2019: Okowa Urges Support Groups To Redouble Efforts

Oleh – Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has tasked all support groups seeking for his reelection in 2019 not to relent but redouble their effort to ensure that victory is achieved at the end of the day.

Governor Okowa, who stated this at the Oshimili South Arcade, Asaba, during the launching and flag-off of Okowa For Real Support Group, said the efforts of the group were being felt in the political circles across the state.

Okowa, who was represented by his Senior Political Adviser, Festus Ochonogor, thanked Obi Nzete for piloting the affairs of the group, which he acknowledged was well known in the state.

He said Nzete’s vision to canvass support for his reelection through the Okowa For Real Support Group was laudable and had been taken to the next level of development under his leadership.

Governor Okowa urged all PDP support groups working for his reelection not to relent  in canvassing support, assuring that his second term would enable him do more and consolidate on his numerous achievements.

The governor also commended members of the Delta State chapter of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Union for their efforts in revenue generation in the State and expressed happiness over the group’s strong advocacy for his reelection

The state PDP chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, said the Okowa administration had recorded success in all sectors of the state’s economy such as road infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment and skill acquisition, peace and security as well as sports development among others.

He said the Okowa For Real Support Group was already working tirelessly for the reelection of the governor in 2019 in the twenty five local government areas of the state, stressing that the mass defection of members of the opposition APC to the PDP showed that the APC was already sinking.

Esiso urged Deltans to collect their permanent voter cards and vote for the PDP as the opposition had nothing to offer and commended Chief Obi  Nzete for championing the reelection of the governor through the Okowa for Real support group.

Okorocha Inaugurates Committee To Relocate Traders In Owerri

Okorocha,Dapchi schoolgirls

OWERRI – Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Imo State governor, has inaugurated a 25-member joint committee on the relocation of traders in Owerri municipality to an international modern market at Egbeada/Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Council Area.

The committee which has Mark Uchendu, the Secretary to the State Government, as chairman in a communiqué on streamlining the markets in the Owerri capital territory resolved that all markets in the municipality be streamlined along designated intentions of the government in setting up of such markets and along products and services rendered by the markets.

The committee is made up of representatives of the Office of the SSG, Ministry of Non-formal Sector and Market Development, Investors/Developers of Imo International modern market, Egbeada/Ubomiri, as well as those of market unions and associations in the state and task force on market development.

Uchendu, an Engineer who identified the 11 markets to be streamlined stated that in doing so, agreements were reached between the state government and investors/developers and the market association.

The agreements, he said, include that the relief market be designated market for food items only, that the Alaba market be designated as market for electrical and electronics, phones and phones accessories only.

In addition, he said that the Avu Market would be designated market for car dealers (Automobiles), spare parts dealers and Auto mechanics as originally conceived while the timber and allied market, Naze, be designated market for building materials and allied products along with the industrial market at Umuonyeali.

He said it was also agreed, “That all traders dealing on ceramics, tiles, plumbing and allied building materials at the Tetlow Road should immediately relocate to the timber and allied market, Naze, or the Industrial Market at Umuonyeali while all traders currently doing business at the Rotibi Street, Ihugba, School Road, Christ Church, Ekeonunwa, Iheanacho be asked to move to the Imo International Modern Market, Egbeada/Ubomiri.

“The relocation of the Ekeukwu Owerri Market has paved the way for traders to block the Douglas Road thereby forcing heavy duty vehicle to use roads that they are not authorised to use and this has destroyed most of these roads, he stated.

APC Crises : Oshiomhole Costing Party 5m Voters — Gov. Okorocha

Abuja – Embattled Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Thursday said since Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, came on board the party is losing almost five million voters because of anger and protest, saying he needs to be called to order.

He also said Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Leader, is ignorant of the crisis brewing within the party.

Okorocha said this in apparent reaction to Tinubu’s open support for Oshiomhole despite the grievances that has characterised the recent primary elections.

“Tinubu may be misinformed, if he is properly informed he will not say what Oshiomhole is doing is the right thing, Okorocha said.

According to the Imo governor, who doubles as chairman, Progressives Governors’ Forum, the party stands a chance of losing five million eligible persons who should have voted for APC in next year’s general election.

The governor’s visit to the presidency where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors may have been inspired by recent developments within the polity, where the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has shut out Okorocha’s bid to foist his son-in-law as the party’s candidate on Imo State.

It is being speculated that the NWC may revert back to the report of the Ahmed Gulak Committee, which conducted the initial primary that produced Senator Hope Uzodinma as the party’s governorship candidate for the state.

Tinubu had on Wednesday met with President Buhari, where he maintained support for the actions of Oshiomhole and advised the aggrieved aspirants in the recent primaries to take their failure in good fate.

The aggrieved governor told State House correspondents, “Gentlemen of the press, I am here to clear the air that the presidency is not behind what Oshiomhole is doing in some of the states and which has affected our party negatively; and from my understanding from Mr. President there is no such directive for Oshiomhole to do anything illegal or create any sort of injustice.

“So, Oshiomhole is on his own in this whole thing. There is no presidency’s support for him to refuse candidate, those who won elections and give wrong candidates who didn’t win election. This is the matter and I will simply say that he is not with the consent of the presidency, he is on his own.

“I also requested that Oshiomhole must learn to respect the rule of law and obey court orders where they apply. This issue of treating court orders as tissue papers must stop, it doesn’t reflect the image of our party, he must act quickly to fix the integrity of this party because his coming in ought to have brought joy into the party and not sadness.

Asked if the APC will disintegrate from Oshiomhole’s actions, he said, “Well, APC will not disintegrate for as long as the person, Muhammadu Buhari, is still the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and remains the leader of this party.

“But we cannot give that credit to the chairman. He cannot disintegrate this party, the party is still intact, just that many people are hurt. Since his inception and after this primaries, we are losing almost five million voters because of anger, protest everywhere and he needs to be called to order, he has to respect the rule of law, respect court orders and do the right thing – obey court orders where applicable and not turn himself into INECâ€.

Also asked if Oshiomhole goes ahead to present Hope Uzodinma as the bona fide candidate of the party in Imo, he said the party chairman dare not.

“He cannot be standing on Hope Uzodinma because that man did not win election, you cannot compare somebody who won 265,000 votes with somebody who won 7,000 votes.

“He (Hope Uzodinma) never won election and you cannot impose a candidate who is unacceptable to the people on the people. That is how serious the matter is now. So he (Oshiomhole) should do the right thing and I have advised him severally to do the right thing before he creates more disaffections in our party.

Asked what would be the implication for the party if Oshiomhole went ahead to present Uzodinma to INEC, he replied again, “He can’t! I don’t think the National Working Committee will do that because in the first place, the National Working Committee sent a 13-man delegation who conducted election and 12 of them signed proving that Uche Nwosu won the election with 265,000 votes as against Hope Uzodinma who got less than 7,000 votes; so they can’t do that.

“And there is a letter to that effect from the National Working Committee, saying Uche Nwosu won, there is a Certificate of Return given to Uche Nwosu, there is a police report saying Uche Nwosu, there is INEC report saying Uche Nwosu. So nobody can do that and if they do that that must be the worst imposition in the history of Nigeria.

The governor, however, wrote off insinuations that if things go astray, he will defect from the party to SDP.

“SDP? How can I build a house and leave it for someone else? I am in APC, I founded the APC, I gave the name APC and so this is our party and we must continue with the party and build the party for victory, he stated.

Again, earth tremor hits Abuja, ministry says no cause for panic

PHOTO: SHUTTLESTOCK

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development on Thursday assured Abuja residents that there was no cause for panic, following another report of Earth Tremor occurrence in Maitama District, Abuja.

Mr Ishaku Kigbu, Special Assistant to the Minister of State of the Ministry, made this known in a statement in Abuja.

He said the NGSA technical team were still conducting further assessment of the occurrence.

Kigbu said the tremor which lasted for a minute occurred at about 12.26p.m.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that vibration and movement of the earth occurred in September in Mpape and parts of Maitama District, Abuja.

“The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, an Agency of the ministry, saddled with the responsibility of such occurrence had despatched a technical team to the location for assessment.

“The report said that an internal response protocol was immediately activated, and relevant Government agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Capital Territory Administration and other stakeholders were informed.

“The preliminary findings indicated that the tremor occurred 12.26 p.m. around Panama Street in Maitama District, he said.

The minister’s aide said that after field evaluations, the NGSA determined that the intensity was about 3.0 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, which means it was felt indoors and lasted less than a minute.

He said that further inspections by the agency revealed that there was no structural damage.
