A group of Lagosians under the aegis of Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguard said it has commenced a three million man-match in the three senatorial districts of the state in support of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration.
The march is planned to attract one million people in each of the senatorial districts of the state.
Coordinator of the group, Mr Seyi Bamigbade, while speaking with journalists on Monday, said the group also led scores of Muslims in the state at the weekend to hold special prayers for the success of the present administration, pointing out that it was the group’s desire for the governor to be reelected for a second term in office.
According to him, the prayer session led by the President, Council of Imams and Alfas, Imam Khidir Olojeola, was organised to offer prayer for the governor and seek the support of the Muslim community for his second year in office of Ambode.
Bamigbade explained that the three million man march for good governance and support for Ambode to continue in office was organized by different groups under the aegis of Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguards.
According to him, Governor Ambode needs the payer of Lagosians, saying the match took place at the three senatorial districts with one million in each senatorial district of Lagos State to show support and appreciation to the governor for not disappointing the All Progressives Congress and Lagosians as a whole.
Also speaking at the prayer session, the member representing Epe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade, urged the group to ensure sustenance of the transformation agenda of Lagos State.
He pointed out that the state had been blessed with good leaders who had passion for making life easy for the residents, adding that “all we need is to support them with prayers.”
Commenting on the prayer session, Imam Olojeola said the first term of Governor Ambode was characterised by series of laudable projects, including improved road infrastructure, schools’ upgrade, improving the healthcare sector, and massive investment in the security apparatus in the state.
He said the Muslim community also used the occasion to pray for continued peaceful co-existence in the state as well as the overall progress of the country, expressing optimism that with Governor Ambode on the saddle as helmsman, the state would grow in leaps and bounds in the midst of economic challenges across the country.
“There is still a lot of work to be done in the state, but Governor Ambode has started on a very sound footing despite the economic challenges in the country.”

Taraba state, one of the less recognized states in Nigeria, was created from the now defunct Gongola.
The state derived its name from the Taraba River which crosses the southern part of the state, and both the river and the state are rightly called “Nature’s Gift to the Nation.” Endowed with diverse and rich topography, Taraba truly deserves to be called “Nature’s gift to the Nation”.
Check out these 2 sights you should visit in Taraba state
1. Mambila Plateau – The plateau which comprises mountain chain of Adamawa, Obudu, Shebshi and Alantika is over 6000 ft. above sea level. It is said that the undulating landscape is free of insects.
The plateau is considered as the highest point in Nigeria and probably in Africa and as soon as you reach the top of the mountain, the hot weather witnessed at the foot of the mountain disappears as you are welcomed to a fresh and very chilled breeze blowing across the plateau.
2. Gashaka-Gumti Game Reserve – This is Nigeria’s largest national park. This area which covers about 6600 sq. km is important not only as a major watershed but also as a haven for a rich and exotic assemblage of wildlife, given its strategic location at the interface between the moist Cameroonian Highland and the dry Sub-Saharan Guinea Savannah.
If you want to see a wild dog or a giant eland, then you should visit the Northern Gumti sector. This reserve parades the largest and richest reserve south of the Sahara. It contains various flora and fauna with varied bird viewing possibilities.

The competition eventually returned in 2017 following the donation of a new basketball arena by former Senate President David Mark who is the sole sponsor of Mark d’Ball.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition could not hold in December 2016 following an eviction notice served on the organisers to vacate the premises used for the event.
The competition eventually returned in 2017 following the donation of a new basketball arena by former Senate President David Mark who is the sole sponsor of Mark d’Ball.
Some of the food vendors who spoke to NAN expressed appreciation to the organisers saying that their businesses thrived in 2017 compared to 2016 when the event couldn’t hold.
A vendor, Mrs Gloria Samuel, said she sold a quarter bag of rice every day. This, she said excluded what she makes from selling other foodstuffs.
“Some days I go home with N50,000 and at times N45,000. I always rely on this competition (Mark d’Ball) to prepare for the New Year.
“Last year (2016) December was tough because the competition didn’t hold; planning for the New Year was difficult for my family but I thank God things are normal again,” she said.
She commended the organisers of the competition and pleaded for it to be sustained.
Another vendor who specialised in preparing indomie noodles with egg, but only gave his name as Simeon, told NAN that he enjoyed celebrating his Christmas in Otukpo because of the brisk business during Mark d’Ball.
“I am from Plateau State. In the last five years, I have been going home on Jan. 1 because I wait till the end of Mark d’Ball.
“I couldn’t travel last year (2016) Christmas because Mark d’Ball didn’t hold and I didn’t have enough money to spend when I travel.
“In fact, I have already called my people that I am coming on New Year day because I know I can take care of expenses at home this time around,” Simeon said.
Simeon who sold a plate of two indomie noodles packs and two eggs for N350 said he sold up to four cartons every day.
Mr Malik Adejoh, the manager of Leach Hotel situated in the Government Reserved Area of Otukpo, did not hide his joy for the competition, as his hotel rooms were fully booked.
“Mark d’Ball is one tournament we rely on every year to make up for the lost periods during the year.
“I have managed this hotel for about 15 years and I can tell you what we have benefitted from this competition. People come from different parts of the country to lodge here.
“I have some basketball teams and Nigerian artists that are lodging in this hotel and we also hosted the “Miss Idoma” beauty pageant in this arena.
“As I am talking to you now, we don’t have any room that is free; they have all been booked until Mark d’Ball comes to a close on Dec. 31 night, and this happens every year apart from 2016.
“I know what we lost when it didn’t hold in 2016 but I thank God we are here again,” Adejoh said.
NAN reports that Mark d’Ball is a sports and entertainment event that brings Nigeria’s most exciting basketball teams, comedians and musicians to perform live in Otukpo.
Famous musicians Majek Fashek, Tuface Idibia, Terry G, P-Square, Ambassador Wahala, Aboki for Christ, Fred Bright and Chuks the General are some of the entertainers that performed at Mark d‘Ball events.
Others are Ice Prince, Tekno, Okey Bakassi, Ibu, Pastor Nicodemus and Klint da drunk.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that there is a chance Mesut Ozil could face Chelsea in Wednesday’s Premier League clash.
Ozil missed Arsenal’s 1-1 away draw against West Brom due to a slight knee injury.
“At the moment our injury list is quite long,” Wenger said in his press conference on Tuesday. “We lost Kolasinac, Koscielny in the game [at West Brom]. The two who have a little chance.
“Ozil might have a test this morning. Koscielny is 30-70 available.
“We have a squad that is equipped to deal with injuries – we’ve shown that in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup… but we cannot lose any more players now.”
Wenger expressed his desire to keep Alexis Sanchez and Ozil but dismissed talk of being afraid of losing them.
“I want them to stay,” he said. “Why should I be scared? This club has lost many big players and responded well. But you want to keep your best players.
“We have not lost them yet and [if we do] we will respond by bringing in players of top quality.”
The French manager went on to debunk claims that Arsenal are targeting Chelsea’s David Luiz.
“These reports are wrong.”
On the possibility of Arsenal doing business in the January transfer window, Wenger insists that there is a good chance they could bring in new faces.
“We are out there and look to do some things, yes.
“But when, that is very difficult to say because it does not depend only on us.”
And on Manchester City slipping up after they escaped with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park: “If Manchester City keep going as they have done, they have shown signs of being less dominant. One of the teams behind need to have a perfect run and they [City] need to collapse a bit.”

Nigeria would have approximately 20,210 babies born into the country on the New Year’s day.
This represents the third largest population of newborns in the world on Jan. 1, 2018, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said.
UNICEF also said nearly 386,000 babies would be born worldwide on New Year’s Day, representing some 90 per cent in less developed regions.
The agency reported that Kiribati’s Christmas Island in the Pacific would most likely welcome 2018’s first baby while the U.S., its last.
Globally, over half of these births are estimated to take place in nine countries, according to UNICEF.
These are: India, 69,070; China, 44,760; Nigeria, 20,210; Pakistan, 14,910; Indonesia, 13,370; United States, 11,280; Democratic Republic of Congo, 9,400; Ethiopia, 9,020; and Bangladesh, 8,370.
While many babies would survive, some would not make it past their first day, UNICEF said.
Stefan Peterson, UNICEF’s Chief of Health, said on Monday that the agency was challenging nations around the world to make sure more newborns survive their first days of life.
“This New Year, UNICEF’s resolution is to help give every child more than an hour, more than a day, more than a month – more than survival,” Peterson said.
In 2016, an estimated 2,600 children died within the first 24 hours every day of the year, according to the UN agency.
UNICEF said that for almost two million newborns, their first week was also their last.
In all, 2.6 million children died before the end of their first month, the global children’s agency disclosed.
UNICEF said more than 80 per cent of the children died from preventable and treatable causes such as premature birth, complications during delivery, and infections like sepsis and pneumonia.
Peterson stressed: “We call on governments and partners to join the fight to save millions of children’s lives by providing proven, low-cost solutions.”
Over the past two decades, the world has seen unprecedented progress in child survival, halving the number of children worldwide who die before their fifth birthday to 5.6 million in 2016.
But in spite of these advances, there has been slower progress for newborns, UNICEF noted adding, babies dying in the first month account for 46 per cent of all deaths among children under five.
In February 2018, UNICEF would launch ‘Every Child Alive,’ a global campaign to demand and deliver affordable, quality health care solutions for every mother and newborn.
These include a steady supply of clean water and electricity at health facilities, the presence of a skilled health attendant during birth, disinfecting the umbilical cord, breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, and skin-to-skin contact between the mother and child.
“We are now entering the era when all the world’s newborns should have the opportunity to see the 22nd century,” Peterson added.
Unfortunately, nearly half of the children born this year likely will not, the UNICEF official regretted.
“A child born in Sweden in January 2018 is most likely to live to 2100, while a child from Somalia would be unlikely to live beyond 2075,” he lamented.

The death toll now includes an 11-year-old boy.
More than twenty people have died after another bloody night of protests in Iran added nine people to the death toll.
State TV in Iran reported the nine additional fatalities on Tuesday morning, according to the Associated Press. They include an 11-year-old boy and a member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
According to the broadcast, a focus of violence was a police station in Qahdarijan in Isfahan province, which protesters allegedly tried to raid to steal guns.
The demonstrations, the largest to strike Iran since a disputed presidential election in 2009, have seen six days of unrest across the country and a death toll of at least 20.
The state TV report said an 11-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed in the town of Khomeinishahr, while a member of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard was killed in the town of Najafabad. It says all three were shot by hunting rifles, which are common in the Iranian countryside.
The towns are all in Iran's central Isfahan province, some 215 miles south of Tehran, the capital.
The protests began Thursday in Mashhad over Iran's weak economy and a jump in food prices and have expanded to several cities, with some protesters chanting against the government and the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hundreds of people have been arrested.
It wasn't clear whether the Revolutionary Guard member was the same fatality report late Monday night by Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency. Mehr had said an assailant using a hunting rifle killed a policeman and wounded three others in Najafabad.
Monday marked the first night to see a fatality among Iran's security forces.
President Hassan Rouhani has acknowledged the public's anger over the Islamic Republic's flagging economy, though he and others warned that the government wouldn't hesitate to crack down on those it considers lawbreakers.
That was echoed Monday by judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani, who urged authorities to confront rioters, state TV reported.
"I demand all prosecutors across the country to get involved and the approach should be strong," he said.

Alfred Martins, Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, has called on law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to rescue reverend sisters abducted in Edo State in November.
Martins, at a news conference in Lagos on Monday, said it was dangerous for the sisters, being women, to still be in the hands of their captors after 48 days.
Three reverend sisters and three aspirants were kidnapped by gunmen on November 14, 2017 from the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (EHJ) Convent in Iguoriakhi, Edo State.
The archbishop condemned the increasing spate of kidnapping in the country.
“Today is the 48th day that the sisters have been in the hands of the kidnappers.
“It has been a big source of worry and concern knowing that they are women,” Martins said.
He said the Benin archdiocese had been making efforts, in collaboration with the security agencies as well as the state government, to secure their release.
“It is really disheartening that in spite of all these efforts, the sisters are still there in bondage.
“It is disheartening that the security agencies have not been able to get the sisters out, and one wonders why this is the case.
“We still do hope that the security agencies would do much more than is being done now to ensure that the sisters are released,” he said.
