I’ll win PDP primary, move ahead to become next Lagos governor ― Agbaje

AgbajeGOVERNORSHIP aspirant on the platform of Lagos State chapter of  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, has expressed confidence that he would win the party’s governorship primary holding at Oregun area of the state also move ahead to become the next Lagos governor, saying he would not have thrown himself into the race if he was not sure of victory.

This was just as he said that his party stood to reap some benefits from the fallout of primary held by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where former commissioner in the state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emerged as the party’s candidate, defeating the incumbent, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

“I believe I will win and will not be running this race if I don’t believe that,” Agbaje said.

Agbaje is contesting the party ticket with a fellow party chieftain, Engnr. Adedeji Doherty.

Agbaje said this while speaking with newsmen in an interview at the venue of the party primary, where over 2,500 delegates were gathered to vote their choice.

The PDP chieftain, who was the party’s governorship candidate in 2015, expressed the belief that Nigeria as a country and Lagos can do a lot better than they were doing currently, adding that a lot of people looked at Lagos like it was the best thing in the world.

According to him, Lagos can be the best in Nigeria but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“We have a much larger delegates population so managing a crowd of over 2,500 is not very easy. I believe our country can do a lot better than we are doing right now and I believe that Lagos State can even be better than it is.

“A lot of people look at Lagos like it is the best thing in the world, we can be the best in Nigeria but there is still a lot of room for improvement and I believe that we can make more giants strides,” he said.

Agbaje, however, said achieving this meant that leaders and the led must all give and must all ensure they practise what they preached, declaring that it must be about service, which required that one gives his best.

“When you tell the younger ones not to give up you must practise what you preach. It is not about giving up, it is about service and when we talk about the service you give in your best,” Agbaje.

Speaking further, Agbaje, while responding to a question, said the best way to address youth unemployment was for the government to improve quality education to meet up with the 21st Century standards.

“It is important to improve on the quality of our education in the state to meet up with the 21st Century. By the time we address education properly a man who collects salary can give a proper account of his income, he will have no fear about his children, health. These are some of the basic things that must be addressed,” he said.

UN blasts India's deportation of Rohingya to Myanmar

The UN voiced alarm Friday over India’s deportation of seven Rohingya men to Myanmar despite warnings they could face persecution in a country where the military is accused of genocide against the Muslim minority.

The UN refugee agency said it was “greatly concerned” for the safety and security of the seven men who were returned to Myanmar from India on Thursday.

The men, who had been in detention for immigration offences since 2012, were handed over to Myanmar authorities at a border crossing in India’s northeast state of Manipur.

Before their deportation, the United Nations had expressed concern that returning the men ignored the danger they faced in Myanmar, where for decades the Rohingya have been targeted in violent pogroms by security forces.

UNHCR said the Indian authorities had not responded to its request that they assess the men’s claims to international refugee protection in the country.

“UNHCR regrets that the agency did not receive a response to this request and was unable to secure access for a lawyer from a state legal service,” agency spokesman Andrej Mahecic told reporters in Geneva.

Refoulement laws
“UNHCR continues to seek clarifications from the authorities on the circumstances under which these individuals were returned to Myanmar,” he said.

He said the UN agency was “concerned that they did not have access to legal counsel, were not given the chance to access asylum processing and have their claims assessed in India.”

The UN special rapporteur on racism, Tendayi Achiume, warned India on Tuesday that it risked breaking international laws on refoulement — the return of refugees or asylum seekers to a country where they could be harmed.

The Rohingya are despised by many in Buddhist-majority Myanmar, which refuses to recognise them as citizens and falsely labels them “Bengali” illegal immigrants.

They were concentrated in Rakhine state, the epicentre of a Myanmar army offensive that over the past year has driven some 720,000 Rohingya Muslims into Bangladesh.

While Myanmar and Bangladesh have agreed to repatriate the Rohingya, the process has stalled as Rohingya refugees fear returning to their homes without guarantees of safety and rights.

An assessment done by the UNHCR and UNDP — the UN’s development arm — shows conditions are “not conducive” for a “safe, dignified and sustainable return”, UNHCR’s Mahecic said.

While there were some villagers who “restarted interactions” with the Muslim community, there is still “mistrust and fears” between the two.

A second phase was launched Friday morning in the townships of Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathedaung — all sites of atrocities allegedly spearheaded by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya.

The army has denied nearly all wrongdoing, insisting its campaign was justified to root out Rohingya insurgents.

But a UN fact-finding mission said there was enough evidence to merit prosecution of several top Myanmar military commanders for crimes against humanity and genocide against Rohingya civilians.

New Delhi considers the Rohingya a security threat, pointing to intelligence which it says links the minority group to extremist organisations.

The government had ordered last year that all Rohingya inside India — New Delhi puts the figure at 40,000 — be deported.

The Supreme Court is considering a petition challenging the order as unconstitutional.

The UNHCR said Friday there are 18,000 Rohingya refugees and asylum seekers registered with the agency in India.

Getting Laid! Top 5 best places to have a quickie

Top 5 best places to have a quickie

Ever thought about having a quickie in an elevator or in your parent's bedroom?

Having spontaneous sex can be super fast and incredibly fun – it’s called a quickie.

Getting it on with a time limit can leave you and your partner flushed, stimulated and wanting more. Below are some great places to go when you want to get busy asap.

1. Neighbour's pool

Sex in the water is super fun, and it can feel extra naughty when you get busy in your neighbour’s pool while they’re gone. If you like the idea of possibly getting caught, plan to do it when they’ve gone off to the store or are just running errands. If you definitely don’t want to get caught, choose a time that they’re staying somewhere for a day or two.

ALSO READ: This is the right way to penetrate like a gentleman

2. Getting jiggy on the bathroom floor

Having a quickie on the bathroom floor is great because it will make you feel sexy, dirty and a little raunchy! Even more so if you’re doing it at a friend’s house. Make sure the bathroom is clean though – either lay down a blanket of some kind or use standing sex positions.

3. In an empty bedroom at a friend’s party

If you’re at a party and are feeling a little tipsy, your inhibitions are definitely down. It’s a perfect time to take advantage of your need to feel a little risque, so grab your partner and head to an empty bedroom or closet at a friend’s party. If it’s a wild party, you can pretty much guarantee that there are other people all over the house doing the exact same thing.

4. On the staircase of a serviced apartment

This is probably one of the best places to get busy on the fly. It has everything you need – good seating, handrails if you get really wild. Most people take the elevator in apartments, so if you sneak into the stairways, you’re unlikely to get caught. It’s even less likely you’ll get caught if you pick a time where almost everyone is in bed.

5. In your car

Find an isolated place to park your car, but in a safe area, and have her climb on top of you. Even better: ask her not to wear underwear and sport a skirt to make it as easy as possible.
