Minimum Wage: Labour insists on strike despite court ruling

NLC<br />

The Organised Labour has insisted on embarking on a nationwide strike over the non-implementation of N30, 000 as the new National Minimum Wage, in spite of the National Industrial Court ruling in Abuja.

Mr Ayuba Wabba, President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja has restrained the organised labour from proceeding on nationwide strike on Friday.

The nationwide strike by organised labour is scheduled to commence on Nov. 6 over the new National Minimum Wage for workers in the country.

According to Wabba, we are not aware of any court ruling and we have not being served any notice.

“We have just concluded our joint organ meetings of the Central Working Committees of the Labour Centres of the NLC, Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the United Labour Congress (ULC) here in Lagos.

“The meeting is the final preparation for a full engagement with the government on the new National Minimum Wage and we have taken our decision to go on the strike.

“Our decision is to go ahead with the nationwide strike unless the government does the needful, he said.

Also, Mr Musa Lawal, TUC General Secretary, also told NAN said the centre was not was aware of any court ruling concerning the planned strike by organised labour.

“We are not aware because we have not been served any court order; we have taken our decision and we are going to stand by that, he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) had issued a communique after its meeting claiming that state governors can only pay N22, 500, as the new national minimum wage.

The organised labour has reiterated its position that any figure below N30, 000 would not be acceptable to labour.

Labour had earlier called on its members to mobilise in preparation for the commencement of an indefinite strike on Nov. 6, unless necessary steps are taken to adopt the recommendation of the Tripartite Committee.

Will Smith, Martin Lawrence Confirm ‘Bad Boys 3’ Is Officially Happening

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have jointly confirmed that the long-awaited Bad Boys 3 is a go, the pair delivering celebratory posts to their respective Instagram pages.

“It’s official! Smith shouts again and again, with Lawrence popping up in the background.

Lawrence also dropped a slightly more sedate post, captioned: “It’s official. Bad Boys for Life.

So it’s official, then. Bad Boys For Life is actually happening.

To say the planned third movie in the Bad Boys series has been long in gestation is something of an understatement, not least because the Michael Bay-directed Bad Boys 2was released in 2003.

The on-again, off-again movie had been previously pulled from Sony Pictures’ release schedule, but then tentatively dated for January, 2020.

The Grey director Joe Carnahan, who was in line to make the movie, exited too, leaving things in limbo.

As recently as last year, Lawrence had said that he was doubtful that it would come together, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out.

“Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m there, I’m ready right now. If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio’s decision.

The recent negotiations haven’t been easy either.

Smith posted a video to social media over the summer of him banging his head against various things, seeming to denote the complexities of getting the movie over its final hurdles.

But it seems the obstacles have been surmounted, and Smith and Lawrence will reprise their roles as Miami narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.

Bad Boys for life, indeed.

Morocco Imposes Online Entry Permit Rule For African Travellers

Morocco has imposed a new rule requiring African migrants to fill out an online travel form for approval at least 96 hours before leaving home.

The procedure on a website carrying the Moroccan Foreign Ministry logo applies to a range of African countries whose citizens currently can enter Morocco without visas, except for Algeria and Tunisia.

The North African country has been grappling with a surge in migrants, arriving mainly on flights into Casablanca.

Many intend to get into Europe and claim asylum by taking boats across a narrow Mediterranean strait to Spain, or scaling fences into the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta or Melilla bordering Morocco.

The new procedure “aims to facilitate passenger traffic … It will help Moroccan authorities know in advance the identity of travellers before boarding (planes), reads a document issued by Morocco’s embassy in Mali and seen by Reuters.

Morocco has come under European Union pressure to reduce crossings of illegal migrants to Spain and wants Rabat to set up “disembarkation platforms – centres where migrants’ asylum applications would be processed.

Morocco has rejected the idea.

In Africa, Morocco offers visa-free entry to the nationals of Algeria, Tunisia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon and Ivory Coast.

The new travel regulation took effect on Thursday for citizens of Congo Brazzaville, Guinea Conakry and Mali, according to a document from the Moroccan airline RAM.

Mali, Guinea and to a lesser extent Congolese nationals comprise the bulk of Europe-bound migrants coming to Morocco.

No fewer than 40,000 African migrants have reached Spain’s southern Andalucia coast by sea from Morocco since January.
