Uncertainty in Gideon Moi’s camp after President Uhuru fails to name his allies in cabinet
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who has declared interest in the 2022 presidential race will have to wait a little longer to know if his allies will make it to the cabinet.
Even after Kenya African National Union (KANU) led by Moi submitted list of nominees for cabinet slots, none of them was appointed, with the party leaving empty handed and disappointed as President Kenyatta named a section of his cabinet.
Earlier on, influential party official Nick Salat ha confirmed that the party had submitted a list of people to be considered for top government and cabinet positions in the Jubilee administration.
Reports indicate that the move had angered Deputy President William Ruto and his allies who protested the move.
Ruto and Moi are both eyeing the presidency in 2022.
In the list that was widely circulated in the media, the party reportedly fronted Nick Salat, Kiprono Kitony and Isack Ruto among others.
The move was interpreted as an attempt by Moi to kick out Ruto as the kingpin of Rift Valley politics and position himself strategically for the 2022 presidential race.
With just a few more slots remaining and with intense lobbying underway, it is not clear if Uhuru will honor KANU’s demand to be given slots in cabinet in exchange for supporting Kenyatta’s reelection bid.
