China To Empower Visually-Impaired Persons In Lagos

Lagos – The Chinese Women Association in Nigeria, acting under the ‘China-Africa People-to- People Friendship Action’, would, on Saturday, November 17, donate items worth N12 million to persons with visual impairment in Lagos.

Mrs. Zhou Jun, the association’s president, said in Lagos that the donation would be made by them and Consulate General of China in Lagos to the Bethesda Home for the Blind, Surulere.

Zhou said that the consulate and the association had been supporting other orphanage and vulnerable persons in different communities in Lagos.

“On Saturday, November 17, the Chinese Women Association in Nigeria would donate items worth N12 million to the Bethesda Home for the Blind in Surulere.

“This project is one of the ‘China-Africa People-to People Friendship Actions’, being funded by the Consulate of China in Lagos and implemented by the Chinese Women Association this year.

“We have before now donated whatever each orphanage or home needed. Chinese companies have been very supportive by giving us these items, she said.

According to her, the ‘China-Africa People-to- People Friendship Actions’ is launched every year to promote friendship between China and Africa.

She said that it was also meant to promote integration of Chinese associations with the local community, local development of education, culture, health and medical care.

The president listed the items to be donated to include power-generating sets, refrigerators, musical instruments, bags, drums, chairs and tables, cooking utensils, rich tissues, bed-sheets, and digital voice recorders.

Zhou, who said that about 12 different projects had been implemented by the association since 2016, added that the gesture was to promote more friendly and development relations between Nigeria and China.

“China and Nigeria are two friendly countries, and we believe in the survival and development of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“These donations are meant to assist orphanages and vulnerable groups in our host communities.

“We as a Chinese community in Lagos, Nigeria, will continue to show our love and responsibilities, obligation to orphanages, the blind and other disadvantaged persons,’’ she said.
