Welcome to 2018: A year of a new dawn

By Rev Father John Damian Adizie, OCD

FINALLY, you have made it! I welcome you to 2018. Welcome to the year of favour. Welcome to the year of divine breakthrough and prosperity. Welcome to the year of abundant blessings.

I welcome you to the year of divine empowerment, a year when God will use people to empower his chosen people. And above all, you are most welcomed to the year of a new beginning, a year of divine transformation, restoration and jubilation. Your past is over!

Now that you have finally made it into 2018 the Lord God declares through the prophet Isaiah, “Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19).

The first thing you must do in this new year is to get rid of every ugly feelings, situations and experiences. Forget them! No amount of worry can solve your problem. In fact, the more you worry, the more you are most likely to develop sickness. Surrender all your worries to God.

Instead, the Lord wants you to focus on the new things He is about to do in your life and in your family. In this New Year 2018, your family will never be the same! Your marital life will change for better. You will start recording success in your academics. The year 2018 will be a year of business breakthrough for you. There will be no more setback in your business! Whatever you lay your hands shall prosper.

In this New Year 2018, you will not be indebted to nobody. Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord assures us, “See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.” (Isaiah 65:17). All the false allegations and charges the devil and even your enemies are bringing against you will no longer be remembered. They are all cancelled in Jesus name – Amen!

2018 is indeed a year of divine transformation. It is a year when God will transform your life and the lives of those around you. As St Paul declares in his second letter to the Corinthians,  ”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) Child of God, as long as you are in Christ Jesus and as long as this new year is concerned, you are a new creation. All the old and ugly things in your life have passed away! Your sin is over!

The year 2017 recorded a lot of bloodshed because people  were heartless. Only a heartless human being can use bomb to destroy his fellow human being without feeling remorse. It takes a heartless leader to withhold people’s salaries and pensions.

Even President Buhari could not understand why most governors could sleep comfortably while owing people’s salaries. There is no peace for the wicked! Only a heartless leader can comfortably embezzle public fund without minding the outcome of his or her evil action.

In this year 2018, the Lord will not just transform our lives, He will also transform our hearts. He will transform the heart of our leaders and the heart of our society at large. As He declares through the prophet Ezekiel, “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19). The heart of stone is a heartless heart whereas the heart of flesh is heart with feeling, a heart of empathy, a loving heart and a heart that cares.  May God give us such heart in Jesus name – Amen!

Finally, this year 2018 will be a year of celebration and jubilation for you. You will sing and dance for joy! As the psalmist declares, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” (Psalm 40:3).

Child of God, heaven is about hear your joyful songs. People around you will soon celebrate with you.  With your dancing shoe on, be ready, because any moment from now you will dance for joy.  As you rejoice in the Lord and with your fellow human beings, it shall be well with you, in Jesus name – Amen!

As you enter this New Year with faith, hope and love, may the joy and peace of this New Year remain with you both now and forevermore – Amen! Once more, I wish you happy New Year!
