Her previous work was also set in the fictional universe of Binti. The project will also have illustrators, Tana Ford and James Devlin in a series which hopes to unravel the dark secret the future hides. It will also be published by Dark Horse Comics.

“After smuggling an illegal alien plant named “Let me Live through LaGuardia International and Interstellar Airport’s customs and security, she arrives at her grandmother’s tenement, the New Hope Apartments in the South Bronx.

“There, she and Let me become part of a growing population of mostly African and shape-shifting alien immigrants, battling against interrogation, discrimination and travel bans, as they try to make it in a new land. But, as the birth of her child nears, future begins to change. What dark secret is she hiding?

Nike 'deeply concerned' and Juventus shares drop amid Ronaldo rape claims

(FILES) In this file photo taken on June 30, 2018 Portugal's forward Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to his teams loss during the Russia 2018 World Cup round of 16 football match between Uruguay and Portugal at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi on June 30, 2018.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Portugal's next four internationals, the national coach Fernando Santos said on October 4, 2018, days after rape allegations against the Real Madrid star resurfaced.
/ AFP PHOTO / Odd ANDERSEN / RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE – NO MOBILE PUSH ALERTS/DOWNLOADS

US sportswear giant Nike says it is “deeply concerned” by rape allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo and shares in Italian champions Juventus fell over five percent on the Italian stock exchange on Friday.

Portuguese star Ronaldo is one of the world’s top athletes and boasts a number of lucrative sponsorship contracts.

But his relationship with Nike, which is rumoured to be worth $1 billion dollars (869 million euros), could be in jeopardy after police in Las Vegas announced this week they were reopening a rape case after allegations made by a former model, Kathryn Mayorga, relating to an incident in 2009.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” a Nike spokesman told AFP on Thursday.

According to Forbes magazine, Ronaldo is one of only three athletes to have been given a lifetime deal with Nike, joining an elite club that also includes NBA icons LeBron James and Michael Jordan.

EA Sports, for whom Ronaldo is a leading figure in their phenomenally successful FIFA video game market, also described the allegations as “concerning”.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA’s values,” the group said in a statement.

Juventus reaction criticised
Ronaldo’s move from Real Madrid to Juventus in the summer gave the Italian champions a huge boost, both on and off the field, as they continue their elusive bid for a first Champions League title since 1996. On September 20, shares rose 180 percent to a record level of over 1.80 euros.

But the Italian champions woke up to the sobering news on Friday that over five percent had been wiped off the value of their shares after the Milan stock exchange opened. At midday on Friday they were worth 1.25 euro a share.

Juventus have so far stood behind Ronaldo, but the Italian club’s reaction to the issue has angered some fans.

The Portuguese striker “has shown in recent months his great professionalism and dedication, which is appreciated by everyone at Juventus”, the club wrote on Twitter Thursday, breaking their silence over the allegations.

“The events allegedly dating back to almost 10 years ago do not change this opinion, which is shared by anyone who has come into contact with this great champion.”

Juventus later posted a video on YouTube and Twitter showing Ronaldo working up a sweat as he trained with his teammates for Saturday’s league game against Udinese.

“Juventus go for goal. Cristiano Ronaldo finds the target!” read the caption beside the video.

The defending Serie A champions’ tweets were widely panned on social media as “shockingly dismissive and insensitive”.

“You’d expect a more nuanced and sensitive approach from such a mega organisation,” said one tweet.

Ronaldo has vehemently denied the accusations.

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” he tweeted in English on Wednesday.

“Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

“My clear conscious (sic) will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations,” he added on his Twitter feed, which has 75 million followers.

Portugal said Thursday Ronaldo will play no part in the country’s next four internationals, but he was given backing from Portugal coach Fernando Santos and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes.

Asked about the allegations, Santos said. “I know Cristiano Ronaldo very well and I fully believe his word when he says he would never commit a crime like this.”

Gomes also spoke up for Ronaldo.

“I believe what he said… because I’ve known Ronaldo for many years and I can attest to his good character,” Gomes said.

Mayorga’s attorney Leslie Stovall told reporters his client had suffered years of trauma as a result of the alleged attack and found the courage to speak out thanks to the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and assault at the hands of powerful men.

Mayorga claims she was pressured into signing a non-disclosure agreement in 2010 to keep the alleged rape secret and is seeking at least $200,000 in penalties and damages.

World Teachers Day: Is there anything for the Nigerian Teacher to celebrate?

October 5 of every year has been designated as world teacher’s day by the United Nations Education and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) as a day to celebrate teachers and the invaluable service they offer worldwide.

The role of teachers in any society cannot be overemphasized. In fact, education is a two way interaction between the teachers and their students or pupils in the knowledge exchange chain. They provide a nurturing environment away from the home, instilling values in children and helping prepare them for the real world. However, on a day like this it is important we look inwards and ask ourselves what is the state of the Nigerian Teacher.

RELATED: This CNN story on Nigerian prostitutes forced to work the streets of Paris is alarming.

The state of education in Nigeria is abysmal, and by extension the state of Nigerian teachers has been a source of worry to everyone. Nigerian teachers have had to deal with hostile work environments, the necessary infrastructures to make teaching available are still missing. In 2018 we still have teachers carrying out their daily tasks in make shift buildings, in some situations, teachers are responsible for buying their biros, chalks, lesson notes and diary when none is provided by the government.

Under the current poor arrangement, some teachers are being paid by the parents through the (PTA) when salaries are not forthcoming from the government. Even when the salaries come, it is inadequate to pay their bills. On a day like this when other teachers across the world are celebrating, Nigerian teachers have made it a day to remind the government about the poor state of the teaching profession in the country of which the government is known to make vague promises about.

RELATED: Of the 57 men arrested in Lagos for being gay and the work that lies ahead for LGBTI acceptance in Africa

The state of the Nigerian teacher has led to brain drain in the education sector as graduates are no more interested in taking up the profession due to its poor working conditions and poor reward system. It is important government at all levels put in place the necessary mechanism to reposition education in Nigeria to benefit all its stake holders. They’ve given a lot to our National Development, we need to do a lot for them.

Public Disgrace: Hairdresser tries to pull out hair she made for 'slay queen' who refused to pay (Watch video)

Video: Slay queen doesn't pay, hairdresser pulls her hair out

The incident was captured on video by passersby.

It was a bright day in Ekpoma, Edo State on September 27, 2018 until a hairdresser made hair for a young woman who refused to pay.

All days for the thief, one day for the owner

The young woman, dubbed a ‘slay queen’ across the internet in the now viral video, published on news platform, Instablog9ja is seen dressed in an orange gown, with a grey sweater tied around her waist, while the supposed hairdresser was dressed in a charcoal grey sweatpants, stripped on the side with black lines and a red crop top, that revealed her black underwear.

She seemed so determined to pull the braided hair she had made for the ‘slay queen’ who was basically trying to stop her from pulling the hair straight from her scalp — which could be dangerous for her scalp, it could bleed, that it felt like her anger was one she had bottled in for a while.

Atiku: An inch away from PDP presidential ticket

AtikuIn life, no season remains forever and similarly, situations also change one after another. When a storm emerges in an ocean, it creates violent wind and heavy rain, sometimes, causing a dreadful disaster but after some time there prevail a reign of calmness. Though the storm disturbs the man’s life, it will not remain for a long period as it soon disappears and calmness prevails everywhere.

This is the story of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa and the most powerful vice president Nigeria has ever produced. Though Atiku is easily the most prepared among all those who have sought or are still seeking the nation’s presidency in the last decade, his ambition has been repeatedly frustrated by persons who feel threatened by his profile.

Anytime he announced his intention to become president of Nigeria, his traducers will derisively ask : what exactly does Atiku want? Why is he so desperate to become president? Must he be president?

But not anymore. Things have now changed with many Atiku detractors shocked at the momentum his current effort to win next year’s presidential poll has started gathering.

An objective analyst would see that the key indicators to determine who flies the Peoples Democratic Party’s flag at next year’s poll lie more on how their campaigns have progressed in the last few months; how their popularity have been perceived and how their messages have resonated with the people.

Although pundits have predicted a keen contest between Atiku, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at tomorrow’s convention scheduled to hold in PortHacourt, a close look at the situation reveals the clear edge that the former number two citizen has over 13 other aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket in almost every area of assessment.

This conclusion stems not just from the way Atiku has managed to project himself to a level in which he is seen as capable and well-prepared for the task ahead, but also because the messages of other contenders are not well received by the people.

First, his submissions on restructuring and fiscal federalism have been applauded as a timely wake up call, since his words bear close resemblance to the aspirations of the citizenry, who have for long yearned for a new Nigeria.

From grapevine, many hints on the likely outcome of Saturday’s presidential primary are emerging. Some governors of the PDP are receptive to Atiku’s aspiration because they see him as the only one with the capacity to rebuild the party and ensure that it takes over power in 2019. A deal has reportedly been struck in this direction.

Beyond what may be playing out in the realm of underground politics, the political situation in the north is clearly cloudy. Political loyalty is shifting very fast. The harsh economic situation means unconscious political reappraisal.

Indeed it is no longer news that in the northern part of the country, many are uncomfortable with the grinding paralysis that have come to signpost President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic programmes.

As much as the downtrodden in the North love Buhari, there is a gradual realignment targeting Atiku who they see as a likely new successor amenable to welfare politics and inclusive governance.

As a prelude to an elaborate campaign that will kick off after the primary election, Atiku’s media handlers have already put out art print adverts, world class jingles, and have held town hall meetings that communicate the strength of his party and his popularity to Nigerians.

The reality is that Atiku’s edge over all other aspirants in both the traditional and the new media has a lot to do with the consistency of his campaign strategy and richness of his meetings, visitations and town hall meetings.

But by far the most outstanding of Atiku’s communications strategy is the rich manifesto which addresses all the challenges currently confronting the country. No document from any aspirant within the PDP can match Atiku’s manifesto in terms of concept, content and creativity.

The same edge is seen on the social media where the Wazirin Adamawa is a household name. The import of this is that VP Atiku is by far more popular and more acceptable to the people.

It is also impossible to ignore the successes recorded by Atiku even before his foray into politics. A quintessential businessman and industrialist, with hard, wide network cutting across various sectors of our national life, Atiku has created several hundreds of thousands of jobs to many poor Nigerians. This gives Atiku a competitive edge in tomorrow’s contest.

While Atiku made reference to visible achievements to his name during his nationwide consultations and town hall meetings, other aspirants made big promises, sometimes pledging to build bridges where rivers do not exist.

That Atiku literally ran the first four years of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration gives the former vice president a head start in this contest.

At the Customs, Atiku stamped his seal of excellence. The groundbreaking achievements that the then Department of Customs recorded in terms of increased revenue generation for the nation speak volumes of the competence of the PDP presidential aspirant.

As a team player, he never shirked responsibility nor abdicate his chosen path of greatness. Humble, unassuming, articulate and trustworthy, Atiku often brings to his job a selfless disposition that thrust him up for greater service to God and humanity.

This disposition is consistent with the yearning of Nigerians from all facets of our national life-to raise the bar in public service and sustenance of a legacy of honour.
