Life is beautiful and it’s the most important thing to every mortal. Nothing in this world makes any meaning or matter if there is no life. The dead cannot complain or murmur so where there is life, there is hope. To live is to hope and to hope is to live.

Life brings with it hope for opportunities that will activate our faith for a tomorrow. Life is simple but yet complex, filled with ups and downs, forward and backward movements. It presents us with choices; the choice to take a left or to take a right is solely dependent on us which can be influenced by our circumstances.

The choice to speak up or to keep silent, the choice to be right or be wrong, do good or do evil, move up or move down, the choice to give or to withhold, speak the truth or speak a lie, to love or to hate, to ignore or to acknowledge, to live or to perish…so yes we have choices in life and we are accountable for our choices.

Life as a gift

Life is a precious gift from God/universe and just like most precious gifts; it is expected of you to appreciate it and reverence the giver. Unlike human gifting, this particular gift comes with terms and conditions and that is why finding your purpose in life is relevant.

You wake up every day feeling thankful and hoping for the best. Where hope is in place, a better tomorrow is certain. Appreciate the people around you whom God has used in one way or the other to bless your life no matter how little they contribute to your life.

Life is a gift but you do not have power over it and you cannot make a claim on it; it is a gift but the universe can recall it at any time. It is specially wrapped with your name on it but comes with an expiry date. It is gifted to you but with an expectation from the giver, so it is your duty to find out what this expectation is as this will enable you make the most it before it expires. Every day you live, means there is an expectation still pending.

Live and be happy

Live life and do not let life live you. For every time you wake up, there is always a reason why the universe has allowed you to. Reassure yourself that whatever it is you are going through at the moment will always pass; as life has an expiry date so does every problem.   Someone said that ‘suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem’ and I totally agree.

If you hold on to hope, you will someday refer to that problem in a past tense. Do not give up. A life of gratitude is a life of happiness. It helps for a smoother journey through life. Thank the universe for the little things and it will always take care of the bigger things for you. Sometimes the hurdles we encounter in life make us stronger and give us a much impactful storyline for others who would one day look up to us.

Try and find happiness in little things of life and it will attract to you things worth celebrating. To be happy is not given, it’s a choice you make and it comes from within you. Every day, we can encounter so many things that will attempt to take joy away from us but every day, we can also make that decision to be happy regardless of. Don’t forget, lemonades are made with lemons.

Life has an expiry date so live it wisely. Always remember you’ve only got this one shot at it; you don’t need bitterness, envy, backbiting, hatred, anger, fear to ruin it for you. Life is full of lessons; ensure to learn as you go.

Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe was granted immunity from prosecution, sources close to the negotiations said on Thursday.

According to the source, Mugabe was assured that his safety would be protected in his home country as part of a deal that led to his resignation.

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe for close to four decades but stepped down on Tuesday after the army seized power and the ruling party turned against him.

This curtsy lunge modification adds both size and strength.

Short on time, but don't want to skip leg day? The curtsy lunge (some people call them “ice-skaters”) is a perfect move to help you build serious muscle in no time.

It’s a challenging move that takes as much coordination as it does strength, and it’s a good way to get in your leg workout quickly.

Now, we’re about to make the curtsy lunge a little bit harder. As Paige Hathaway, Global Ambassador at F45 Training, shows us in the video above, a simple hop can add all sorts of pain to a curtsy lunge.

“This is an F45 exercise, so I’m excited to show you guys it,” she says. “It targets the glutes and the hamstrings.”

You start with your typical curtsy lunge—feet shoulder-width apart, and lunging back diagonally. This move targets more muscles than your typical reverse lunge, and adds a bit of a coordination challenge as well.

But instead of coming back from the lunge into an upright position, Hathaway adds an extra challenge to the mix: a hop. “We’re going to add an element,” she says. Hopping on your front foot gives your other leg extra work.

It’s a plyometric motion that adds explosive power, burns more fat, and builds more muscle.

Hathaway recommends doing this move on 30 seconds for each leg. That’s a quick burn for someone who’s short on time—and loves to work their legs.

To get started on this you will need the following;

TOOLS

• Sandpaper

• Cloth

• Scraper

• Roller

• Paintbrushes

• Sander

MATERIALS

• Wood sealer

• Topcoat/paint

• Chemical stripper

• Paint thinner/remover

• Stain blocker or oil-based undercoat

• Primer

So grab your tools, materials and start fixing!

1. DRIPS

 

Drips can be unsightly are usually result from overloading the paint brush during application.

Fix: Use a scraper to scrape back the paint drips (Image 2). Sandpaper the area to a smooth finish (Image 3). Repaint the sanded area.

2. ROUGH FINISH

 

Rough finishes result from impurities introduced into the paint during application. A rough paint finish spoils the appearance of a painted surface (Image 1).

Fix: Use sandpaper to smoothen the area (Image 2). Clean down with a cloth to remove dust. Repaint the area with topcoat.

3. WRINKLED PAINT

 

Wrinkles appear on painted surfaces from painting coats too quickly, and not allowing adequate drying time. It can also be caused by extremes of temperature while the paint is drying.

Fix: Strip paint completely using chemical stripper or a hot air gun. Sand down the area and repaint

4. STAINS

 

Stains are caused by smoke damage, mildew, not properly scraping off old paint or not priming before painting.

Fix: Clean the area thoroughly with paint thinner and leave to dry completely. Apply stain blocker or oil-based undercoat over the stain and allow to dry (Image 2). Recoat with spare topcoat.

5. BRUSH MARKS

 

Sometimes, poor application of paint on a surface leaves streaks from strokes of the brush. Obvious brush marks in different directions can make paint finishes look uneven.

Fix: Sandpaper the area. Wipe the area clean of dust with a damp cloth. Repaint the area.

As Robert Mugabe’s regime tottered and fell, one immediate benefit that Zimbabweans celebrated with glee was the sudden absence of bribe-extracting police who were a symbol of life under his rule.

Endless police roadblocks were a notorious feature of every journey in Zimbabwe, with drivers reluctantly paying frequent bribes to evade long questioning over minor alleged offences.

But across Harare and along major national routes, barely a single police officer has been spotted since the military took over on November 14 and forced Mugabe to step down after 37 years in power.

During the turmoil, the absence of police — and the presence of the occasional armoured military vehicle on the streets — shed light on the dramatic political struggle that was fought behind closed doors.

Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri remained a key supporter of Mugabe and his wife Grace until the end — while army chief General Constantino Chiwenga led the military effort to unseat the president.

For ordinary Zimbabweans, the future under incoming president Emmerson Mnangagwa may be uncertain, but the disappearance of corrupt traffic officers has been a daily cause to relish Mugabe’s exit.

“I was paying bribes two or three times a week,” Norman Manzini, 35, a self-employed brokerage dealer who drives a 2004 Nissan March hatchback, told AFP.

“It is amazing, now my route is clear every day.

“Even when everything about your car was perfect, they could pull you over about some silly thing and claim there was a fine to pay. To get away, you had to pay $5 (4.20 euros) or even $10.”

‘All about cash’
Manzini dismissed fears that crime might rise with the police apparently confined to their stations.

“The army are not dangerous or corrupt,” he said. “They let people go about their daily lives.”

For everyday transport, many Zimbabweans rely on privately-run “kombi” mini-bus taxis — favoured targets for bribe-hungry police.

“There used to be so many police roadblocks, with the driver having to pay $1 or $2,” said kombi passenger Spiwe Azvigumi, 31, an unemployed mother of three.

“It was never about speeding or whatever, it was about them collecting cash. It was impossible to escape. Some kombi owners even arranged to pay their fines in advance.

“With the police off the roads, crime is actually down — they were so corrupt and now we are living free.”

Faster commute
Encounters with the police were often polite but lengthy, and anyone who tried to swerve around a checkpoint faced having their tyres deflated by spikes thrown across the road.

In recent days, traffic flow at key junctions in Harare where officers normally lurked has been smooth.

Many Zimbabweans say the police were under pressure from their seniors to bring in bribe money — and were set monthly targets.

Zimbabwe’s political crisis has so far been peaceful ahead of Mnangagwa’s inauguration on Friday.

Whether the police will soon return to streets under his new adminstration is unclear.

The political upheaval could also worsen the dire economy that has left Zimbabwe often unable to pay army and police salaries on time.

For Paddington Chichiri, 24, the historic developments for his country have also meant a much easier 18-kilometre (11 mile) commute by kombi bus from the suburb of Glen View.

“Even if you weren’t always pulled over, it used to take over 40 minutes to get through six or seven roadblocks,” he said.

“The police have just disappeared and now it takes less the 20 minutes.

“We don’t mind the army for now. They’re ok.”

Sex & Relationships: What is a postnuptial agreement, and do I need one?

The prenup isn't your only shot at negotiating terms for a fair split down the line.

You’re married, congrats! If you skipped the whole prenuptial agreement phase of engagement, it's possible that you've been cruising through your newlywed days without ever giving a second thought to what might happen if you ever (gasp) get a divorce. After all, you’re feeling pretty good about things.

But with high-profile celeb divorces in the news (Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, we're looking at you) and perhaps friends—who you thought were solid—splitting, at some point you may start to think: Could it happen to me?

And that’s where the postnuptial agreement comes in. Because, as you’ve heard, even the most well-meaning divorces can turn nasty. What's a post-nup exactly? At its core, it’s just like a prenuptial agreement. “This is a written contractual agreement spouses enter into to define what will happen in the event of a divorce or separation. It lays out what both people can expect in the future, and helps avoid future conflict,” says Kevyn Noonan Hayes, a family and divorce attorney in Naples, Florida. (Depending on your state, you’ll need to be married or in a civil union to enter into a postnup.)

Since you didn’t get a prenup, a postnup may be your best bet in protecting yourself. Half of divorce attorneys said that the rate of postnups have increased in the past three years, according to a 2015 survey members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Not sure if a postnup is for you? Here's a few reasons why you may consider getting one:

You’ve got kids from another marriage: If you have a child outside of the marriage and you’d like to define expectations for what that child may receive from that particular parent, you may consider a postnup, says Noonan Hayes. “Even when you have kids of your own, a postnup lets you lay out a parenting plan when you don’t want the prospect of fighting over custody,” she adds.

To protect your assets: If you want to avoid a knock-down, drag-out divorce, a postnup can lay out the groundwork so you don’t have to deal with the headache of splitting things up. You can determine who would take on various assets and debt. However, it must be fair and agreed upon by both people.

One spouse is in trouble: Let’s say your spouse develops a drug addiction, has a gambling problem, or got arrested for embezzling money at work. You obviously don’t want to be on the hook for the money they're losing gambling. In that event, both spouses can enter into a postnup, says Noonan Hayes, but you both have to be in agreement about it. This isn’t something you can just hire a lawyer to draw up for you and then—poof!—you’re protected. Your spouse has to want it, too.

If you’re thinking about a postnup, know it’s not for everyone. First, consider how much you and your spouse each make. If you bring in less than him, Noonan Hayes doesn’t suggest getting a postnup. “You don’t want to potentially settle for less than you could have gotten in a divorce,” she says.

If you and your spouse are young and just starting out—and you’re saying to yourself, hey we barely have anything, ha!—you probably don’t need to worry about a pre or postnup, either. “You’d potentially give up what you could gain from that marriage,” says Noonan Hayes.

However, maybe you’re killing it at your job and are the breadwinner of the fam, then a prenup is your best bet to protect your earnings. That said, “if you didn’t consider it before marriage, are on a business track to make more money as a woman, and depending on your spouse’s situation, then you may think about a postnup,” adds Noonan Hayes. What’s more, if you work a busy job and are worried that your husband would be awarded custody of children in the event of a split, you can draw up the documents to agree to a 50/50 custody arrangement right now.

Since a postnup needs to be fair to both people, Noonan Hayes recommends that both you and your spouse hire separate attorneys so that you’re fully aware of what you’re agreeing to, as well as how it may affect your future.

It may also help to include a clause about why you’re drafting one up, which can help the courts understand the motive, should the postnup need to be put in play. “Is the reason child custody? Is one spouse in trouble? If there’s ever an issue with the validity of the document, the court could look back on this statement,” says Noonan Hayes.

“It’s hard to think about the marriage not working out, but the postnup is there just in case,” adds Noonan Hayes. Besides, hopefully you’ll never need it, right?

The art of hair dyeing is all about the reactions that take place in between the pigments in the hair, the pigments in dye, peroxide, and ammonia. And these reactions can best be described as chemical reactions.

Be that as it may, chemical reaction which is a process that involves the rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance is not something we should encourage to alter our looks.

But this doesn't change the fact that to most people, dyeing of hair is one of the most fun things to do.

To them there is really no difference between changing the colour of their hair colour and changing their clothes.

However, in as much as it cannot be denied that hair tinting gives the face a certain kind of classy, it should also be made known that dyes can often come with harmful side effects.

This is why we've decided to put together this article in other to let you know the side effects of hair dyeing.

1. Allergic reactions

Hair dyes contain paraphenylenediamine, and paraphenylenediamine is a common allergen (An allergen is a type of antigen that produces an abnormally vigorous immune response, which the immune system fights off a perceived threat that would otherwise be harmless to the body).

 

So whether you are colouring your hair for the purpose of experimenting or just to enjoy the feeling that comes with dyeing one's hair, you stand the chance of risking severe allergic reactions.

This is why people who have contact dermatitis are particularly prone to reactions because of the PPD and other chemicals that are present in dyes.

Therefore, it is advisable for those with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis to refrain from using hair dyes.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that not having had an allergic reaction in the past does not mean you won’t have one in the future.

2. Irritable skin

Dermatologists have been advising people for some time now to abstain from using hair dye at the slightest hint of any skin reaction; because skin reaction is another side effect that periodically comes with hair colouring.

Some common symptoms include burning sensations, redness, and flaky skin, itchiness and discomfort.

3. Conjunctivitis

It is almost impossible to dye your hair yourself without the dye touching your face. When this happens, chemicals from the dyes can make contact with your eyes, which can lead to conjunctivitis or pink eye.

In other cases, it causes inflammation and severe discomfort.

4. Fertility issues

There is a particular ingredient that is commonly used in permanent hair dyes, it is known as Lead acetate.

Researchers have made it public that there's a possible link between this chemical and fertility issues in men and women. And that nothing has been done about it does not mean that the researchers are wrong.

However, it is advisable for pregnant women to refrain from using any kind of hair dyes as the chemicals present may cause malignancy in their unborn child.

 5. Cancer

Although this might sound shocking and somewhat unbelievable, the fact still remains that it is true.

 

When permanent hair dyes were first introduced, they were found to have carcinogenic compounds (cancer-causing compounds.)

While the formulas were altered to replace these chemicals, the debate as to whether hair dyes can cause cancer is yet to be settled.

The United Nations Children Funds (UNICEF) has ranked Nigeria third worldwide in the open defecation. The global body says one-third of the country practice this act.

This latest rating was disclosured by UNICEF's Chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Nigeria, Mr Zaid Jurji during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Katsina state, Mr Aminu Masari on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.

“The situation of sanitation in Nigeria is alarming. Nigeria is a heavyweight country, not only in Africa but worldwide,” Zaid said.

“It does not go well to know that open defecation is being practised widely in various communities in a strong country like Nigeria. So, we need to do something about that beyond the traditional approach to improve on the situation.’’

A survey by the global body in 2016 shows that about one billion people, or 15 percent of the global population, practice open defecation. More so, Nigeria was identified among the top 5 countries with 39 million engaging in the act.

Other countries with the highest cases of this practice Indonesia (54 million people), Pakistan (41 million people) Ethiopia (34 million), and Sudan (17 million).

‘How Jonathan supporters wanted a military coup after Buhari’s victory’

The revelation is in a new book,  ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, written by Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the author, it was suggested at one of the crisis meetings that the military should stage a coup, after Jonathan had conceded defeat to Buhari.

He wrote, “Many in President Jonathan’s circles were still convinced that he had moved too quickly to congratulate Buhari. As they saw it, he should have tarried a while and possibly consulted more. In spite of what had happened however, it was still possible to salvage something. Jonathan’s call had more or less shut the door on everything. However, so long as Buhari had not been sworn in, there would still be cracks that sheer grit and guile could blow wide open.

“Another meeting was quickly summoned. Again, the idea of military takeover was mooted. The two most senior military officers at the meeting held to deliberate on this however advised that it was too late in the day. The ideal moment would have been before the six weeks postponement. If they had taken over at the time, they would have sacked (INEC chairman Attahiru) Jega as part of the military intervention and announced a new date for the election.

“While they might not be able to keep Jonathan in power, they would have been able to guarantee that Buhari would not be president. As things stood, no one would be able to withstand the bloodletting that could follow a military takeover after a clear winner had emerged.”

NBA: Aminu Resumes Training With Blazers After Layoff Over Injury

D’Tigers forward Al-Farouq Aminu has resumed training with the Portland Trail Blazers three weeks after spraining his ankle, Completesportsnigeria.com can reports.

Aminu who has missed Blazers’ last ten games is expected to go through some full-contact practices before he returns to the court fully next week.

The 27 year old watched his side lose Thursday morning’s game 81-101 to the Philadelphia Sixers.

Aminu started the first eight games of the NBA season with the Portland Trail Blazers. But he need to battle his way back into the Portland Trail Blazers’ starting lineup with Noah Vonleh, Maurice Harkless, Pat Connaughton and Caleb Swanigan all posting good performances for the team in his absence.

The Trail Blazers won six games and lost four in Aminu’s absence.

Despite his absence, Aminu still holds the highest percentage of rebounds (8.1) and blocks (1.3) for his team.

Life-threatening diseases such as HIV, Ebola and Monkey Pox may be mild compared to other diseases outbreak that may occur if adequate expertise is not applied to conservation and management of wild primate.

This warning was given by a Professor of Primate Community Ecology, George Ogunjemite, while delivering the 92nd inaugural lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, on the topic Monkeys and Apes: Man in Its Reminiscence.

Professor Ogunjemite said man must handle primates and other mammals in his environment with utmost care to maintain quality of life and the peaceful co-existence of all living things and prevent catastrophic diseases and plaques that can debilitate the human race.

Similarities with humans
According to him, the remarkable genetic and physiological similarities between chimpanzee and humans explain why they may be easily affected by the same disease causative agents.

He cited the example of the HIV-1 and HIV-2, which are of zoonotic origin with their closest relatives in chimpanzee and related species.

Proffers solutions
Stressing that the threat of Ebola and Monkey Pox diseases are often products of disturbances of ecological balance in the environment, Ogunjemite further said for human not to encounter a far deadlier disease than the prevailing ones, everyone must develop strong commitment and love for the conservation of all other living resources.

On the way forward Ogunjemite proposed that primate-based eco-tourism should be encouraged for tourist enjoyment, thereby promoting opportunities to admire and support conservation of the species and other animals living within the forest.

He declared that non-human primates provide an important data source for understanding many aspects of human behaviour and physiology.

Ogunjemite, who was introduced by the Chairman of the event, FUTA’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, also suggested that saving reserves such as the one in Ifon, Ondo State, should be pursued because of its strategic location as an Ecotone for the forest and savannah ecologies of South-West region.

He said the reserve harbours a high number of primate species of rainforest and savannah ecosystem.

A few days after the son of a former PDP Chairman was stabbed to death by his wife, another man has been stabbed by his wife during a quarrel.

A few days after Bilyaminu Bello, the son of former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Haliru Bello, was stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam Sanda, another man who incidentally bears the same name, Bilyaminu Yusuf, has suffered the same fate.

The new incident, according to Hausa news portal, Rariya, happened in Gusau, Zamfara State where it was reported that Yusuf was stabbed by his wife, Murjanatu, during a quarrel in their home at the Tudun Wada area of Gusau.

It was gathered that Yusuf and Murjanatu got into an argument over a yet to be ascertained issue and in the heat of the moment, she broke a bottle and stabbed him several times on the head and chest.

Yusuf was said to have been rushed to the Gusau General Hospital where doctors have been battling to save his life.

Murjanatu, according to the report, has since been arrested by the police where she is being detained while an investigation has commenced in earnest.

A woman in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State has stabbed her husband in his chest with a broken bottle.

This is happening few days after a woman stabbed her husband in his chest in Abuja which has caused outburst on social media.

Sexual Harassment: How men who are victims can speak out

There are ways for men to speak about sexual harassment without being mocked by other men.

When men get sexually harassed and molested they hide in a shell of silence, most times refusing to speak about it.

While women are afraid of being shamed and judged if they open up about sexual abuse or harassment, men are afraid of being ridiculed by their peers.

Nothing hurts more for a man to be made fun of by his friends because he is too ‘soft’ or a ‘crybaby’. They would rather suffer in silence than speak to someone about what they are going through.

This attitude has stopped many men from speaking up about sexual harassment or molestation from peers, superiors, lovers and even spouses. The hurt, pain and confusion are bottled up inside till it becomes toxic.

It might still be a long time before men come out in public and talk about these issues but there are ways for them to express themselves without the fear of them looking weak or soft.

 

Men who are going through sexual harassment or have experienced it can talk to a very close friend. This should not be a random friend that you met a viewing centre. It should be a close friend who has known you for quite a while and will listen to you without judgement or reservations.

Talking to a close friend eases the tension a bit and helps you unburden some of that mental load that you have been carrying out for a while.

Apart from speaking to a close male friend, you can also talk to a female friend. Women are more sympathetic to these things and the average woman has faced more sexual harassment than a man.

Another option is to speak to a professional. Guidance counsellors and psychiatrist are professionally equipped to handle what you are going through. They don’t come free but it is better to pay and get good mental health than to suffer in silence.
