Wellness: Here is what your sitting posture says about you

What your sitting posture says about you

According to psychologists, the sitting position of a person talks a lot about their intentions and personality.

There is no doubting the fact that different people have different sitting posture.

And in most cases, our style of sitting can vary as per our surroundings and mood.

However, there are specific styles of sitting that are particular to every individual. And this adopted style is not necessarily limited to the nature of our mood.

According to psychologists, the sitting position of a person talks a lot about their intentions and personality.

It reveals our hidden instincts and wishes.

And even if you don’t realize it, you are probably getting signals from the body language of those around you.

Experts have even gone further to claim that even if your words are friendly and open, a poor body language can make you seem dishonest or uninterested.

Therefore, it is important to know that posture is part of our body language. And your posture reveals a lot about who you are and what you’re thinking.

Unknown to many people, this is one great technique used by interviewers to know about a person’s personality.

So if you really want to know how to interpret other people's poses and tweak your own posture for a first-class impression, read on to see what these common sitting positions really mean:

Here are five sitting positions and their meaning

1. Sitting erect

It is said that in eight out of ten cases, people who sit with their legs straight are often neat and intelligent.

They are also quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences.

Also, sitting with straight legs is a sign that you’d rather keep your feelings to yourself than get involved in conflict.

Nevertheless, people with this sitting position can be quite tense but they are ever ready to take actions should necessity demands it.

2. Sitting with crossed legs

Psychologists claim that crossing your legs while sitting can be a bold statement that says you’re into the person you’re cozying up to.

However, it is also believed that People who cross their legs are more artistic in nature. These set of people often have strange and creative ideas that cause others to think in a different way because they are likely to have a powerful imagination.

3. Armrest while sitting

Although there are very few people with this sitting position, it doesn’t take away the fact that they can be seen here and there.

People who regularly rely on arm rest while sitting has been identified as the shaky type who needs to find a way to steady themselves.

However, this is not applicable to girl bosses; because they're naturally at ease and in control. They do not need to steady themselves.

4. Clasping hands while sitting

People don’t usually clasp their hands while sitting. But when they do, it can be interpreted as a sign of attempting to be extra polite.

However, psychologists claim that it can also be a sign that you are lying and trying very hard to be pleasing.

5. Sitting with legs angled at one side

This sitting position is most common among the female folks. And it is said to be a sign that suggests that these people are believers of time and place.

In other words, they believe that everything has its time and place.

More often, these people set the goals and work very hard to achieve them. It is more like a priority for them to establish their education and career before moving on to anything else.

In addition, appearances are important to these ones and they dress very nice to put up a very good look.

Ethnicity, religious crisis may destabilise Nigeria, Clerics warn

By Rotimi Ojomoyela

Ado Ekiti—Prominent religious leaders in Ekiti State, have expressed worry over the way ethnicity and religion are being used to set Nigerians against themselves, warning that the country may end up being destabilized.

They appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to be decisive in the fight against those threatening the sovereignty of the nation.

The President, League of Imams and Alfas in the Southwest, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Jamiu Kewulere, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ekiti chapter, Pastor Rotimi Orikogbe said these in Ado Ekiti yesterday during an interdenominational service held by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti Council.

The CAN boss lamented what he called senseless killings in Kwara, Benue and Rivers State.

He said: ”Our value system had degenerated and that is why you see people, particularly politicians hiding under ethnicity and religion to perpetrate evil.

“Our situation has degenerated to a level where national interest is being fatally wounded by these two issues that had gained traction in the minds of our people.

“I am tasking the new NUJ exco in Ekiti to be united and love one another to be able to make progress. Don’t allow money to influence your positions, because you are the mirror of the society.”

On his part, the Chief Imam advised the federal government to put a machinery in motion to ensure that every Nigerian can exercise his rights wherever he lives without fear of molestation.

He said: “We thank God that religious and ethnic problems are not prominent in Ekiti. All the religious leaders interrelated freely in Ekiti State.

“It is wrong and not in the interest of Almighty Allah for people to kill in the name of religion. Allah is our creator and he won’t be happy when people were killed indiscriminately.’’

The NUJ, Ekiti Council Chairman, Mr.RotimiOjomoyela, promised that he would commence a process of reconciliation to placate those who felt aggrieved about the outcome of the union’s election held last year December.

Asisat Oshoala

Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on Thursday emerged as the African Player of the Year 2017, with Super Falcons’ Asisat Oshoala being named the Women’s Player of the Year.

The 25-year old Salah and 23-year-old Oshoala won the topmost prize at the Aiteo CAF Awards Gala 2017, held at the International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana.

Salah fended off opposition from clubmate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was winner in 2015.

He became the first Egyptian to win the most prestigious individual honour in African football, after polling 625 points.

According to reports of the event on the website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mane had 507, while Aubameyang finished a distant third with 311 points.

The feat capped a superb year for the forward who played an influential role for both club and country during the year under review.

Salah’s feat was the climax of a memorable evening for Egyptian football which saw the Pharaohs being named National Team of the Year.

However, Kgatlana took consolation in Banyana Banyana being named Women’s National Team of the Year.

Patson Daka ensured Zambia was represented on the podium with the Youth Player of the Year award.

It came 10 years after compatriot Clifford Mulenga was decorated Most Promising Talent of the Year.

African club champions Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) of Morocco went home with the Club of the Year award.

Former Ghana player Ibrahim Sunday, who was a member of the Asante Kotoko squad which won the African Cup of Champion Clubs in 1970, received the CAF Legend award.

There were two Platinum Awards, one to Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo and the other to global football icon George Weah, now President-elect of Liberia.

Serena Pulls Out Of Australian Open

Serena

Serena Williams reluctantly pulled out of this year’s Australian Open on Friday, saying she needed more time to be ready to defend her title.

She said while she was close to regaining full fitness after giving birth to her first child in September, she was not fully ready to defend her title.

The 36-year-old was eight weeks pregnant last year when she triumphed for a seventh time at Melbourne Park to claim an Open-era record 23rd Grand Slam title.

The American then took the rest of the year off before giving birth to a daughter.

She has played just once in public since, losing to French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in Abu Dhabi last week.

But she was still hopeful of making a remarkable return at the Australian Open until she admitted defeat a week ahead of the event.

“My coach and team always said ‘only go to tournaments when you are prepared to go all the way’.

“I can compete – but I don’t want to just compete, I want to do far better than that and to do so, I will need a little more time,” Williams said in a statement.

Williams had told Vogue magazine last August about her “outrageous plan” to defend her title.

But the short turnaround after giving birth has proven too much for even the greatest player of her generation.

Williams, whose Grand Slam tally is just one shy of the all-time record held by Australian Margaret Court, said she was disappointed to withdraw but looked forward to returning in the future.

“After competing in Abu Dhabi I realised that although I am super close, I‘m not where I personally want to be,” Williams added.

“With that being said, and even though I am disappointed about it, I’ve decided not to compete in the Australian Open this year.”

Tournament director Craig Tiley called Williams’ efforts to try and be ready for a title defence at the Australian Open “Herculean” and said she transcended the sport.

“It was never going to be good enough for her to just compete, she wants to give herself the best chance to win,” Tiley said.

“I’ve been in constant contact with Serena and her team and know this is why she has pushed it and pushed it until the eleventh hour to make her final decision.”

Williams is the latest big name to withdraw from the year’s opening Grand Slam, which will be played from Jan. 15 to Jan. 28.

Britain’s Andy Murray (hip) and Japan’s Kei Nishikori (wrist) having already said they would not compete.

There is also uncertainty over whether former champions Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka and Rafa Nadal, the latter of which arrived in Melbourne earlier on Friday, will be fit to take to the court.

How to get your pastor’s 2018 prophecies to work for you

Find out how you can finally get all of your preacher's prophetic insights to finally come to pass in your life.

Its the beginning of the year 2018 and as usual the prophecies are in.

Now, the question becomes how to get them to work for you, to come to pass in your life.

It's one thing to shout Amen in the church as you get each year’s prophecies and its a totally different thing to see them manifest in your life.

The answer is actually simple. You just have to make yourself open to receiving them.

Remember the parable of the sower found in Matthew 13:1–23, Mark 4:1–20, and Luke 8:1–15? The sower threw seed, some fell on the path (wayside), on rocky ground, among thorns, and on the good earth.

We all know that the good earth was only that got to enjoy the seed long term. So, the question you should be asking is if you are good soil? Do you have the faith it takes to see these prophecies come true?

Are you willing to wait on God, to seek Him with all of your heart, not just for the prophecies, but for Him too?

ALSO READ: 5 tough questions Christians need to ask themselves in 2018

You have to be as hungry for God as you are hungry for these 2018 prophecies.

In 2018, while we wait and shout Amen as we wait on these prophecies, let's do our own best too.

Remember faith without works is dead!

Buhari To Upgrade Nigerian Railway System To World Class Standard

railway, Buhari, fuel scarcity, Urhobo

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Thursday, called on the support of members of the National Assembly and stakeholders in his resolve to reposition the railway system in the country.

Buhari, who made this appeal during the commissioning of the new train coaches at the Rigasa Train Station, in Kaduna, restated the resolve of the Federal government to upgrade the Nigerian railway system to world class standard.

The President said the resolve is not only a statement of intentions, but a benchmark which “we are using to measure the performance of our administration” and therefore, solicited for the support of all relevant stakeholders, especially the National Assembly and development partners to realise the objectives.

According to him, “Let me recall that I commissioned and flagged off the Abuja-Kaduna train service in July last year, which was Nigeria’s first ever outstanding train service.

“I am glad that this service has become very useful to commuters and has even become the preferred form of transport for the commuters for the journey between Abuja and Kaduna.

“You may want to recall that during the commissioning in 2016, I restated our resolve to rigorously pursue development in Nigeria through the implementation of the 25 year strategic Railway Master Plan.

“Other important projects which have been approved is the procurement of more locomotives, coaches, workshops and equipment that will be used for new standard gauge lines by way of encouraging private sector participation in our railway development.

“Negotiations for concession of the narrow gauge railways with a consortium, is in progress. We are looking forward to a more efficient train service on the narrow gauge lines to be driven by the private sector.

“It is on the basis of this, that we are creating a more conducive environment for the private sector, especially by strengthening our legal and regular trade frameworks.

“Let me once again reassure Nigerians that we are strongly committed to linking all major commercial and production centers as well as state capitals with railway system, as a way of bringing about rapid socio economic development and improving the lives of our people as well as encourage national integration.”

Meanwhile, a female journalist with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was brutalized by security operatives at the venue of commissioning of the Kaduna Dry Port.

The journalist, Taye Elebiyo Edeni, a Transport Correspondent accredited from Abuja to cover the commissioning of the rail project was said to have been brutalized by policemen whereby, she sustained injuries.

The unfortunate incident happened at the main venue of the commissioning of the Dry Port, Down Quarters, Kakuri, ahead of the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari and his entourage.

The attack on journalists was heightened after security denied them access to the main venue despite having their accreditation tags.

Kachikwu: NNPC records N85.5B loss on petrol importation – Minister

Minister says he didn't write any memo to Buhari

Kachikwu said the price was fixed in the first quarter of 2016, when crude oil was selling for $49 and said with crude price rising to $67 a barrel, pump price may change.

The Minister of State For Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu on Thursday said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has incurred a cumulative loss of N85.5 billion in importing petrol and selling at the current retail price of N145 per litre.

Kachikwu said the price was fixed in the first quarter of 2016, when crude oil was selling for $49 and pointed out that with crude price rising to $67 a barrel, the pump price, may no longer be sustainable.

Kachickwu made the explanation to the National Assembly joint committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).

According to Kachikwu, the landing cost of PMS which was N133.28 per litre in 2016, is now N171 per litre, which has resulted into stoppage of importation of the product by independent marketers.

This, he said had made the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to be the 100 per cent importer of the product.

The minister disclosed further that as a result of the N26 difference per litre between the current landing cost of the product ( N171) and pump price of N145, NNPC which had been singularly importing the product at the volume of 25million litres per day since October last year, has been incurring a daily loss of about N800-N900million, cumulatively reaching N85.5billion today, in just three months.

According to him, already government has mandated him and along with a committee set up to find ways out of the problem which he said requires emergency of about 18 months before the local refineries are expected to be in good shape.

He said three solutions are being considered.

” One , is for the Central bank of Nigeria ( CBN) to allow the marketers access forex at the rate of N204 to a dollar as against the official rate of N305 to keep the pump price of fuel per litre at N145.

” Two , to give room for modulated deregulation where NNPC would be allowed to continue selling at N145 per litre in all its mega stations across the country while the independent marketers should be allowed to sell at whatever price is profitable to them in all their outlets.

” Three, to look at the direction of blanket subsidy for all the importers in bridging the gap which would be like going back to a problem that had earlier been solved “, he said .

He, however, stressed that the final solution to the problem was for the nation to put her refineries in good shape in a way that 80 per cent of local consumption of the product should be provided for locally.

In his submission , the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr Baru Maikanti said the just ended fuel scarcity was caused by combination of factors ranging from diversion of the product from depots by tanker drivers to neighbouring countries where it sold between N300 to N400 per litre to outright hoarding of the product by unscrupulous marketers at home.

According to him, the NNPC had prior to the scarcity, had 1.9billion litres in reserve, which was emptied as a result of panic buying arising from rumour earlier made on social media about price increase , the one day strike action embarked upon by PENGASSAN, hoarding and diversion by some dubious players in the sector .

On his part, Director General of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Dantani Ladan, revealed that most of the filling stations in the country were found wanting in hoarding and diversion during the scarcity.

He said some of the stations’ personnel who were involved in storing of the petroleum project had been arrested.

While calling on the general public to contact the agency with any useful information on anyone hoarding fuel, he disclosed that, the agency had charged individual marketers to comply with Government pump price.

For now NNPC is the sole distributor, individual marketers can help and one marketer has been charged 127 million for going against the rules”

In his closing remarks, the Chairman of the joint committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa said the various submissions made by all the stakeholders would be looked into.

He called for an urgent solution to resolve the wide gap existing between the current landing cost and the pump price .

Politics: Press critics question the accuracy of claims in Michael Wolff's explosive new Trump book

michael wolff

Longtime media provacateur Michael Wolff published a new book based on months of access to the Trump White House.

  • Longtime media critic Michael Wolff published a new book based on months of access to the Trump White House.
  • Wolff has been a notorious figure in media circles for years, publishing scathing criticisms of companies and media figures.

Michael Wolff, a man who has practically built a career on pissing people off, found himself in the biggest media firestorm of his career this week.

On Wednesday, Wolff's new book about President Donald Trump, which was written following months of exclusive access to key administration players, was published in part in several news outlets.

The excerpts contained a number of stunning anecdotes about the transition and first months of the administration, including passages that question Trump's memory and mental health, describe media mogul Rupert Murdoch's declaration that Trump is a "f—ing idiot," and detail former White House political chief Steve Bannon's criticism of Trump family members including Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

Trump allies have spent the past two days trashing Wolff and the book.

Trump's lawyers sent Wolff a cease-and-desist letter, saying some of the claims made in the book about the president were libelous. During a press conference on Thursday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders repeatedly denied numerous claims in the book.

"There are numerous mistakes. But I'm not going to waste my time or the country's time going page by page and talking about a book that is complete fantasy and just full of tabloid gossip," Sanders said. "It is sad and pathetic. And our administration and focus will be more on moving the country forward."

The Republican National Committee on Wednesday blasted out a 2004 New Republic feature which argued that Wolff often appeared to embellish details.

Wolff is no stranger to controversy.

A longtime New York media fixture

A longtime New York media fixture, Wolff built a reputation over his career as a blunt media critic at New York Magazine and USA Today with industry reports and prognostications that have been at times prescient and at times off-base.

Where once his rants about media figures and Manhattan lunch habits earned him the label of "It Boy of New York Media," his list of curmudgeonly complaints about top figures has added up over the years.

He complained about top New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman's stories about the Trump administration, argued liberal blogger Andrew Sullivan didn't have a sense of humor, and said Times columnist Maureen Dowd's writing style was informed by her supposed inability to nail down a man.

"I have a certain combination of fearlessness and foolishness," he told the Washington Post in 2001. "I don't really care. I will say anything."

Questions about accuracy

But while many critics of Wolffs in the mid-2000s lamented his personality, skeptics of his new book were most acutely concerned about his journalistic accuracy.

Splinter's David Uberti pointed out that press critics repeatedly questioned the specifics in Wolff's 1998 book "Burn Rate," and that in his scathing review of Wolff's book about media mogul Rupert Murdoch, former New York Times media columnist David Carr said Wolff "never distinguished himself as a reporter" and was "far less circumspect" than other journalists.

Journalists were also skeptical of Wolff's claim that Trump didn't seem to remember who former House Speaker John Boehner was, considering he'd previously commented about Boehner in public at length.

Others like NBC's Katy Tur pointed out that the book's author note left wiggle room for some embellishment, noting that some of the conversations appeared to be recreations.

Others shared personal stories about their bizarre and negative experiences with Wolff when he ran Adweek during the late 2000's.

For his part, though, Wolff has stayed largely mum on the book, and some evidence has emerged that could vindicate some of his claims.

Axios reported that Wolff had hours of taped interviews, including some with Bannon and former White House deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh.

Further, he appeared un-cowed by Trump's threat of a lawsuit, instead pushing up the book's release date by four days in select stores.

Tech: Google and Amazon say the performance hit from the 'Meltdown' and 'Spectre' fixes is overblown (MSFT, AMZN, GOOG, GOOGL)

null

The lead cloud provider, Amazon, said on Thursday that it did not expect performance to be severely impacted.

  • Techies are going crazy after "Meltdown" and "Spectre," two new methods for stealing passwords, were revealed by Google on Wednesday.
  • One worry was that the fix for the problems could come with a major negative impact on performance.
  • Google and Amazon say they're not seeing any major slowdowns.

On Wednesday, Google revealed that there's a big security hole in pretty much every processor, including the one in your phone, the one in your laptop, and the processors running servers "in the cloud."

The two vulnerabilities, "Spectre" and "Meltdown," could even allow an attacker to steal passwords as a user typed them. Even worse, early speculation suggested that the fix for the two related but separate problems, "Spectre" and "Meltdown," could cause a major performance hit as the CPU would have had to do lots of extra work just to stay secure — maybe even reducing performance by 30%, according to The Register, which first reported the flaw.

Google now says all of that gloom and doom is overstated.

In a technical blog post published on Thursday, Google says the software it built to fix the issue — it calls it KPTI — causes "negligible impact on performance."

Here's the key passage:

There has been speculation that the deployment of KPTI causes significant performance slowdowns. Performance can vary, as the impact of the KPTI mitigations depends on the rate of system calls made by an application. On most of our workloads, including our cloud infrastructure, we see negligible impact on performance.

In our own testing, we have found that microbenchmarks can show an exaggerated impact. Of course, Google recommends thorough testing in your environment before deployment; we cannot guarantee any particular performance or operational impact.

Basically: Google's not stressing about any impact to performance, and it believes that the performance hits that other analysts are seeing were conducted without the right data, leading to an "exaggerated impact."

Of course, Google's findings are only applicable to Google's cloud and services, which run on Google's version of Linux, presumably on an Intel processor.

But Google's findings are based on data from some real-deal, heavy-duty services that would be dramatically impacted by a major decrease in performance, including Gmail, Search, and YouTube.

Amazon also says all-clear

The lead cloud provider, Amazon, also said on Thursday that it did not expect performance to be severely impacted.

"We don’t expect meaningful performance impact for most customer workloads," an AWS representative told Business Insider. "There may end up being cases that are workload or OS specific that experience more of a performance impact. In those isolated cases, we will work with customers to mitigate any impact."

Amazon said on Wednesday that it had already protected its customers from nearly all AWS instances from the vulnerabilities.

Although Microsoft hasn't yet commented on what performance slowdowns it expects, its Azure service will also be closely watched to see if there are any impacts to processor performance. On Wednesday, it said it was in the process of implementing fixes.

Tech: This substance lets you 'walk on water' — here's how it works

null

This substance is a mix of water and cornstarch, and It demonstrates the properties of non-Newtonian fluids. It's like these people are 'walking on water!'

Turns out, walking on water isn't as impossible as it might sound — as long as you have the right kind of water. Following is a transcript of the video.

These people are "walking on water." The substance is a mix of water and cornstarch. The mixture is two parts cornstarch to one part water. It demonstrates the properties of non-Newtonian fluids. Non-Newtonian fluids are solid if you apply a sudden force and liquid if you apply a steady, slow force.

How can something be a solid and a liquid? In the mix, there are tiny cornstarch particles evenly distributed. When a steady slow force is applied, the particles have time to move out of the way. So the object slides through, as it would in a liquid. When a sudden force is applied, the particles don't have time to move out of the way. So the object is stopped, as it would be on solid surface.

What makes non-Newtonian fluids unique is viscosity. Viscosity is the rate at which fluid flows. Common fluids, like water, have a consistent viscosity, so they flow the same regardless of what force you apply. In Non-Newtonian fluids, viscosity can change. Apply a sudden force, and the viscosity rapidly increases, forming a semisolid surface.

What can you do on a non-Newtonian fluid pool? Jump. Bike. Flip. Whatever you do, just keep applying high force, or you'll sink right in!

Tech: Silicon Valley elites can't get enough of dangerous, untreated 'raw water' — here's why it's a bad idea

null

A Silicon Valley startup is charging more than $60 for jugs of spring water that hasn't been treated. That's a dangerous idea.

  • People in San Francisco are spending upwards of $60 for a 2.5 gallon glass jug of "fresh, live spring water."
  • The water isn't filtered or treated, which means it could harbor microbial viruses and bacteria that cause disease and deadly diarrhea.
  • American tap water isn't perfectly clean, but it's tested to stricter health standards than bottled water.

The founders of a company called Live Water, which sells unfiltered, untreated water in glass containers, want customers to believe that tap water is just too "dead."

Founder Mukhande Singh told the The New York Times that those who drink the regulated H2O that comes out of kitchen taps, public water fountains, and garden hoses are "drinking toilet water with birth control drugs in them."

In San Francisco, his idea has gathered quite a following: the water is regularly sold out in grocery stores and people are spending more than $1 per glass to the drink water that's never been treated.

The company warns consumers on its site: "Consult your health care provider before making a decision to switch your drinking water source." But food safety experts tell Business Insider it’s a terrible idea to drink untreated water.

Why can unfiltered water be dangerous?

There are billions of people around the world living a "raw" water lifestyle right now. And it’s not very glamorous.

Chemicals like lead, microbes from feces (both animal and human), pesticide runoff, and underground waste are just some of the global threats to clean drinking water.

The US water system isn't perfect. A 2009 New York Times investigation found there was enough arsenic in the water in some parts of Texas, Arizona and Nevada to contribute to cancer.

But American drinking water does pretty well when stacked up against other countries where citizens might drink from less-than-ideally-filtered sources. The World Health Organization says dirty drinking water kills half a million people every year, and at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with feces.

Guzzling from fresh mountain streams won't solve these problems. Clear mountain sources can infect hikers with the parasite Giardia, while another tiny, one-celled parasite called cryptosporidia can be deadly for people with compromised immune systems, and cause weeks of watery diarrhea for everyone else. Cryptospordium can infect a person even if they ingest a single bacterium.

How the US treats water

In the US, The Environmental Protection Agency is required to enforce The Safe Drinking Water Act. Passed in 1974, the federal law regulates over 90 contaminants in tap water. Most big cities are constantly monitoring their water supplies. In New York City in 2016, the Department of Environmental Protection tested more than 51,500 water samples.

Live Water says it tested a few of its own samples from its spring source in Oregon. Those vials came back negative for Legionella and other illness-causing contaminants, but the tests the company used were not performed up to federal regulatory compliance standards. Singh and his company also tout the health benefits of their spring water, but the single scientific research paper that they cite isn't about drinking water at all: it refers to the healing effects of spring water for rabbit wounds.

The Live Water team also says that their water is infused with some good stuff that tap water doesn't have. "Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium are the four primary electrolytes that maintain the body’s fluid balance. LIVE WATER is abundant in each," the company writes on its website.

Physicians who’ve studied the mineral content in tap water in 21 major cities across North America say most of our tap water already has a healthy amount of calcium, magnesium and sodium. In many locations, tap water contains enough to provide up to 8% of a person’s daily dietary reference intake, if they’re well hydrated.

Live Water did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why is there fluoride in tap water?

The raw water evangelists told The Times that fluoride in tap water is "a mind-control drug that has no benefit to our dental health."

There's no evidence to support this. But fluoride, which is often naturally present at low levels in water, has been added in to some tap water for decades to help prevent cavities. The EPA regulates these levels to make sure the concentrations aren’t too high. (Kids under 8 can get too much fluoride, which can cause some cosmetic discoloration of teeth.)

What about lead?

The complex web of rivers, lakes, reservoirs and groundwater sources that people in the US draw on to drink from isn't perfect. What happened in Flint, Michigan in 2014 is a textbook example of water resource management gone wrong.

The city switched its main water source from the Detroit to the Flint River to save some money. Lead that started leaking into the drinking supply from the pipes wasn’t properly treated, and smelly, colored water flowed into homes. According to The Atlantic, there has been both a spike in miscarriages and drop in birth rates in Flint since then.

Marc Edwards, one of the first engineers who studied the water problem in Flint, says there's no way to be completely sure you'll never get sick from drinking water: "It is not possible to achieve zero health risk, with any water at all," he wrote Business Insider in an email. But he says "most cities provide tap water to standards that pose very little health risk at reasonable cost."

There are a few things everyone can do to make sure that the water they're drinking is up to par. There’s an annual drinking water report from the EPA, as well as an independent tap water database available from the Environmental Working Group. If you're worried about how clean your water might be, you can use an NSF/ANSI-approved filter at home.

But for some Americans, indulging in unregulated water may be about more than staying hydrated and healthy. Edwards believes they might really be seeking out some kind of mystical "glacial purity" or a hidden "fountain of youth," while shunning what they perceive as more "poisoned water."

At that point, he says, a person's urge to avoid the tap is simply "beyond the ability of science to quantify."
