Sex & Relationships: What is a postnuptial agreement, and do I need one?

The prenup isn't your only shot at negotiating terms for a fair split down the line.

You’re married, congrats! If you skipped the whole prenuptial agreement phase of engagement, it's possible that you've been cruising through your newlywed days without ever giving a second thought to what might happen if you ever (gasp) get a divorce. After all, you’re feeling pretty good about things.

But with high-profile celeb divorces in the news (Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, we're looking at you) and perhaps friends—who you thought were solid—splitting, at some point you may start to think: Could it happen to me?

And that’s where the postnuptial agreement comes in. Because, as you’ve heard, even the most well-meaning divorces can turn nasty. What's a post-nup exactly? At its core, it’s just like a prenuptial agreement. “This is a written contractual agreement spouses enter into to define what will happen in the event of a divorce or separation. It lays out what both people can expect in the future, and helps avoid future conflict,” says Kevyn Noonan Hayes, a family and divorce attorney in Naples, Florida. (Depending on your state, you’ll need to be married or in a civil union to enter into a postnup.)

Since you didn’t get a prenup, a postnup may be your best bet in protecting yourself. Half of divorce attorneys said that the rate of postnups have increased in the past three years, according to a 2015 survey members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Not sure if a postnup is for you? Here's a few reasons why you may consider getting one:

You’ve got kids from another marriage: If you have a child outside of the marriage and you’d like to define expectations for what that child may receive from that particular parent, you may consider a postnup, says Noonan Hayes. “Even when you have kids of your own, a postnup lets you lay out a parenting plan when you don’t want the prospect of fighting over custody,” she adds.

To protect your assets: If you want to avoid a knock-down, drag-out divorce, a postnup can lay out the groundwork so you don’t have to deal with the headache of splitting things up. You can determine who would take on various assets and debt. However, it must be fair and agreed upon by both people.

One spouse is in trouble: Let’s say your spouse develops a drug addiction, has a gambling problem, or got arrested for embezzling money at work. You obviously don’t want to be on the hook for the money they're losing gambling. In that event, both spouses can enter into a postnup, says Noonan Hayes, but you both have to be in agreement about it. This isn’t something you can just hire a lawyer to draw up for you and then—poof!—you’re protected. Your spouse has to want it, too.

If you’re thinking about a postnup, know it’s not for everyone. First, consider how much you and your spouse each make. If you bring in less than him, Noonan Hayes doesn’t suggest getting a postnup. “You don’t want to potentially settle for less than you could have gotten in a divorce,” she says.

If you and your spouse are young and just starting out—and you’re saying to yourself, hey we barely have anything, ha!—you probably don’t need to worry about a pre or postnup, either. “You’d potentially give up what you could gain from that marriage,” says Noonan Hayes.

However, maybe you’re killing it at your job and are the breadwinner of the fam, then a prenup is your best bet to protect your earnings. That said, “if you didn’t consider it before marriage, are on a business track to make more money as a woman, and depending on your spouse’s situation, then you may think about a postnup,” adds Noonan Hayes. What’s more, if you work a busy job and are worried that your husband would be awarded custody of children in the event of a split, you can draw up the documents to agree to a 50/50 custody arrangement right now.

Since a postnup needs to be fair to both people, Noonan Hayes recommends that both you and your spouse hire separate attorneys so that you’re fully aware of what you’re agreeing to, as well as how it may affect your future.

It may also help to include a clause about why you’re drafting one up, which can help the courts understand the motive, should the postnup need to be put in play. “Is the reason child custody? Is one spouse in trouble? If there’s ever an issue with the validity of the document, the court could look back on this statement,” says Noonan Hayes.

“It’s hard to think about the marriage not working out, but the postnup is there just in case,” adds Noonan Hayes. Besides, hopefully you’ll never need it, right?

Basically, hair colouring is chemistry.

The art of hair dyeing is all about the reactions that take place in between the pigments in the hair, the pigments in dye, peroxide, and ammonia. And these reactions can best be described as chemical reactions.

Be that as it may, chemical reaction which is a process that involves the rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance is not something we should encourage to alter our looks.

But this doesn't change the fact that to most people, dyeing of hair is one of the most fun things to do.

To them there is really no difference between changing the colour of their hair colour and changing their clothes.

However, in as much as it cannot be denied that hair tinting gives the face a certain kind of classy, it should also be made known that dyes can often come with harmful side effects.

This is why we've decided to put together this article in other to let you know the side effects of hair dyeing.

Read on to see some of the side effects that come with dyeing of hair.

1. Allergic reactions

Hair dyes contain paraphenylenediamine, and paraphenylenediamine is a common allergen (An allergen is a type of antigen that produces an abnormally vigorous immune response, which the immune system fights off a perceived threat that would otherwise be harmless to the body).

 

So whether you are colouring your hair for the purpose of experimenting or just to enjoy the feeling that comes with dyeing one's hair, you stand the chance of risking severe allergic reactions.

This is why people who have contact dermatitis are particularly prone to reactions because of the PPD and other chemicals that are present in dyes.

Therefore, it is advisable for those with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis to refrain from using hair dyes.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that not having had an allergic reaction in the past does not mean you won’t have one in the future.

2. Irritable skin

Dermatologists have been advising people for some time now to abstain from using hair dye at the slightest hint of any skin reaction; because skin reaction is another side effect that periodically comes with hair colouring.

Some common symptoms include burning sensations, redness, and flaky skin, itchiness and discomfort.

3. Conjunctivitis

It is almost impossible to dye your hair yourself without the dye touching your face. When this happens, chemicals from the dyes can make contact with your eyes, which can lead to conjunctivitis or pink eye.

In other cases, it causes inflammation and severe discomfort.

4. Fertility issues

There is a particular ingredient that is commonly used in permanent hair dyes, it is known as Lead acetate.

Researchers have made it public that there's a possible link between this chemical and fertility issues in men and women. And that nothing has been done about it does not mean that the researchers are wrong.

However, it is advisable for pregnant women to refrain from using any kind of hair dyes as the chemicals present may cause malignancy in their unborn child.

 5. Cancer

Although this might sound shocking and somewhat unbelievable, the fact still remains that it is true.

 

When permanent hair dyes were first introduced, they were found to have carcinogenic compounds (cancer-causing compounds.)

While the formulas were altered to replace these chemicals, the debate as to whether hair dyes can cause cancer is yet to be settled.

The United Nations Children Funds (UNICEF) has ranked Nigeria third worldwide in the open defecation. The global body says one-third of the country practice this act.

This latest rating was disclosured by UNICEF's Chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Nigeria, Mr Zaid Jurji during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Katsina state, Mr Aminu Masari on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.

“The situation of sanitation in Nigeria is alarming. Nigeria is a heavyweight country, not only in Africa but worldwide,” Zaid said.

“It does not go well to know that open defecation is being practised widely in various communities in a strong country like Nigeria. So, we need to do something about that beyond the traditional approach to improve on the situation.’’

A survey by the global body in 2016 shows that about one billion people, or 15 percent of the global population, practice open defecation. More so, Nigeria was identified among the top 5 countries with 39 million engaging in the act.

Other countries with the highest cases of this practice Indonesia (54 million people), Pakistan (41 million people) Ethiopia (34 million), and Sudan (17 million).

The revelation is in a new book,  ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, written by Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the author, it was suggested at one of the crisis meetings that the military should stage a coup, after Jonathan had conceded defeat to Buhari.

He wrote, “Many in President Jonathan’s circles were still convinced that he had moved too quickly to congratulate Buhari. As they saw it, he should have tarried a while and possibly consulted more. In spite of what had happened however, it was still possible to salvage something. Jonathan’s call had more or less shut the door on everything. However, so long as Buhari had not been sworn in, there would still be cracks that sheer grit and guile could blow wide open.

“Another meeting was quickly summoned. Again, the idea of military takeover was mooted. The two most senior military officers at the meeting held to deliberate on this however advised that it was too late in the day. The ideal moment would have been before the six weeks postponement. If they had taken over at the time, they would have sacked (INEC chairman Attahiru) Jega as part of the military intervention and announced a new date for the election.

“While they might not be able to keep Jonathan in power, they would have been able to guarantee that Buhari would not be president. As things stood, no one would be able to withstand the bloodletting that could follow a military takeover after a clear winner had emerged.”

This warning was given by a Professor of Primate Community Ecology, George Ogunjemite, while delivering the 92nd inaugural lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, on the topic Monkeys and Apes: Man in Its Reminiscence.

Professor Ogunjemite said man must handle primates and other mammals in his environment with utmost care to maintain quality of life and the peaceful co-existence of all living things and prevent catastrophic diseases and plaques that can debilitate the human race.

Similarities with humans
According to him, the remarkable genetic and physiological similarities between chimpanzee and humans explain why they may be easily affected by the same disease causative agents.

He cited the example of the HIV-1 and HIV-2, which are of zoonotic origin with their closest relatives in chimpanzee and related species.

Proffers solutions
Stressing that the threat of Ebola and Monkey Pox diseases are often products of disturbances of ecological balance in the environment, Ogunjemite further said for human not to encounter a far deadlier disease than the prevailing ones, everyone must develop strong commitment and love for the conservation of all other living resources.

On the way forward Ogunjemite proposed that primate-based eco-tourism should be encouraged for tourist enjoyment, thereby promoting opportunities to admire and support conservation of the species and other animals living within the forest.

He declared that non-human primates provide an important data source for understanding many aspects of human behaviour and physiology.

Ogunjemite, who was introduced by the Chairman of the event, FUTA’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, also suggested that saving reserves such as the one in Ifon, Ondo State, should be pursued because of its strategic location as an Ecotone for the forest and savannah ecologies of South-West region.

He said the reserve harbours a high number of primate species of rainforest and savannah ecosystem.

A few days after the son of a former PDP Chairman was stabbed to death by his wife, another man has been stabbed by his wife during a quarrel.

A few days after Bilyaminu Bello, the son of former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Haliru Bello, was stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam Sanda, another man who incidentally bears the same name, Bilyaminu Yusuf, has suffered the same fate.

The new incident, according to Hausa news portal, Rariya, happened in Gusau, Zamfara State where it was reported that Yusuf was stabbed by his wife, Murjanatu, during a quarrel in their home at the Tudun Wada area of Gusau.

It was gathered that Yusuf and Murjanatu got into an argument over a yet to be ascertained issue and in the heat of the moment, she broke a bottle and stabbed him several times on the head and chest.

Yusuf was said to have been rushed to the Gusau General Hospital where doctors have been battling to save his life.

Murjanatu, according to the report, has since been arrested by the police where she is being detained while an investigation has commenced in earnest.

There are ways for men to speak about sexual harassment without being mocked by other men.

When men get sexually harassed and molested they hide in a shell of silence, most times refusing to speak about it.

While women are afraid of being shamed and judged if they open up about sexual abuse or harassment, men are afraid of being ridiculed by their peers.

Nothing hurts more for a man to be made fun of by his friends because he is too ‘soft’ or a ‘crybaby’. They would rather suffer in silence than speak to someone about what they are going through.

This attitude has stopped many men from speaking up about sexual harassment or molestation from peers, superiors, lovers and even spouses. The hurt, pain and confusion are bottled up inside till it becomes toxic.

It might still be a long time before men come out in public and talk about these issues but there are ways for them to express themselves without the fear of them looking weak or soft.

 

Men who are going through sexual harassment or have experienced it can talk to a very close friend. This should not be a random friend that you met a viewing centre. It should be a close friend who has known you for quite a while and will listen to you without judgement or reservations.

Talking to a close friend eases the tension a bit and helps you unburden some of that mental load that you have been carrying out for a while.

Apart from speaking to a close male friend, you can also talk to a female friend. Women are more sympathetic to these things and the average woman has faced more sexual harassment than a man.

Another option is to speak to a professional. Guidance counsellors and psychiatrist are professionally equipped to handle what you are going through. They don’t come free but it is better to pay and get good mental health than to suffer in silence.

Home-based Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye, says the team’s performance at the upcoming Super Six competition will show their readiness to conquer the continent at the 2015 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

Salisu Yusuf’s men will use the Nigeria Professional Football League pre-season competition to prepare for the CHAN which is billed to take place in four Moroccan cities from January 13 to February 4.

“It’s a good thing that we will be playing in the Super Six competition before the CHAN,” Ajiboye who will come up against his club, Plateau United at the competition informed Completesportsnigeria.com.

“With the calibre of teams that will be playing in the competition, it will be a good test for  us and our performance will show how ready we are for the CHAN.”

Nigeria will play in Group C along with Rwanda,  Libya and Equatorial Guinea at the competition designed for players playing in their country’s domestic leagues.

The home-based Super Eagles who will be making their third appearance in the competition failed to progress beyond the group stage at the 2016 edition in Rwanda.

Kano Pillars Captain Gambo Returns After Failed Move To Join Plateau United

Kano Pillars have hinted that their star forward Gambo Mohammed is back at the club following a failed attempt to link up with Nigeria Professional Football League Champions,  Plateau United, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The striker who is also the captain of the team still has a year left on his contract with the Sai Masu Gida, signed a two- year contract with Plateau United last month without the approval of Kano Pillars.

He has however made a U-turn and returned to the former NPFL champions after tendering his apology.

“I can confirm to you that Gambo Mohammed is back with us,” Spokesman of the club, Idris Malikawa  disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com Thursday morning from Kano.

“He  has apologised to his teammates and the club and we are glad to have him back with us.

“All things being equal, he will join his colleagues on their return from the Gold Cup  pre-season competition in Ilorin.”

Mohammed was first reported to be on the verge of joining Rivers United before the ill-fated move to Plateau United.

The 29- year old has spent over a decade with Kano Pillars having joined the club from amateur outfit Buffalo FC in 2006 and is the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.

“One of African countries needs to pray against military intervention, I don’t want to say South, North, East or West Africa but one of the African countries should pray against military intervention so that their democracy will not be truncated,” the reverend warned at the service.

Continuing, Prophet Iginla said, “I see military intervention. I don’t know why they are intervening but what they are intervening for is between God and the future. This country has to pray so they don’t go back to where they are coming from”.

So far, Bro. Iginla, as he is popularly known and called had foretold a number of events majority of which came to pass.
Recall, on 14th November, 2017, Zimbabwe’s military seized control of the impoverished Southern African nation, placing longtime leader, Robert Mugabe under house arrest and deploying armored vehicles to the streets of the capital, Harare.

Political analysts say the crisis was the climax of power struggle between liberation-era figures loyal to the country’s ousted vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa and forces faithful to First Lady, Grace Mugabe, who was positioning herself to succeed her 93-year-old husband. The events on Tuesday 21st November, 2017 led to Robert Mugabe’s resignation as the president of Zimbabwe, ending his 37-year reign.

Speaking on the eventual removal of Mugabe from office yesterday, Bro. Iginla however, said he is not particular about the removal of Mugabe but that the right person should take charge.

He further commended the military for not staging a coup but simply intervening according to the message God gave to him concerning the crisis.

Interestingly, Bro. Iginla’s emergence has one of the leading prophetic voices in the world today. One of his shocking predictions which shook Africa was in December 31, 2014 when during a live service he said the unpopular party in Zambia’s forthcoming election, Patriotic Front whose candidate is Lungu was going to emerge winner of the election. And it came to pass.

The prophecy generated a heated controversy with many waiting to prove that the man of God was a liar. Undaunted, he said he can’t change it since it was God’s voice. And he was proved right. Lungu is now the President of Zambia. He also predicted the attack on his (Lungu’s) health which came to pass according to his word.

President Donald Trump wants his daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, to leave Washington, DC and head back to New York, Vanity Fair reported on Tuesday.

Trump reportedly advocates the move because he wants the couple to avoid negative press coverage. He is also said to be growing increasingly frustrated with Kushner.

"He keeps pressuring them to go," one source told Vanity Fair.

Both Kushner and Ivanka are central figures in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Mueller is reportedly investigating Trump's role in crafting a misleading statement his son, Donald Trump Jr., released after it emerged that he met with a Kremlin-connected lawyer at Trump Tower in June 2016. Mueller is also building an obstruction-of-justice case against Trump, related to his decision to fire FBI director James Comey in May.

Kushner is a central figure in both events — he attended the June 2016 meeting, and multiple media reports have said that he strongly urged Trump to fire Comey. He was also with Trump in Bedminster, New Jersey during a weekend in early May, when Trump put together a draft letter laying out the reasons he wanted to fire Comey. He never sent the letter — White House counsel Don McGahn advised him against doing so — but he fired Comey days later. That decision ultimately led to Mueller's appointment as special counsel.

Trump is also, according to Vanity Fair, frustrated with Kushner's political advice. Kushner reportedly advocated for Trump to back Alabama Republican candidate Luther Strange in the runoff against Roy Moore, which Strange then lost.

Moore is now in an increasingly competitive race against Democrat Doug Jones to fill the Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The Italian Embassy has apologised for hurriedly burying the 26 girls – Abike Dabiri

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, says the Italian embassy in Nigeria has tendered an apology to the Federal Government.

Antecedent: They were accused of burying the 26 girls who died on the Mediterranean earlier than scheduled.

“The Italian Embassy has apologised for the mix up for dates in the burial of the victims of the Mediterranean tragedy. NAPTIP and other agencies will continue to work with Italy and others to stem the tide of irregular migration,” she wrote in a tweet.
