Prophet T.B Joshua: SCOAN founder urges Christians to hold on to their faith in God

Prophet T.b. Joshua of SCOAN has an important marriage advice

The popular cleric recently shared some words of encouragement on Facebook.

Prophet T.B Joshua urges Christians to hold on to their faith in God.

On September 25, 2018, the founder of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) posted some words of encouragement on Facebook.

In the post, he advised believers to hang in there in spite of their circumstances as "God sometimes uses foolish things to reveal His purpose in our lives."

Prophet Joshua wrote: "DON'T DESPAIR! As a Christian, whatever situation you are in now - are you sick? Are you poor? Are you facing disappointment? Are you lonely? What is your situation? Don't despair."

"You are only being preserved for your proper position and possession in Christ. It may be to prepare you for the challenges ahead. It may be to reform you for a better position in Christ. It may be to keep you for a new level in life. Remember, as a Christian whatever level we find ourselves, we believe the best is yet to come. Don't despair."

ALSO READ: Prophet T.B Joshua and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome reveal what will happen in 2018

The SCOAN founder shared a similar advice in a previous post on Twitter.

Prophet Joshua reminded believers not to allow their situation to determine their worth or value.

He said, "Begin to see yourself the way God sees you - a person without affliction, hardship, stagnation. This is the way God sees you!"

Prophet T. B Joshua offers major insight into Christianity

The SCOAN founder recently taught his congregation about Christianity. He described it as something that takes us to God irrespective of time.

In his words, “Christianity connects us to the reality of Jesus’ being and establishes the connection between the past and the present.

“Jesus existed yesterday. He exists today and tomorrow. His love, generosity and forgiveness still uplift us as His people.

This is not the first time he has shed this particular knowledge. He also discussed it during a SCOAN Sunday Service on January 27, 2013.

Using Matthew 22:1–4 and 37–8; John 21:15 and 1 Corinthians 12:7–8,  Prophet T.B. Joshua showed how Christianity is a relationship, not a religion.

Bring the National Convention to Asaba – Delta PDP Youths

Youths of the People’s Democractic Party (PDP), Delta State have urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party to bring the special national convention of the party slated for October to Asaba, Delta State, in order to “do good and just to all manner of men”.

There have been various controversies over the choice of Port Harcourt as venue for the presidential primary with some of the members opposed to the choice insisting the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, favours one of the Presidential aspirants.

“The fear of many on Port Harcourt as a venue for the national convention is understandable. It has nothing to do with ethnicity or sectionalism, people just want a truly free and fair primaries.” a statement signed by Anarbohi Matthew, the leader of the Delta State PDP youths, said.

“The decision of the NWC is final, however, as stakeholders we want to urge the leadership to put the overall interest of members at heart. Our primaries must not be an imposition but rather reflect the true desire of the delegates.”

Governor Wike has said Rivers State will ‘teach the party a lesson’ if the location of the National Convention is moved away from the state.

Despite the threat of the Rivers State Governor, Matthew insists that Delta State should be considered. “We think the leadership should bring the convention to Asaba especially as we strive to do good and just to all manner of men.

“We do not think any aspirant or party member will have any issues with Delta state. It is easily accessible for the delegates being expected across the country from Southwest, North, East and the South South.

“We also have adequate facilities and infrastructures to accommodate the number of delegates coming. We just finished hosting the African Athletics Championships and the PDP delegates are not as much as the athletics and crew that took part in that event.

“Being the home state of the Chairman of the Convention Committee, Patrick Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, it’s another added advantage that will help in logistics and limit suspicions and distrust among aspirants, delegates and major stakeholders,” he concluded.

PDP hopes to resolve the convention venue issues after its emergency National Executive Committee meeting on Friday.

Tech: A new lab-grown meat startup may have overcome a key barrier to making meat without slaughter

null

A new lab-grown meat startup called Meatable is taking on the industry's key hurdle by coming up with a way to make truly slaughter-free meat without relying on cow fetus blood, or "serum." The Dutch startup partnered with Cambridge and uses proprietary stem cell technology for faster production.

  • A new lab-grown meat startup is taking on the industry's key hurdle by coming up with a way to make truly slaughter-free meat without relying on cow fetus blood (also known as fetal bovine serum).
  • Called Meatable, the Dutch startup was born out of a partnership with Cambridge and uses proprietary stem cell technology to make faster, cheaper lab-grown meat.
  • Meatable claims its technology eliminates the need to remove any tissue from an animal — a development that would make it the least invasive method for sourcing cells yet.

A handful of startups around the world are racing to make real meat in facilities that look more like breweries than farms.

In giant steel containers akin to brewer's vats, cells from pigs, cows, and chickens will be carefully monitored and multiplied. Then, they'll be formed into burgers, sausages, and meatballs — all without a single animal being slaughtered. At least, that's the vision.

Until now, lab-grown meat startups have faced a key barrier that's something of deal-breaker for the industry: the food for the cells comes from slaughtered cows. Called fetal bovine serum, or simply "serum," the liquid remains the standard means of coaxing animal cells to proliferate.

The founders of a new startup called Meatable think they've found a way around the serum problem.

Rather than relying on cells that can't grow without a serum-like food source, Meatable's founders use pluripotent stem cells, which possess the unique ability to turn into any type of cell — from muscle to fat — without serum. Other lab-grown meat startups have avoided using pluripotent stem cells because they are notoriously hard to control in a lab environment.

Yet the Meatable team claims they've developed the secret sauce to making them behave. It involves proprietary technology created in partnership with Roger Pedersen, a stem cell biologist and founder of the University of Cambridge's Stem Cell Institute, and Mark Kotter, a Cambridge neurosurgery clinician scientist.

"Serum is out the door for us. We don't need it in any way," Daan Luining, Meatable's chief technology officer, told Business Insider.

A team of heavy-hitters in medicine and meat

Based in the Netherlands, where Dutch researcher Mark Post made history by creating the first beef burger from cow cells, Meatable is stacked with a team of heavy-hitters in medicine and cell-based meat.

Luining previously worked as a research strategist for the nonprofit cell-based agriculture foundation New Harvest; Pedersen founded the first institute for stem cell science at the University of Cambridge; and Kotter founded Elpis Biomed, a British biotech startup that specializes in making cells for research.

"What I saw was too good to be real," Luining said of his first meeting with Kotter, when he demonstrated his approach to working with stem cells. "Then I saw that is was real."

The company has raised $3.5 million from three venture capital firms — BlueYard Capital, Atlantic Food Labs, and Backed VC — and several angel investors, including former Microsoft strategist Charlie Songhurst and Jörg Mohaupt, who founded global payment company and Stripe competitor Adyen.

Faster and cheaper slaughter-free meat?

Many cell-based meat companies get the stem cells for their products from a small piece of tissue taken from a live animal.

Meatable claims it avoids this procedure entirely by sourcing stem cells from animals' umbilical cords. This is the same process that people use to bank a baby's stem cells at birth. So-called "cord blood" is collected because the stem cells it contains can be used to treat a variety of disorders and conditions ranging from leukemia to sickle cell disease.

"This way, we don’t harm the animals at all, and it's material that would otherwise get thrown away," Krijn De Nood, Meatable's CEO, told Business Insider.

The key to Meatable's approach isn't merely the way they source the cells. Instead, it's how the startup coaxes them into the right kind of cells — the cells that together makeup the kinds of tissues that people eat.

"When you have a stem cell, it doesn't know which program to run," Luining said. "Our technology turns on the right program at the right time."

For example, if Luining wanted a stem cell to turn into a fat cell or a muscle cell — two types of cells that are found in every meat product — he and his team could direct it to do so using their proprietary technique.

"You can think of it like running a muscle application or a fat application," Luining said.

Meatable plans to start with beef burgers and sausages and then expand to chicken and pork products. Luining said the technology will lend itself to scaling up to more complex products like steak within a few years.

Luining hopes to see those beef products in restaurants in four years. The startup will likely launch products first in the Netherlands, where he said the regulatory environment is more friendly to cell-based products.

"We're coming back to where it all started," said Luining.

Maku calls APC, PDP governorship aspirants to join him in rescuing Nasarawa

makuTHE former information minister and National Secretary of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Hon Labaran Maku has called on aspirants from All progressives (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join hands with him in rescuing Nasarawa State.

Maku, who is the only governorship candidate of the APGA in Nasarawa State, made the call on Friday while addressing his supporters in Lafia.

According to him, APC is a party of injustice which was why aspirants from the state petitioned their national headquarters to realise lists of delegates because those in power have changed it to rig the primaries.

He said that people aspiring to be leaders must have the courage to challenge injustice just like the one APC is perpetrating in the state.

Maku said that if he is elected as the next governor of the state in 2019, he would do justice to all irrespective of religion, tribe or political parties.
He also promised to appoint more women as Commissioners.

The former information minister also promised to used the security votes to establish cottage industries in order to generate employment to the youths, attributing the insecurity in some parts of the state as a result of the unemployment rate and government insensitivity.

Maku, therefore, called on the public to vote for APGA candidates in all elections in order to reposition the state.

What Not To Do: Your next taxi ride can be safe or wild – It all depends on you

Taking good precaution before requesting for a taxi can be a saving grace in case you run into a potential kidnapper posing to be a cabbie.

It is important to make plans for your safety when travelling in a taxi.

It offers an option of ease and comfort when compared to a ‘danfo’ but the experiences of some passengers in the hands of cabbies especially in Lagos have indicated that moving around in taxis can be classy but dangerous.

Consider these when hailing your next cab.

1. Don’t board a taxi if driver shows up in wrong vehicle: It was a little over 1am in April when I ordered a cab. On the app it showed that I should expect to be picked up by a driver who rides in a 2007 Honda Accord car.

ALSO READ: Woman reportedly escapes from Taxify driver who tried to kidnap her

Unfortunately, he showed up in a different vehicle. After questioning him, I identified him as a threat and called another taxi. He tried to explain to me why he showed up in a different ride but it didn’t make sense. Similar experiences  have been captured on Twitter.

2. Watch out for taxis that don’t look like one: Maybe all cabbies should hang a signage on the roof of their vehicles to help with screening dangerous drivers.

In Port Harcourt, a lady risked her life to escape from suspected kidnappers. She decided to jump out of a speeding car when it had dawned on her that she has entered a one-chance vehicle.

She observed that the taxi didn’t really have an appearance suggesting that it is used for commercial purposes. She had ignored the signs.

ALSO READ: Taxify driver reportedly absconds with rider's money

3. It is safer not to ride alone: The cab-hailing market has seen competitiveness that has captured the economic class of people living in Nigeria. Some platforms offer an opportunity to share a ride with other riders. That’s not a bad thing to explore in your quest for safety.

What Not To Do: Your next taxi ride can be safe or wild – It all depends on you

A non-governmental organization in Africa with headquarters in Nigeria, Connected Development (CODE) has applauded the World Bank for its $611m (221bn) support to the federal government of Nigeria through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) initiative. The BESDA which is a World Bank initiative aims at increasing equitable access for out-of school children in Nigeria and improve literacy in focus states and strengthen accountability for results, in basic education in Nigeria.

READ MORE: Nigeria Air has failed but we still need accountability

In a press release on Monday, September 25, 2018, CODE’s CEO Hamzat B. Lawal said “it is exciting to read that the World Bank is investing in strengthening Nigeria’s education sector to enable her meet, sustainable development goals on universal basic education for all — amongst other targets; especially in Northern Nigeria where most of the out-of-school children reside. Mr. Lawal however, reiterated the need for institutional strengthening for transparency, “particularly in providing salient information on how these funds are expended, so that citizens can hold government accountable; as well as ensure sustainable investments by elected governments to meet Nigeria’s education needs, especially basic education.

This intervention by BESDA will help in no small means to reduce the growing number of out of school children in the country which according to UNESCO is the highest in the world. A fact reiterated by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) which puts the number of out of school children in the war torn North Eastern part of Nigeria at over 1 million due to the activities of the dreaded Boko-Haram sect which has increased the total number of out of school children in the country to about 8.7 million.

This fund will help in no small way to reduce this figure and reposition education in the country. With the existence of CODE’s Follow The Money platform, the judicious utilization of this fund is guaranteed. Through its “Follow the Money model, CODE provides marginalized and vulnerable communities with resources to amplify their voices with independence and integrity; as well as information that ushers social and economic development through online and offline platforms that close the feedback loop between citizens and the government to enhance social contracting and accountability.

CODE through Follow The Money has tracked the implementation of N569.5m ($1.5m) Universal Basic Education [UBE] funding across 23 projects in 20 communities with the support of the State Government in Kaduna, and have since commenced the tracking of N12bn UBE (2013 – 2016) funding for 597 projects across 18 Local Government Areas in Ondo State.

Opinion: Fallout of Osun governorship election, the gods are not to blame

The gods are not to blame in Osun

Here is a politician who failed to focus on the primary reason he was mandated, rather throwing himself around as heir-apparent to the APC South-West throne.

Ede, the sleepy town along the Osun River in Osun State is the setting of the Ola Rotimi classic, The gods are not to Blame.

The plot of this tragic play, bears some relationship with the political situation in Osun State, where the incumbent ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), contrary to general expectations, could not wrap up its hold on power in the State at the first time of asking.

It seems like the APC will eventually clinch the governorship election in the rerun, but the conversations must go deeper than the binary win-lose narrative.

The Osun Election is becoming a question that has been on many people’s minds. How can the PDP, with all of the challenges it has had since 2015 and with little or no structure in the South West, achieve such a bold, ambitious and telling hit to the reputation of the APC, in what is supposed to be the stronghold of the Mandate Group, a political group within the APC, seeking to among others, install the next governor of Lagos State?

As a South-Westerner, who is a keen admirer of the APC, I have been running an inquest into this situation and I find a somber correlation between themes in the Ola Rotimi classic, set in the same State where the drums of electoral war are currently being sounded.

No matter how we look at it, the rerun in Osun State has taken some sting off the momentum of the APC in its quest to consolidate its hold on the Presidency and the 3 other South-West States that will take to the polls in 2019 to elect new Governors. This is a setback that must not be understated, and the blame must be put squarely on the shoulders of the self-proclaimed leader of the Mandate Group, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Fate and Determinism

Like King Odewale, the Protagonist of The Gods are not to Blame, who emerged from leading the people of Kutuje to conquer their enemies, Ogbeni Aregbesola emerged from the ashes of an AD pummeling in the South West by the PDP in 2003, to wrest power. With Osun established in the PDP’s South West kitty, Aregbesola fought an arduous battle which took him to the courts to claim his mandate, unseating Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who was already in his second term.

Aregbesola became the poster-boy for the resilience of the ACN (a party the AD later metamorphosed into), in its bid to reclaim the entire South-West. Fate played its part, so also did hard work and strategy on the part of Jagaban Borgu, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Like King Odewale of The Gods are not to Blame, a new leader, had emerged. Well, so it seemed. This was meant to be and Ogbeni was in the right place at the right time.

Mistaken Identity

Aregebsola took up an identity as the soon-to-emerge leader of the APC in the South West, focusing largely on building a political base, perhaps to the detriment of his electoral mandate to deliver good governance to the people of the State. The jury is still out on his performance.

While some people feel like he has done quite a bit in soft and hard infrastructure development, there is widespread consensus on the damage his non-payment of workers’ salaries has done to the economic lives of the people of Osun State.

Here is a politician who failed to focus on the primary reason he was mandated, rather throwing himself around as heir-apparent to the APC South-West throne. He probably assumed too much of himself and has been humbled by a PDP that is barely standing on two legs, in a contest where he had significant home advantage.

The APC at the National, South West and Osun levels need to be very circumspect and cautious about celebrating what looks like a victory in the Osun State rerun. Whilst the party may have won the battle, the PDP has been given a clear indication that it can match the APC in the South-West when untested candidates or their stooges are put on a ballot in the eventual war in 2019.

The APC has to particularly be careful in Lagos State, where a Jimi Agbaje must be rubbing his palms in anticipation of more than a fighting chance he must know he has against a Jide Sanwo-Olu, if the APC settles for that candidate. This can domino to other States across the South-West and across Nigeria, especially in the light of some significant defections from the APC to the PDP.

A famous thought from Ola Rotimi’s The Gods are not to Blame reads: “Sickness is like rain. Does the rain fall on one roof alone? No. Does it fall on one body and not on another? No. Whoever the rain sees, on him it rains. Does it not? It is the same with sickness. If it so happens that the APC struggles to consolidate its grip on power across the South-West and the country, the gods must not be blamed. In Osun, they served the spectacular, but this was met with the ordinary.
