Nurmagomedov challenges Mayweather to clash

Mixed martial arts fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken a page out of Conor McGregor’s playbook and issued a challenge to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather.

Nurmagomedov’s challenge came in a video posted on Instagram by Mayweather’s promoter Leonard Ellerbe who indicated he ran into the UFC fighter at a fight card in Russia.

“Letâ€s go Floyd. We have to fight now: 50-0 versus 27-0,” Nurmagomedov said with Ellerbe standing next to him smiling. “We are two guys who never lose. In the jungle there is only one king. Of course, I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I drop him easily. Letâ€s go.”

Nurmagomedov did not say whether he wished to fight Mayweather in a boxing or UFC match. Like McGregor, the Russian has no previous experience as a professional boxer.

McGregor made millions last year by taking on Mayweather in lopsided boxing match. Mayweather appeared to toy with McGregor in the early rounds before stopping the Irishman in the 10th to improve to 50-0.

Last weekend, Nurmagomedov retained his UFC lightweight crown, beating McGregor by fourth-round submission.

He then climbed out of the Octagon to fight with a member of McGregor’s entourage who had been taunting him. McGregor also took some punches from members of Nurmagomedov’s team.

Heineken Lagos Fashion Week is the leading event on the African Fashion calendar, attracting thousands of fashion experts, enthusiasts and media across the continent and beyond. This seasons event will feature over 50 designers showcasing their Spring/Summer 2019 collections as well as the Fashion Business Series, #LagosFWRetail in partnership with #SheTrades, Visual Makers Fellowship with Canon, Green Access Showcase with Fayrouz x Garment Care and Heineken Live Your Music After Party.

The Heineken Lagos Fashion Week press cocktail took place on the 11th of October 2018 to announce plans for this yearâ€s event.  The cocktail began with a short message by Obabiyi Fagade, Senior Brand Manager Heineken, reiterating Heinekenâ€s commitment to inspiring African consumers to break boundaries through the LFW platform. When Vice President Yemi Osinbajo called for the sack and arrest of former DSS DG, Lawal Daura, Nigerians celebrated, considering the Acting President also called for the reform of the entire Police force, especially the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, afterwards declared a nationwide reform of the Police Force and asked that SARS Operatives be taken off the roads and only act when there are reports/information of a robbery case.

But…it now seems that we have moved from one problem to another one.

Over the weekend, it was the case of Anita Akapson who was shot dead in front of her house on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Maitama, Abuja, by men of the Nigerian Police Force.

There are no details yet, as we await a response from the family of the deceased. However, the Police have responded in a statement. Read below:

IGP has ordered the detention and investigation of Policemen involved in the incident that led to the death of Miss Anita Akapson.

He deeply commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures them that justice will be done in the matter.

The Inspector General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to immediately detain and personally carry out a thorough investigation of policemen involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Miss Anita Akapson at Katampe Extension, Abuja on the night of Saturday, October 13, 2018; and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The IGP deeply commiserate with the family of the deceased and hereby assure them that justice will be done in the matter. The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command is already in touch with the family as directed by the Inspector General of Police.

The public will be informed of the outcome of investigations into the incident.

6,609,115 Lagosians Eligible To Vote In 2019, Says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State  said  6, 609, 115  residents were eligible to vote in the 2019 General Elections in the state.

Mr. Sam Olumekun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner  disclosed this  at a  workshop on Lagos State Election Security Strategic Plan for 2019 Elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop was organised by Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP) in collaboration with INEC in Lagos State.

Prince Adelani Asade, the Administrative Secretary of the commission delivered Olumekunâ€s speech at the workshop.

Lagos state has  245 Registration Areas (Wards), 8,462 polling units, and 3669 voting points across the 20 Local Governments of the state and  Olumekun agreed  that  security is key to holding a successful election.

“6, 609, 115 eligible Nigerians registered to vote during the 2019 general elections in the state.

� I am profoundly grateful to NPP for organising this very important and timely workshop on elections security considering the role of good security structure in the conducting a peaceful and successful general elections in 2019.

� It is crucial to say that with 91 political parties and about 74 million voters geared to take informed decision and action at the general elections in 2019, the security of election officials, materials, and the electorate is of utmost importance to the commission.

“Indeed, security is key to the conduct of credible elections. INEC in Lagos is truly proud of partnering with NPP at this most auspicious time in the electoral cycle, � Olumekun said.

The INEC commissioner  commended the NPP and hoped that the workshop would give the commission the opportunity to review, reflect, brainstorm, and re-engineer its security structure and strategy.

He added that the commissionâ€s proactiveness on security, had informed regular meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election security where matters concerning security before, during and after elections were discussed.

Olumekun said INEC would improve on the conduct of elections in 2019.

In his goodwill message, the representative of NPP, Mr Emeka Ukaotu said that INEC would need to develop its election security management plan.

According to him, some factors  needed to be considered  by INEC in developing the plan. These  include relevant intelligence and information about locations and assessment of vulnerability.

He urged  INEC to  also consider previous history of electoral offences or allegations associated with the geographical area.

Ukaotu said the commission should also consider the potential for offences to be committed as a result of lack of policing, ill-prepared local authority, complacency and political culture.

NAN reports that some of the  topics at the three-day workshop included: “Importance of Security Threat Analysis in Strategic Planning� and “Identification and Mapping of Peculiar Election Security Threats Across Lagos�.
