The story that makes this movie a movie is an overwhelming hilarious fiber for a romantic comedy.
Seven reasons that make Ufuoma McDermott’s movie worth your time are explained below:
A very short review.
1. This movie will help you burn some calories.
Yes, good dosage of laughter burns calories. The story that makes this movie a movie is an overwhelming hilarious fiber for a romantic comedy. It’s such a simple yet laughter inducing story.
Right from the scene one to the very last scene, serious scenes are comically presented. Lesson one: Learn to laugh; it’d save your soul.
2. Despite a bad beginning, Henri moves on with the day.
She tries her best to put things right despite the awkward circumstances that keep popping up every single moment. All of this is a build up to the Christmas day. What happens on this singular work day sets the tone for the rest of the days leading to December 25th.
Henri shows a strength of character with her “the show must go on” attitude. Her bad day leads to December 25th, the most memorable day of her life. Here is the second thing we take away from the movie, no matter what happens to you, show your circumstances that you are tougher.
3. Another part of the story that exudes an important lesson is where it is revealed that Lola is deliberately sabotaging Henri’s effort at making a great presentation.
Lola expects to be promoted because her immediate boss, Osas is sleeping with her. Osas, in fury shouts at Lola, making her realize the reason Henri is promoted in place of her. “You would never be a leader without a team spirit.” This beautiful line from Osas is one of the best quotes from the movie. This quote shows how responsible Henri is in the office.
She knows her job well, she is a team player and a problem solver. These are the reasons she is promoted and asked to do the presentation. Lesson three: learn to be a team player.
4. There are many romantic scenes that adorn this movie (that’s why its’ called romantic comedy anyway) but there is a scene in which Henri verbalizes the fact that she is falling in love with Koko Williams, the CEO of the company.
She says: “Everything stops when I hear his voice.” This goes to show that Henri is a noble soul, capable of loving. And she is not just in love with Koko alone, she also loves her friends. She forgives them for all the troubles they bring to her, after all their troubles have also fetched her love.
It’s that same love that makes them organize the December 25th party. Lesson four: Learn to love. Only love fetches love.
5. You need to see this movie because it will teach you bravery.
Henri is in love but it’s her friends that encourage her to go for what she wants. And they do not just ask her to go for love, they follow her to break into love’s heavily guarded compound.
6. This movie is the early harbinger of the spirit of Christmas
7. To find other very important lessons, see the movie yourself.
