coffin was carried by pallbearers through the streets of her East Java hometown Sidoarjo on Thursday.

Dewi’s mother collapsed and had to be carried into their home, while friends and relatives wiped away tears as the casket was laid in a freshly dug grave sprinkled with flowers. A bowl of fruit and two palm branches lay at one end.

Some relate heart wrenching tales of their final contact with loved ones.

A selfie taken by a newlywed husband, Deryl Fida Febrianto, and sent to his wife some 30 minutes before the jetliner crashed has gone viral online.

Aviation experts are puzzled by the accident but say it’s too early to determine what caused the crash.

Lion’s admission that the jet had an unspecified technical issue on a previous flight — as well its abrupt fatal dive — have raised questions about whether it had faults specific to the newly released model, including a speed-and-altitude system malfunction.

The accident has also resurrected concerns about Indonesia’s poor air safety record which until recently saw the country’s carriers facing years-long bans from entering European Union and US airspace.

Lion Air has been plagued by safety concerns and customer complaints over unreliable scheduling and poor service.

The budget carrier has been involved in a number of incidents including a fatal 2004 crash and a collision between two Lion Air planes at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport.

In 2014, an AirAsia crash in the Java Sea during stormy weather killed 162 people.

Video Clip: Impeachment Looms As Kano Assembly Summons Ganduje

Ganduje

The Daily Nigerian, an online Newspaper published the controversial video clip.

Mr Mujtafah Adamu , the Secretary of the seven-man ad-hoc Committee, disclosed this in an interview  on Thursday in Kano.

He said that the committee had invited the governor via a letter of Oct. 31.

“The letter which was signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Baffa Danagundi and issued to the governor, is requesting his appearance and to hear the matter from his own perspective.’’

A copy of the letter, according to Adamu, is asking the governor for his statement as part of the proceedings on or before the day of the hearing.

The letter reads in part; “You may wish to appear together with your lawyers for the hearing, and enclosed is the copy of the video clips for your perusal.

If the Governor is found guilty, he may be impeached, sources among the lawmakers disclosed.

NAN recalled that the publisher of Daily Nigerian, an online Newspaper, Jafar Jafar, who on Oct. 25, appeared before the committee, had insisted that the published video clips were genuine and not a doctored document.

Jafar had during the public hearing admitted his failure to contact the government officials on the genuineness or otherwise of the video clips before releasing it in the media.

The Publisher, however, disclosed that he had received the clips from a top government official, whose identity he refused to disclose.

PDP chieftain lauds South-South Govs for maintaining regional peace

PDP chieftain lauds South-South Govs for maintaining regional peace

The party chieftain urged leaders at all levels in the country to carry followers along and to live by very good examples for peace to reign.

Mr Emmanuel Ogidi, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-South, has commended Governors and other leaders in the oil-rich region for maintaining peace and stability in the zone.

Ogidi made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

He said though only God gives absolute peace, the Governors had consistently reached out to the grassroots.

“First, it is God that gives lasting peace but I must commend the Governors in the region; they are always reaching out to the people, particularly the youth.

“They make information available to the people; they give regular updates on government activities and carry the people along; they do not threaten them or ignore them, he said.

The party chieftain urged leaders at all levels in the country to carry followers along and to live by very good examples for peace to reign.

Speaking on the progress of the PDP, the chairman said that Nigerians now had very high sympathy for the party, adding that the party hoped to sustain it and win the 2019 elections.

“We assure Nigerians that this PDP will not only redeem its image but improve the lives of Nigerians by the grace of God, he added.

The PDP stalwart also said that the party would ensure strict observation of the principles of democracy and the rule of law, respect for court orders and the sanctity of human life.

Speaking on the late PDP chieftain, Mr Tony Anenhi, Ogidi said that he learnt a lot form the late elder statesman whom he came to know closely in 2005.

He said that Anenhi had gone through betrayals and disappointments in his political career but that he remained resilient.

According to him, Anenih did not believe in violence and that he was always ready to share his experiences with younger politicians to guide them through their career.
