JUST IN: Wife kills self, husband, 3 children in Makurdi

Ondo, wifeThe Police Command in Benue has confirmed the killing of a man and his three children by his wife, who also took her life.

“The man, Mr Nicholas Adetsav, a staff of Makurdi Local Government Council, and his children, were killed on Friday night in Makurdi. His wife, who we believe is responsible for the death of the quartet, also killed herself.

“From information available to us, the woman has been having issues with her husband which might have culminated into this, Mr Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesman, told the News Agency 0f Nigeria (NAN), on Saturday in Makurdi.

Yamu said that the couple, who lived at Vandeikya street, were both staff of Makurdi Local Government Council.

“They have been having issues; just yesterday(Friday), the woman was seen with a pestle trying to smash her husband’s car. No one knows the cause of their frequent fights.

He said that Police personnel sent to the house found the man foaming in the mouth, the three kids already dead, while the woman, also dead, was found holding a knife in her hands.

“The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday; from what we have gathered, the couple fight on daily basis, he told NAN.

Yamu said that investigation had begun toward determining the reasons for the actions, while the corpses had been deposited at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital, Makurdi .

The Chairman, Makurdi Local Government Council, Mrs. Akange Audu, confirmed that the couple were employees of the local government council.

“The husband worked in the Department of Finance while his wife worked with the Department of Agriculture, she said.

She also confirmed that the couple “were always fighting, adding that the woman had warned neighbors to stay off their fights.

A cross section of the neighbors, who spoke to NAN, said that the couple had been having issues.

They said that the couple had been fighting since Friday afternoon, but no one appeared sure of the cause of their fights.

One of the neighbors told NAN that she stopped intervening on their quarrels when Mrs. Adetsav threatened her with a knife during one of such interventions. (NAN)

The Daily Vulnerable | For my sake, I choose truth

I was at dinner with a mentor the other day, and he asked me, “So are you still based outside Nigeria?”

Now, if you live in Nigeria, you know that being seen as ‘based abroad’ is a status enhancer. It indicates some level of options and affluence and opportunities that is a heritage from colonialism and widespread poverty.

I replied him with a smile: I don’t like answering that question.

Why?

Because it turns out I really, really like Nigeria, and I much prefer to live here now and in the immediate future, and I am back home fully and not wanting to go anywhere for a while.

But that means I lose the wonder I see in people’s eyes when they think I am based abroad or crisscrossing the world. It’s good for the brand.

But to lie about my own reality, for whatever advantage, is to allow cobwebs in my emotional chamber. It might impress you in the moment, but then I have to go live with myself when you are gone, and I am alone looking at myself.

I will pay the price in integrity and authenticity, and from there it’s a slippery slope down to forgetting who I really am.

It sounds like a very small thing. But small things collect together, and they can ultimately block off the sunlight of joy.

Sergio Ramos Is A ‘Cancer’ That Must Be Removed From Real Madrid – Inside Source

Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos has been a vital part of the Real side during their Champions League dominance in recent years has now been identified as a ‘cancer’ in the Los Blancos dressing room who must removed because his influence has now grown too big, a club insider has revealed.

No doubt, Ramos’ towering presence in the defence was a crucial part of Madrid historic feat of winning three-in-a-row UEFA Champions’ trophies.

Ian McGarry, the Football Operations and Communications Consultant on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast made these revelations, according to Dailystar.co.uk reports.

McGarry said: “As one very much in the inside Real Madrid hierarchy put to me during my time in Spain over the last couple days, ‘Ramos is a cancer in the dressing room that needs to be cut out’.

“That is a serious, serious situation.

“As captain, as club icon that he is, getting rid of him will be very difficult.

“I think there is now a mood within the Santiago Bernabeu that whatever happens going forward, that whether it is long-term or for the rest of the season, that Ramos needs to be cut out of the club in order for any coach who is coming in to have a chance of managing the dressing room in the way they want to do.

McGarry added Ramos could be forced out of the club to ensure a new era under a new manager, with Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham a potential long-term replacement for the sacked Julen Lopetegui.

He added: “I would say from Real Madrid and Florentino Perez’s point of view, their Plan A is definitely see the season out with a manager who can effectively care-take till May next year on the basis they will then be able to mount a proper engagement of Mauricio Pochettino – and that means getting Ramos out of the club, and probably Marcelo as well and saying you’ve got a clean slate, and by the way you’ve got £350m to spend as well.

“And (they will) try and rebuild that great club under a very different style of manager and a different mentality of how the dressing room politics will be played out.

US Iran sanctions move hits European companies

US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran and reimpose a raft of sanctions puts European businesses on the spot.

While the European Union insists it will stick by the nuclear accord to allow trade to continue with Iran, European companies are wary of being caught out by the US sanctions regime and many have already cut back their presence.

Here is an overview of how firms could be affected:

Auto
The sanctions introduced in August spooked the major automakers who were already cautious about their future in Iran and mindful of their much bigger business interests in the United States.

Germany’s Daimler, which was teaming up with two Iranian firms to assemble Mercedes-Benz trucks, said it had decided against going ahead.

Volkswagen had said last year it planned to resume business after a 17-year break but was very guarded in response to the latest US decision.

VW “conforms with all the applicable national and international laws and regulations concerning exports,” a spokesman said.

French automakers Renault and PSA, who make nearly half the cars sold in Iran, were cautious.

PSA, behind the Peugeot, Citroen and Opel brands, said in June it was preparing to suspend activities in Iran.

Renault says it intends to keep its activities in Iran but stands ready “to reduce the scale very sharply” if need be.

Aviation
Aviation saw large contracts reached following the 2015 nuclear accord as Iran set about modernising an ageing fleet.

Airbus booked deals for 100 jets and was looking forward to many more.

However, the potential loss of business in Iran would not weigh overly heavily on Airbus given its total outstanding order book of some 7,168 planes at end-June.

Oil
Oil is the key issue with global implications for all concerned as Washington aims to cut off Iran’s key source of foreign income.

French energy giant Total announced in August it was pulling out of a massive natural gas project.

Italian energy giant ENI meanwhile has a contract to take two million barrels of oil per month which it will not renew after it finishes this year.

German engineering giant Siemens signed a contract in 2016 to supply gas turbines to Iranian company Mapna.

A spokesman told AFP the company “will take the appropriate measures to bring its affairs into conformity with the multilateral framework concerning Iran.”

Railways, shipbuilding
Italy stands to lose most in these sectors, national railway operator Ferrovie dello Stato Italiano having signed a deal in 2017 to build a high-speed line linking Qom to Arak in northern Iran.

Shipmaker Fincantieri, engineering firm Maire Tecnimont and gas boiler maker Immergas all signed a string of deals with Iran which are also threatened.

Italy was Iran’s largest European trade partner in 2017, with its exports rising 12.5 percent to 1.7 billion euros.

Tourism
Iran is potentially a major tourist destination but European companies were quick to pull back after the August US announcement.

British Airways and Air France halted services in September, saying the flights were not commercially viable.

German carrier Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Alitalia for the moment continue flights to Tehran.

French hotel chain AccorHotels, which opened an establishment in Iran in 2015, declined to comment on its plans for the future.

Spain’s Melia Hotels International chain, which signed a 2016 deal to run a five star hotel in Iran, the Gran Melia Ghoo, said in November it was still going ahead.

2019: Gana Lied, I Remain Firmly Behind Buhari, Will Not Work For Atiku – Tinubu

Tinubu

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reacted to reports that he would secretly work with the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.

Tinubu once again reaffirmed his full support for President Buhari and his re-election ambition in next year’s general elections.

It would be recalled that in a recent interview, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) and former FCT Minister Abba Gana, had claimed that Tinubu would work for Atiku to defeat Buhari because of his long-standing relationship with the former Vice President.

However, in statement through his Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, Tinubu denied Gana’s claims, insisting that he remains solidly behind Buhari and would work for his re-election.

The statement read in part: “His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu indicated long ago where he stood on the matter of the 2019 election.

“He has continued to say he remains firmly behind that patriot, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his mission to rebuild the country from the ruins of the PDP years.

“Only two days ago, he restated this position while speaking with correspondents at the State House in Abuja.

“He said the PDP could hold their meetings anywhere they liked and that Nigerians know who means well for them and is trustworthy.

“Where the former FCT Minister, Abba Gana got his conviction that Asiwaju Tinubu would do otherwise is left only to himself.

“Yes, His Excellency Asiwaju has had a relationship with former Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, just like he has had with many of other leaders in his political journey.

“But this is about Nigeria, the well-being of the country and of Nigerians. On this score, he has made his pick.
