WARRI—District Governor of Rotary Club International, District 9141 Nigeria, Mr Ikponmwosa Ogiemudia, has said that Rotary International decided to embark on the planting of trees in Delta State in order for the environment and its inhabitants to get enough oxygen as well as curb natural disasters.
Ogiemudia made the explanation after launching the tree planting campaign at Ubeji, Dom Domingos College and Demonstration Secondary School, in Warri, as part of his four-day official visit to Rotary Clubs in Delta Central and South senatorial districts of the state.
He noted that the exercise was to let the upcoming generation know that the future was in their hands.
The District 9141 Governor, who handed starter packs to 13 women trained in Fashion and Design, Hairdressing as well as make-up, courtesy of Rotary Club of Warri, visited Osubi Community Health Centre being constructed by Rotary Club of Osubi and promised that WAEC fees for 21 students of Opete Secondary School, Enerhen will be paid by the district.
Set of furniture was also donated to Opete Primary School, Enerhen in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state by Rotary Club of Effurun, GRA during the visit.
Ogiemudia also commissioned erected road signs along Ebrumede (DSC) Roundabout, DSC Expressway and Agbarho-Ughelli High way.
The road signs were executed by Zones 5 and 6 of Rotary Club under the District 9141.
He admonished Rotarians to always do their best to ensure the safety of road users and appealed to motorists to always obey traffic signs in order to remain alive, just as he undertook a tour of Rotary Club of Effurun Vocational Centre, Ebrumede.
