500 NYSC members obtain loan in Kano to settle up business-Coordinator

NYSC members

Alhaji Ladan Baba, the Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kano state says 500 corps members in the state were offered loan to establish their own business.

Baba disclosed this on Sunday in Kano while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of the graduation of 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream ll corps member’s Skills acquisition training.

He said the loan was through the scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED).

According to him, the 10-day training for the corps members, undergoing three weeks orientation in Karaye Local Government Area, was part of the Federal government efforts to make the youths self reliant.

The NYSC coordinator explained that after the training, the corps members would be provided with loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BoI) and Direct Credit Company Ltd.

“Recently, over 500 corps members were given loan to establish their own businesses and some are presently undergoing the process to obtain the loan”, Baba said.

Baba also said that more that 2,368 corps members posted to the state had participated in Agro allied, Food processing and preservation, Culture and Tourism and Cosmetology training.

“Others, he said were;Information and Communication Technology, Construction, Environment, Horticulture and Landscaping, Power and Energy, Education, Film Photography and Automobile.

The NYSC coordinator appealed to philanthropists, wealthy individuals and private organisations to construct skills acquisition centre at the orientation camp for the benefit of the state and the country in general.

He said the construction of such centre would enable the scheme train corps members and also the residents in the state on different trades.

Baba said the introduction of the skills acquisition programme during the three weeks orientation was to provide the youths with skills that could assist them to be self reliant after graduation..

“The programme is also contributing so much toward reduction of unemployment among the youth and also to make them depend less on government jobs.”

‘’Therefore, we are appealing to other wealthy individuals and private organisations to invest their wealth through the construction of the skills centre to benefit the youths in the state”.

Baba described the scheme as the best and major channel through which the youths could be empowered.

Speaking to the NAN, one of the corps members who recently passed out, Mr Thank-God John, from Benue, said he would remain in Kano, adding that he had established two Photography shops in Kano.

“It is as a result of the NYSC skills acquisition programme that I was able to get my photography training after which I was given loan to commence the business.

”With this business, I don’t think I am going back to my state except to visit my family and friends, I have employed other people who are working under me,” John said.

A female corps member from Ogun, Oshola Oluwa-Tosin, who also benefited from the training, pledged to remain in Kano after her service to train people on make-up.

By Salifu Usman, Abuja

Activities heralding the 36th edition of Federation of Public Service Games began last Thursday, December 7, 2017 with pre-games seminar for officials and team managers just as arrival of athletes, screening and accreditation that followed days later.

The formal opening ceremony will be performed this afternoon by Representative of President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside executive governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
No fewer than 6,500 athletes from various federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) are taking part in about 14 sporting events in a yearly tournament  introduced in 1980 with the aim of bringing civil servants together for mental fitness.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s ground breaking opening ceremony, FEPSGA president, Comrade Hassan Dahiru, said the games had already surpassed his expectation and those of so many people alike in view of its attendance record and commitment of Bauchi State government towards hitch free event.

He said they are happy to stage the 36th edition of the Games in Bauchi because of the fact that the state is the most peaceful state in the North Eastern part of the country and hailed the facilities for the games.
“The opening ceremony is tomorrow (today). We were expecting Mr president, Muhammadu Buhari to come and declare the event open, but we heard he will send somebody to perform the event on his behalf together with the host governor, Muhammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

“We are extremely grateful to the government and people of Bauchi State for their support in hosting the event here in Bauchi, under a peaceful atmosphere and standard facilities,” he said.

Receiving the executive members of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) that paid him a courtesy visit at the government house, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar reiterated the determination of his administration to continue promoting sports activities in the state.

He assured that the state government will do everything possible to surpass the FEPSGA record in the past and commended the foresight of the founding Fathers of the Games and urged the present executives to ensure its sustainability.

Strategy: I visited the quirky sandwich shop that beat out fine-dining joints to be named the best new restaurant in America — here's what it's like

Turkey and the Wolf's bologna sandwich is enormous.

When Bon Appétit announced its list of the best new restaurants, it named a quirky sandwich joint No. 1. Here's what it's like to visit Turkey and the Wolf.

  • Bon Appétit named the sandwich joint Turkey and the Wolf the best new restaurant in the US in 2017.
  • The decision to elevate the quirky, low-budget concept over other restaurants created some controversy.
  • Turkey and the Wolf is filled with '90s nostalgia, cheap cocktails, and an incredible fried bologna sandwich.

When Bon Appétit announced its list of America's best new restaurants for 2017, the No. 1 spot came as somewhat of a shock.

Instead of an elegant sit-down Italian restaurant or an upscale icon, the publication crowned Turkey and the Wolf — a sandwich joint in New Orleans where nothing costs more than $13 — the best new restaurant of the year.

"What they are offering — wildly inventive sandwiches, salads tossed with ingredients like pig's ear cracklin's, and cheeky snacks like homemade Bagel Bites — is as difficult to pull off as most tweezer-built dishes found at so-called serious restaurants," Andrew Knowlton wrote of the restaurant.

With such effusive praise for a restaurant famous for its fried bologna sandwiches, I knew I had to visit. So, on a recent trip to New Orleans, I decided to stop by Turkey and the Wolf to see if it lived up to the hype.

Turkey and the Wolf is located in a mostly residential neighborhood called Irish Channel, a few blocks off of busy Magazine Street.

It's a simple operation, with customers ordering at the counter and workers yelling to each other in the kitchen. We arrived right at opening time — 11 a.m. — to beat the crowd, but we weren't the only ones waiting outside when the doors opened.

The menu copies suburban childhood classics — bologna sandwiches, wedge salads, and tacos made with American cheese. With a wave of restaurants "elevating" various cultures' street food, Turkey and the Wolf is serving an updated version of the nutritionally empty foods that many Americans ate growing up in the '80s and '90s.

I ordered the fried bologna. It is one of the restaurant's best-known sandwiches, made with local bologna, shredded lettuce (or "shrettuce"), American cheese, and — the most revelatory addition — potato chips.

This is a monstrously thick sandwich. I basically had to unhinge my jaw to eat it, and I got mustard and mayo all over my face as I smashed the sandwich into my mouth. But the decadent combination of fried meat and American cheese, cut with the chips and hot mustard, was nothing less than heavenly.

My friend ordered the collard green melt, which Bon Appétit's Knowlton called the "best sandwich I’ve ever crammed into my mouth." The sandwich — served, like all Turkey and the Wolf sandwiches, on mismatched kids' plates — is on rye bread and made with slow-cooked collard greens, cole slaw, Swiss cheese, and pickled cherry pepper dressing.

The Reuben-esque sandwich partners the savory, Swiss-cheese-covered greens with a surprising punch from the pickled cherry pepper. I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best sandwich I've ever eaten — or even the best sandwich I ate at Turkey and the Wolf — but it was pretty damn good.

Beyond sandwiches, the wedge salad was enough to convince me that iceberg lettuce is due for a comeback. The crisp, over-sized wedge is covered with everything bagel "crunchy stuff," which I now believe should be a wedge salad standard.

Turkey and the Wolf also serves up cocktails, with prices topping out at $9. Intrigued by the combination of tequila, paprika, almond milk, and sweet potato syrup, I ordered the "Nothing Goes According to Plan," a tasty drink with an almost pumpkin-spice-like kick.

I also snuck a sip of my friend's refreshing and delicious E-Honda's Hundred Hand Slap, made with pecan vodka, satsuma shrub, and soda.

Halfway through my sandwich — plus sampling others' meals — I was stuffed. But, the food was so good that I pushed onward.

Turkey and the Wolf's sandwiches are pretty incredible. I ate the bologna sandwich a week ago, and I've thought about it almost every day since. I loved it so much, I made it my iPhone background. But, does a handful of tasty sandwiches mean that Turkey and the Wolf is actually the best new restaurant in America?

The thing that tips any restaurant towards or away from true greatness is its atmosphere — the experience as a whole. Many see the low-budget goofiness as part of Turkey and the Wolf's charm. Others believe the restaurant has received unearned praise with it tongue-in-cheek takes on childhood classics.

"If the ownership and staff of Turkey and the Wolf were to be replaced exclusively with black New Orleanians, it would hardly be interesting to most food publications," chef and writer Tunde Wey wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle. "Its kitsch would be deigned bad design; its off-kilter take on conventional staples would be judged too baroque and gauche; that charming laid-back service would be registered as rude and incompetent."

For some, Turkey and the Wolf's self-indulgent quirkiness inspires eye rolls. However, for people who embrace the '90s-inspired absurdity, it could very well be the best new restaurant in America.

I don't think that Turkey and the Wolf is the best restaurant in the country, but it did serve up the best bologna sandwich I've eaten in my life. If you're in New Orleans, it's well worth a visit. I'm already dreaming of a return trip of my own.

By Osa Okhomina,Yenagoa

Armed Soldiers on Saturday invaded the site of three Agip Oil wells shut down by angry Indigenes of Ikebiri community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area council of Bayelsa State.

The angry Ikebiri Indigenes had on Friday night shut down three Oil production well heads belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) over alleged neglect and refusal of the company to re-award the abandoned projects under the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU).

‎The pritesting Ikebiri Indigenes shut down We’ll heads 9, 14 and 11.

Leadership gathered yesterday that the armed soldiers from the Niger Delta Security Task Force code named Operation Delta Safe were immediately deployed and the oil wells were unlocked.

The ikebiri indigenes, numbering 60 and made up of Youths, women and elders, armed with placards with inscriptions such ” Enough is Enough: Ikebiri says No to Agop Neglect”, ” Stop divifde and rule,Give us our Qhuck Impact jobs” had at about 9pm locked down the Agip Oil wells at about 9pm on friday.

It was also gathered that though armed soldiers were deployed to unlock the locked oil wells about 12 hours lated on saturday, the Ikebiri indigenes have vowed to continue the dustroption of Agip facilities in the community‎.

The Chairman of the Ikebiri Community Development Committee (CDC), Comrade Timiondi Fabofirghe, told leadership on telephone, that the dustruption of Agip Oil production activity‎ was caused by the refusal of the company to reaward abadoned projects and include the community as beneficiaries of Quick Impact project in the absence of a GMoU.

Fabofighe said ” Yes, it is true that we shut down three Oil wells belonging to Agip. We have tried legal and peaceful means to prevail on the AGIP Oil company to sign a GMoU and they have refused. The GMoU provides that a project is sighted and completed. But with a GMoU expiration, the NAOC awarded Quick Impact jobs with the exclusion of Ikebiri.”

“When we approach them, they said it was too late for the community to demand Quick Impact jobs. But they did not inform us.All we are demanding is the ommedoate award of contract to complete the abadoned projects and the immeduate release of quick Impact jobs to the community.”

An indigene of the Community and the State Secetary of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Comrade Timi Igoli, while confirming the development, said instead of NAOC to discuss with the angry indigenes of the community, ” they invited the armed soldiers into the dispute. This was what led to the killing of seven indigenes in the ast during protest.”

” Ikebiri, which is rich in Oil and Gas have been neglected and cheated by Agip. The abadoned water project must be completed. The NAOC built a hospital at Ikebiri 1 without beds and equipment The patients now lie down on bare floor. ”

NPFL Invitational Offers CAF Campaigners, Ex-champs Final Rehearsal

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Invitational kicks off at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Monday and it will provide the six teams competing with the chance to have one final chance at oiling their machines before the competitive season begins in January.

NPFL champions Plateau United, last season’s runners-up MFM FC, seven-time champions Enyimba and currently AITEO Cup holders Akwa United will be joined by hosts and four-time champions Kano Pillars and the Super Eagles billed to participate in next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the pre-season tournament.

Prior to the NPFL Invitational, Akwa United, Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Plateau United and MFM have been very busy with pre-season games across the country. Title holders Plateau United have had an underwhelming performance in their pre-season games so far, losing to Kano Pillars and promoted Kwara United.

Akwa United, Enyimba, Kano Pillars and MFM have racked up decent results in pre-season and their managers will look to continue in same stead in this dress rehearsal before the season kicks off on 14 January.

TEST FOR NEW SIGNINGS

One of the managers, Paul Aigbogun, was recently appointed to take charge at Enyimba. It is a return for Aigbogun and he has the task of building a team to compete in the NPFL, AITEO Cup and CAF Confederation Cup next year. Already, the Peoples Elephant have brought in new players in Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Chinedu Udeagha, Abdulrahman Bashir, Austine Oladapo, Yinka Onaolapo, Wasiu Alalade as well as Ghanaian Farouk Mohammed.

Head coach of AITEO Cup winners, Abdu Maikaba, is already planning for the possible absence of his key players who could feature in the CHAN next month. Etim Matthew, Ajibola Otegbeye, Kelly Kester, Adesina Gata, Dennis Nya and Gabriel Wassa are among the new signings at the Promise Keepers.

MFM moved quick in the off-season to replace Stephen Odey with Victor Mbaoma from Remo Stars and the young striker is showing signs of promise as he scored three times in pre-season. Mbaoma’s teammate at Remo Stars, Oche Salefu also joined the Olukoya Boys but is doubtful for the opening game against Akwa United on Monday. The Olukoya Boys also have Wilfred Ammeh and ex-Warri Wolves striker Zinte Udeh for the tournament.

Kano Pillars are beginning to look like Enyimba as they added petite midfielder Nzube Anaezemba and Ibrahim Mustapha to their playing personnel. They already have ex-Enyimba players in Chinedu Udoji, Emmanuel Anyanwu, Sikiru Kamal and Idris Aloma.

Amos Gyang, Charles Henlong, Rafael Ayagwa, Tosin Omoyele, King Osanga, Ibrahim Akide and goalkeeper Okiemute Odah have all teamed up with the league champions for the new campaign. Surely there will be competition for places for some of Plateau United’s top performers as their head coach Kennedy Boboye seeks to find the right balance in their title defence and on the continent.

APPRAISAL TIME STARTS FOR NPFL CHAMPIONS & CAF CAMPAIGNERS?

Plateau United will begin to have the feel and pressure that comes with being champions of one of the most difficult championship in the world when they face Enyimba in the opening game of the tournament. The champions and Enyimba also have the Super Eagles to contend with in Group A of the NPFL Invitational.

The other two teams to represent Nigeria in CAF competitions Akwa United and MFM FC will go head to head on Monday in the second game of Matchday 1. Kano Pillars who have failed to hit the heights of 2012, 2013 and 2014 when they won the league complete Group B as one of the teams invited alongside the Super Eagles for the tournament.

PREPARATION FOR CHAN-BOUND SUPER EAGLES

Talk of the Super Eagles, they regroup for the first time since finishing as losing finalists at the WAFU Cup of Nations to Ghana in September. Their head coach Salisu Yusuf has named a 30-man squad for this tournament and at least 18 of the players will be drawn from the five clubs taking part in the NPFL Invitational.

The CHAN preparation for the Super Eagles starts as they have been drawn in Group C of the tournament alongside Libya, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea. Yusuf knows this will form a good test for his team ahead of the African championship in Morocco.

“This is a good opportunity for us to play in matches and see how the players will react,” Yusuf said.

Thousands protest in Jakarta against Trump's Jerusalem move

Thousands of Indonesian Muslims protested Sunday in Jakarta against US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in the latest global show of solidarity with the Palestinians.

Demonstrators many in white Islamic robes and skullcaps gathered outside the US embassy in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country to vent their anger against the unilateral decision.

Protesters carried Palestinian flags and banners saying “We are with the Palestinians” and “Pray for Palestine”.

The rally in Indonesia’s capital drew a crowd of at least 5,000 people, police said.

Trump’s move on Wednesday to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital upended decades of American diplomacy, causing an overwhelming global diplomatic backlash and sparking Palestinian protests and clashes with Israeli security forces.

The status of Jerusalem is deeply sensitive for Muslims, and protesters have taken to the streets in cities across the world following the policy shift.

Indonesian president Joko Widodo said Thursday he “condemned” Trump’s decision on Jerusalem, and ordered the US ambassador in Jakarta to be summoned over the move.

The Islamist Prosperous Justice Party, or PKS — which organised the Jakarta rally and several others around the country — slammed Trump’s decision as a declaration of “hostility to Muslims throughout the world.”

President Buhari participates in `One Planet Summit’ in Paris Tuesday

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari is to participate alongside over 50 world leaders in the One Planet Summit in Paris, France, on Dec. 12.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

He said that the summit was jointly being organised by the United Nations, the World Bank Group, and the French Government in partnership with non-governmental organizations.

According to Adesina, the summit which is concerned about reversing the negative effects of climate change, like Bloomberg Philanthropies, holds at the eco-friendly La Seine Musicale, situated on the picturesque Seguin Island in western Paris.

The presidential media aide, who quoted organizers of the event, said the main focus of the summit, with the theme, “Climate Change Financing”, would be to innovatively pool public and private finance “to support and accelerate our common efforts to fight climate change.”

““While recognising that all countries are affected by the effects of climate change under “One Planet” but some are more vulnerable, the summit seeks for tangible collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.’’

Adesina revealed that before heading for the Summit venue, the Nigerian leader would attend a lunch hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France for Heads of State and Governments at the Elysee Palace.

He disclosed that Buhari and other world leaders and participants would make presentations under four sub-themes namely: Scaling-up Finance for Climate Action; Greening Finance for Sustainable Business; Accelerating Local and Regional Climate Action; and Strengthening Policies for Ecological and Inclusive Transition.

Adesina recalled that while signing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at the sidelines of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sept. 22, 2016, Buhari had said it “demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to global efforts to reverse the effects of the negative trend.”

He said the president followed that significant step by signing the Instrument of Ratification of the Paris Agreement on March 28, at the State House, Abuja, making Nigeria the 146th party to the Paris Treaty.

““It became binding on the country effective June 15, 2017, one month after the submission of the Ratification instrument to the United Nations on May 16, 2017 by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Bande,’’ he further maintained.

Adesina noted that the participation of Nigeria’s delegation at the One Planet Summit would reinforce the country’s commitment to realising the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

He said the President, who would depart for Paris on Monday, accompanied by the governors of Adamawa, Kano and Ondo States, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Environment, would return to Abuja on Thursday.

In it, Kaley is totally bawling. Karl is asking her how she feels and what’s on her finger. She says “we’re engaged” through tears. There’s one problem, though, says Karl: “You still haven’t said yes.” “Yes, I say yes, I say yes!” she says.

Karl captioned the ‘gram: “Who knew my prior post was oracular. Well after nearly two years I finally got up the courage to ask her to marry me. This is the best night of my life and I think the video shows it is the best night for kaley as well…..if she said yes!!!!!”

If you’re confused about what the first part of his message meant, check out his previous post, which shows Kaley being all real in her messy pony—and Karl holding a giant, fake plastic diamond ring. She’s got a look on her face:

Luckily, Karl didn't disappoint with the real ring:

We’re thrilled for the couple, who’ve been dating almost two years. Kaley was on the cover of the December 2016 issue of Women’s Health last year and opened up about surviving her divorce. She had been married to tennis pro Ryan Sweeting, but they announced their split after less than two years, something that devastated her.

“For a month straight, I would talk to my horse and just bawl. Finally I went out and the crying didn’t come. I was like, ‘I think I actually got through this,’” she told Women's Health. Shortly after that, she met Karl, and life changed. In a fun twist, she confessed to us at the time that she could see herself getting married again…

As if the first video of Kaley and Karl wasn’t enough, he also posted another of them dancing. “In life, there is nothing like dancing right after getting engaged…Honey; all I want is to be a balloon bouncing, bobbing, and flowing through life together. You are my everything,” he captioned.

Seriously, stop you two. (But don’t because you’re making us love love.)

Odd Enough: This video of Kaley Cuoco getting engaged will make you cry happy tears

2019 elections: Priest warns politicians against corruption

Corruption

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Pius Oyeniyi, on Sunday warned politicians a head of the 2019 elections to repent from corrupt and evil deeds or face the wrath of God.

Oyeniyi gave the warning in his homily at the end of the year retreat for the parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Oyeniyi, a Redemptorist working at the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Enugu said politicians should be careful not to loot the country’s resources again.

“ I want to tell you to be careful of what you do now since the Church has gathered and prayed for the country.

“You should be careful so that you will not see the wrath of God on you.

“If you know them (politicians), tell them that they should allow the children of God to eat their milk and honey.

“If not, the Lord will turn their pockets into baskets; it will start linking so that children of God will enjoy the good of the land,’’ he said.

According to him, the Catholic Church has prayed and dedicated the country to the immaculate heart of Mary.

He recalled the miracle of the Sun which took place during National Marian Congress, a programme of the Catholic Church in October, adding that it was a sign that Nigeria would experience a change.

Oyeniyi while reflecting on the scriptures for the Advent (second Sunday of Advent) said God would rebuild the country again.

Advent is a season observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant, waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas.

It is also a period the faithful renew their ardent desire for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The priest, however, urged Christians not to give up in the waiting for His coming and also for Nigerians to expect good governance.

“The Lord says to you in Nigeria, don’t give up; your God is close. He is close to your life, just be ready to receive Him.’’

Oyeniyi attributed the suffering in the country to absence of God, saying“ that is why Nigerians are suffering; we have displaced God through our sins.

“We must bring God back; evil and corrupt leaders should go while god fearing ones should come.

“God fearing leaders should take over positions because there is `valley’ that they must be filled; the Lord wants to come.

“Our God is coming to save us as a country, as families and individuals but the question is, are we ready to receive Him?

“The Lord says to Nigeria, continue to pray and I know what I will do to the evil and corrupt leaders; you will see my might hands,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyeniyi was in the parish for a week-long Annual Marian Pilgrimage with Our Lady of Perpetual help to spread the devotion to Mary.

Our Lady of Perpetual is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary as represented in a celebrated 15th-century Byzantine icon also associated with the same Marian apparition.

The icon has been in Rome since 1499, and is permanently enshrined in the church of Saint Alphonsus Liguori, where the official Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help text is prayed weekly.

Girl Smarts: This doctor is dropping a truth bomb about whether you need to shave before your next appointment

Laurel Geraghty, M.D., has something to get off her chest.

Laurel Geraghty, M.D., was a seasoned beauty editor before she became a dermatologist. Which gives her very interesting, very nuanced intel about skin care. What's on her mind right now…

"I've noticed more women are showing up in my clinic with fresh blowouts, manicures, and shaved or waxed body parts—and if they feel they appear in any way unkempt, they actually apologize to me, their doctor.

"I'm busy searching for skin cancers, yet patients have taken the trouble to impeccably groom and even wear coordinated, lacy—occasionally racy—underwear under their exam gowns.

"Here's the thing: Every woman should wear whatever and groom however makes her feel most comfortable and confident, but please don't feel you need to dress up for the sake of your doctor. The fact that you've come to take care of yourself by taking care of your health is what your doctor appreciates.

"Besides, we're all naturally dressed up already… in about 20 square feet of glorious skin."

Most of the complaints, allegations against SARS are not true – Police

SARS

The Nigeria Police Force has said most of the complaints about officials of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) are not true.

Police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood said this in a recent interview with Punch.

He said, “We are quite concerned with the complaints against SARS and that is why the Inspector-General of Police has directed its re-organisation. We know that most of the complaints and allegations against SARS are not always true, but the IG has ordered an investigation to ascertain them. He has also directed that human rights desk be set up in all the state commands to handle rights abuse by SARS operatives. So, the people who started the #EndSARS campaign can channel their grievances to the desk officers for investigation. SARS has been in existence for over 40 years and it is essential to the force, so we cannot dismantle it.”

[Read Also: Isime Esene: Dear Inspector General, we want you to #EndSARS, not re-organise it]

He added that “one or two infractions” should not lead to the calls for scrapping of SARS.

“We can’t say because there are one or two infractions, we should end SARS because if you end SARS, robbers would take over. We appreciate the patriotism of those demanding an end to SARS, but other groups are equally saying, reform SARS. So if they have any complaint against the unit, let them tell us and it would be addressed.”

NPFL SUPER SIX: Contending Teams, Their Strengths, Weaknesses

Completesportsnigeria.com’s Nigeria Professional Football League expert ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the teams participating in the Super Six  ahead of the competition which starts on Monday…
PLATEAU UNITED
All eyes will be on the Jos side to see if they can replicate their impressive showing in the Nigeria Professional Football League last term in the 2017/2018 campaign. The Super Six competition provides Kennedy Boboye’s charges the opportunity to lay down a marker ahead of the new season.
Supporters of the club are already concerned with their darling club’s pre-season form with defeat against El-Kanemi Warriors followed by successive losses to Kano Pillars and Kwara United in the Ahlan invitational tournament in Kano.
The club also failed in their pursuit of experienced forward Gambo Mohammed but have also brought in new players to improve the quality of the team.
MFM FC
The Olukoya Boys head into the competition in fine form after beating amateur club 36Lion 3-1 in the final of the South West pre-season competition at the Agege Stadium on Friday.
The Lagos side have replaced top striker Stephen Odey, who has joined Swiss club FC Zurich, with former Remo Stars hitman Victor Mbaoma.
Mbaoma looks to have settled down in his new environment after registering goals in pre-season games and already formed a perfect understanding with his new strike partner Sikiru Olatunbosun.
With the likes of Chukwuma Onuwa, Stanley Okorom, Tchato Gichard, Jonathan Zikiye, Waheed Adebayo and other key stars still at the  club, MFM look good to win the Super Six and at least banish the memory of the disappointment of missing out on the title last season.
ENYIMBA
Enyimba despite a troubled start finished third in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season and will compete in the CAF  Confederation Cup next year. That was however not enough for coach Gbenga Ogunbote to keep his job.
Paul Aigbogun is back at the club for a third stint in charge and will be keen to make a statement this time around after a not-too-impressive outing in his two previous stints.
The Peoples Elephant have kept some of their key players like Mfon Udoh, Joseph Osadiaye and Stanley Dimgba.
The arrival of Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has further added competition in  the team, while highly-rated Ghanaian defender Tofic Umar has also linked up with the team following the expiration of his contract with Ghana Premier League club Aduana Stars.

AKWA UNITED
The Aiteo Federation Cup winners will look to win the competition which could set the template for what it is to be expected in the new season for them. In Abdu Maikaba they have one of the most astute coaches in the local league. There is concern though about Maikaba’s shared responsibility as Golden Eaglets coach causing distraction.
Their only major addition has been Matthew Etim who joined them from Enugu Rangers, while they have been linked with former NPFL top scorer Godwin Obaje.
One big loss for the Promise Keepers is defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu who has joined Ghana Premier League outfit Inter Allies.
KANO PILLARS
The four-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions endured a torrid outing in the top flight last term, finishing in the eighth position. They have enjoyed an impressive pre-season exercise which points to a sign of good things to come ahead of the new season.
The Sai Masu Gida won the Gold Cup pre-season competition in Ilorin and are also in the final of the Ahlan Cup.
Influential stars  Rabiu ‘Pele’ Ali,Gambo Mohammed, Chinedu Udoji, Chris Madaki and Idris Aloma are still around, while they have also acquired the services of towering defender Stephen Eze from FC IfeanyiUbah.
HOME- BASED SUPER EAGLES
The team will look to use the competition to perfect their preparations for the African Nations Championship. It will be strange for some of the players will be up against their clubs.

"The Wedding Party 2": This is what cast has to say about anticipated sequel [Video]

Official poster of The Wedding Party 2

From Banky W to Adesua Etomi to Enyinna Nwigwe, watch cast of "The Wedding Party 2" share their thoughts.

The cast of "The Wedding Party 2" are excited and nervous about the upcoming sequel.

During a private screening of the movie, which held at Filmhouse Cinema,  Lekki, the cast – Adesua Etomi,  Banky W, Ikechukwu, Frank Donga, AY Makun, Enyinna Nwigwe – and the director Niyi Akimolayan, shared their excitement, nervousness with Pulse Nigeria.

Read excerpts and watch interview below.

Enyinna Nwigwe – Nonso Onwuka

"I'm super nervous, super exited, super everything good. This kind of opens up a different side to the stuck up guy that was seen in the first part. This shows more of his romantic  and vulnerable side.

Ikechukwu – Sola

"I feel completely blessed because not only did the previous cast come through this time, but we have added flavour to it."

AY Makun – MC

"I played myself as the MC for the wedding reception. It was fun doing it, and it doubled as a holiday trip for me. So that made it more fun."

Adesua Etomi – Dunni

"I wasn't nervous. I was more excited than anything else. As long as the Nigerian crowd is happy – that's what we were aiming to achieve, and I hope that we have achieved that.

Niyi Akinmolayan – Director

"They love it because it's very original, they can relate with some of the things in it. For Nollywood, people appreciate it when we take bits and pieces of our culture and we scale it up.

It's important that when you're putting a film on the big screen, you need to think of scale. And when you're scaling up things that people are already proud of, and you're being original, it's only natural that people will love it.

A sequel to the highest grossing Nollywood movie of same title, "The Wedding Party 2" debuts in cinemas on December 15, 2017.

Rohr Still In Search Of Quality World Cup Goalkeeper, To Assess Ezenwa With CHAN

rohr-insists-on-strong-squad
By Adeboye Amosu:  Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has admitted he is still on the look out for a quality goalkeeper for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Enyimba goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was in goal in three of the team’s last four games but Rohr seems not fully satisfied with his performance.
First choice Carl Ikeme is treating leukaemia, Daniel Akpeyi has been erratic, while youngster Francis Uzoho is untested.
Rohr is however looking to assess former junior international Ezenwa further at the African Nations Championship in Morocco where he will be in goal for the home-based Super Eagles.
Chippa United’s Akpeyi failed to impress in Super Eagles last game against Argentina despite an impressive club form, while new invitee Uzoho is inexperienced at international level.
Rohr is also  trying to lure former first choice goalkeeper  Vincent Enyeama out of international retirement as the man who replaced him Ikeme may not be fit enough to be part of the team to the World Cup.
“The last challenge is to find a goalkeeper who satisfies us fully. We are working with my goalkeeping coach, Enrico Pionetti,” Rohr was quoted by French website Football365.fr.
“The  African Nations Championship will be important to take stock. Ikechukwu Ezenwa will participate, under the direction of my assistant Salisu Yusuf. I will follow things closely.”
The Super Eagles will face Croatia in their first group game in Russia on June 16 at   the Kaliningrad Stadium.
