Signore Fusion unveils Japanese-inspired collection, "Kabuki"

The Kabuki collection, created by Evans Akere and Emmanuel Isei, makes use of Japanese styles and bold colours on South-South caftans.

Signore Fusion, the diffusion brand of Vanskere, unveils the Kabuki collection.

Created by the designers Evans Akere and Emmanuel Isei, the Kabuki collection attempts to merge Nigerian and Japanese cultures.

According to the designers, "Kabuki is a Japanese word which means 'out of the ordinary which can be identified as Avant-garde."

During the process of design and research, the designers discovered that modern day Tokyo was called Edo, between the period of 1603-1868. This period was characterised by economic growth, strict social order, stable population and popular enjoyment of arts and culture. This period can be seen as the best period in history of Japanese arts and culture.

Coincidentally, Edo is also a state in Nigeria, West Africa. This gave way for a fusion of Japanese and African culture.

As usual, the menswear collection played around with bold colours, geometric prints, fashion forward styles, modern silhouettes and rich aesthetics for the collection. This time, however, they merged traditional with modern, giving us kimono-inspired caftans. What do you think?

‘INEC is the reason I’m yet to start campaigning’ – Jimi Agbaje breaks silence

The flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 gubernatorial election in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje has responded to concerned supporters of his candidacy as well as critics of his slow pace approach to campaigns for the 2019 governorship election, attributing the delay in commencing, to what he described as “keeping to the rules of competition.”

In a series of tweets on his Twitter handle on Monday, the former National Chairmanship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in assuaging the anxiety of his supporters to get the campaign on the road, quoted the election schedule released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a restriction to do same, stressing that even if it sounded unpopular to do so, he had no choice but to abide by it.

“Let’s be clear, the INEC rules guiding this election unequivocally state that campaigning for the 2019 gubernatorial elections shall not begin until the 1st of December, 2018. In their words – not mine – and I quote,

“For the purpose of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party (not just candidates) shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day.

The 2-time governorship candidate said the forthcoming elections were not just a contest to be won but about changing mindsets and sending a strong message across Lagos that under his watch,  it wouldn’t be business as usual, adding that he has chosen to begin his mission is to fundamentally transform the way government works for the greater good of ‘Lagosians’ by setting an example of obeying instructions.

“I implore everyone to please hold on to those wonderful banners, posters and boards until the 1st of December. Let’s win this one again, the right way,” he said.

German ex-nurse admits killing 100 patients

German HoegelA Germany former nurse accused of killing 100 patients in his care admitted on Tuesday to the murders on the first day of his trial in the biggest serial killing case in the country’s post-war history.

Asked by the presiding judge at the court in the northern city of Oldenburg whether the charges against him were accurate, Niels Hoegel replied, “Yes.”

“What I have admitted took place,” the 41-year-old told the courtroom crowded with dozens of grieving relatives.

Hoegel has already spent nearly a decade in prison on a life term for other patient deaths and is accused of intentionally administering medical overdoses to victims so he could bring them back to life at the last moment Aljazeera reported.

As the proceedings began in the northern city of Oldenburg, presiding judge Sebastian Buehrmann said the main aim of the trial was to establish the full scope of the murder spree that was allowed to go unchecked for years at two German hospitals.

“We will do our utmost to learn the truth,” he said. “It is like a house with dark rooms – we want to bring light into the darkness.”

After a minute of silence for the victims, the bearded, heavyset Hoegel listened impassively, his head lowered, as public prosecutor Daniela Schiereck-Bohlmann read out the name of each dead patient and the charges against the defendant.

Prosecutors say at least 36 patients were killed at a hospital in Oldenburg where he worked, and about 64 more at a clinic in nearby Delmenhorst, between 2000 and 2005.

More than 130 bodies of patients who died on Hoegel’s watch have been exhumed, in a case investigators have called “unprecedented in Germany to our knowledge”.

One of the more than 100 co-plaintiffs in the trial, Christian Marbach, said it was a scandal that Hoegel had been allowed to kill with impunity for such an extended period of time without hospital authorities or law enforcement intervening.

“They had everything they needed to stop him you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes,” Marbach, the grandson of one of the patients, told AFP news agency.

Alleged $8.1 Billion Repatriation: Court Hears MTN vs CBN Case Dec. 4

MTN

A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned till Dec. 4, hearing in a dispute between MTN Nigeria and the Central Bank of Nigeria over alleged illegal repatriation of $8.1 billion by the telecoms company.

Justice Saliu Saidu also adjourned till Nov. 8, hearing in a case of $2.0 billion tax non-payment made against MTN Nigeria by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

MTN filed the suits. It is seeking an injunction to restrain the CBN and AGF from taking further actions to reclaim the alleged debts.

The CBN alleged that the telecoms firm improperly repatriated dividends. The apex bank requested that MTN should return $8.1 billion  to its coffers.

On the other hand, the AGF claimed that MTN did not pay taxes on foreign payments and imports of approximately $2.0 billion. It demanded that the company should pay the sum.

MTN, however, denied the allegations.

On Dec. 4, the court will hear an interlocutory application by the MTN seeking to retrain the CBN from taking steps to reclaim the alleged debt.

The court will also hear an application by the CBN challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case.

Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) appeared for the MTN while Mr Seyi Sowemimo (NAN) appeared  for  CBN.

Here are 5 most common sex injuries

Here are 5 most common sex injuries

Ever had a missing vibrator in your vagina before?

You won't be surprised about muscle pull when it comes to sex injuries – but what about a penile fracture?

Not a lot of people think about injuries when it comes to sex, most people think about pleasure when they talk about sex, but sometimes there is pain involved. Below are a few surprising strange injuries from being too adventurous in the bedroom.

1. Vaginal tear

A vaginal tear is exactly what it sounds like, a small cut or tear to the entrance to the vagina, or the vaginal wall. Although, in most cases, the tear will heal on its own. If it's large you should see a doctor and to avoid them make sure you use enough lube to prevent any friction.

ALSO READ: 3 reasons you might go off sex

2. A fractured penis

This is every man's worst nightmare. A penile fracture occurs when an erect penis is hit with considerable force. The penis is made up of three cylindrical tubes, two of which fill up with blood when a man becomes aroused. The tissue surrounding these tubes also expands. However, if the penis is hit with force – such as a woman's pelvic bone when thrusting a little too enthusiastically – it can bend and cause a pressure overload in the tubes and in turn cause a fracture.

3. Having a rug burn

As with any kind of burn though, make sure you wash the area with cool water and antibacterial soap afterward. Try using an antibiotic ointment afterward to keep it from getting infected.

4. Foreign objects in the vagina

Firstly, you should never put anything in the vagina that's not designed to go into the vagina. But even vibrators and other toys can get lost. If you lose anything down there you need to see a doctor.

5. Back injuries

Back injuries can happen during any physical activity – sex is no different. If you think you've thrown your back on something cool on the muscles to help ease swelling or try using pain relieving gel.

Mahrez Dedicates Winning Goal Against Spurs To Late Leicester City Owner

Manchester City’s ex-Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez dedicated his sixth-minute winning goal against Tottenham last night to his former Foxes chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha by pointing to the sky, according to Belfast telegraph.co.uk reports.

Thai billionaire Vichai, who owned Leicester, was among five people killed when his helicopter crashed shortly after taking off from the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

Mahrez was a key player for the Foxes from 2014 until the end of last season, and when he helped Claudio Ranieri’s men shock the world by winning the Premier League in 2016, Vichai bought the Algerian, and each of his team-mates, a new car.

After Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Wembley, he said: “It’s been very difficult. The boss was very special to me, I spent four and a half years there.

“He was such a good person and I’m very, very sad. That’s why I put my hands in the air for him. He did a lot for me and for Leicester. He was like a dad to us. He had a very big heart. I was heartbroken to hear the news. It’s a difficult situation and I’m with Leicester and the families of the victims. I always wanted to play, he would have wanted me to play. He was passionate about football.”

City manager Pep Guardiola was delighted with the way his team ground out the win in tough conditions due to the Wembley playing surface, which was feeling the effects of Sunday’s NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“It was a great victory in special conditions, against one of the most physical teams in Europe, he said.

“We had many chances. We have to score and we didn’t. That is why hopefully we will improve.

“It was not football conditions. We reacted well. For our players and the players of Tottenham, hopefully they will sort the problem for the future.

“In the first 15-20 minutes of the second half we should have the game over and the big events, like the Champions League, if we are not more clinical, we are not going to win them.

The City boss also hailed the performance of Mahrez.

“He’s playing at a high level, scoring goals and making a lot of assists. He’s a guy who doesn’t lose the ball and gives us everything he gives us in that extra pass, added Guardiola.

“Of course he knew the Leicester owner and for all the Leicester family it’s tough and complicated because a lot of people passed away.

“Here though, he did really well, he was focused and did a great job.

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld said: “I think we deserved more, we worked very hard, and we had a good opportunity but unfortunately missed so it’s frustrating.

“You don’t want to concede early against City but our response was good.

“Harry Kane went through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and with a bit more luck we could score.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said of Erik Lamela’s missed chance: “When the ball was going to Erik I said, ‘Goal’ but, watching the replay, the ball bounced before his boot and that is why he missed

“It was a great game in difficult circumstances. I feel very proud. The effort was fantastic, we competed really well. It is a shame we conceded after six minutes but the team was good. I am happy with the performance.

On the goal conceded, he added: “Very poor. It is our mistake. We conceded a very cheap goal. In the big games, you cannot concede a goal like we conceded. It was very competitive. It was a great game. We lost but I think playing City, they suffered the most (they have this season).

The real story behind the Aba women's riot and the list of people that died

Aba women riot 1929

The Aba women's riot of 1929, often referred to as a war, resulted in the death of 51 women and 1 man.

The Aba women's riot did not happen spontaneously, but had months of tension leading to it. Here is the real story behind the rebellion and the people that died.

Power in Igboland had very large disparity between ruling in other parts of Nigeria. Igbos did not have a unified political institutions as in the North and South hence it was harder to enforce the indirect system of ruling, instituted by Lord Lugard in 1914, in Igboland.

The Aba Women's Riot featured women rebelling against economic and socio-political oppressions in Bende, Umuahia, and other regions of Igboland. Over 10,000 women came out to protest from majorly six ethnic groups: Ibibio, Andoni, Orgoni, Bonny, Opobo, and Igbo.

Brief history

The indirect rule system in Igboland involved the appointment of 'warrant chiefs.' These warrant chiefs, who weren't necessarily people that were respected by the communities, became the enforced symbol of power. And as result of the vested power, the warrant chiefs became increasingly oppressive within few years.

ALSO READ: The real story behind Freedom Park

Direct taxation on men was introduced in 1928 without major incidents, thanks to the careful propaganda during the preceding twelve months. In September 1929, Captain J. Cook, an assistant District Officer, was sent to take over the Bende division temporarily from the serving district officer. Upon taking over, Cook found the slated nominal rolls for tax inadequate because they did not include details of the number of wives, children, and livestock in each household. He decided to revise the nominal roll to include these.

The war and its implications

The riot bubbled from a town called Oloko, where the warrant chief, Okugo, sent his representative Mark Emereuwa on the morning of 18 November 1929, to conduct the census for the tax. Emereuwa entered the compound of a widow named Nwanyereuwa, while she was processes palm fruit, and instructed her to "count her lives stocks and people living with her."

Knowing fully well that this means you will be taxed based on the number of the outcome, Nwanyereuwa became embittered; and in replying, she said, "was your widowed mother counted?"

This simply means that women were not supposed to pay tax in Igbo society. Anger was however expressed with exchange of words and ended with Nwanyereuwa pouring her palm oil on Emereuwa. Threats were also exchanged.

The widow proceeded to the town square to find other women who were already deliberating on the tax issue and explained to them her sad experience. Nwanyeruwa's account prompted the women to invite other women with the aid of palm leaves from other areas of the Bende district.

Approximately ten thousand women were gathered, and a protest insisting on the removal and trial of the warrant chief was staged. It would go down in history that the effect of the Aba women’s riot prompted the British administration to drop their plans to impose a tax on the market women and to curb the power of the warrant chiefs.

In addition, the positions of women in society were greatly improved as women were appointed to serve as chief warrant in some areas.

The fallen revolutionists

The Aba Women's Riot resulted in the death of 51 women and 1 men. These are their names:

The Rise of Cosmetic Surgery in Nigeria

When 27-year-old Modupe Ozolua introduced her plastic surgery company, Body Enhancement in 2001, in Nigeria, she promised that her introduced business held the secret to a youthful appearance with offerings of plastic surgeries, facelift, Botox, tummy tuck, breast augmentation, laser liposuction among others. Despite the criticism from members of the public, her expensive service attracted the bourgeoisie of the society. Among the bourgeoisie who embraced this new method is the self-confessed liposuction doer, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

This service gained momentum (to reaffirm their suspicions) when the former first lady of Nigeria, Stella Obasanjo reportedly died of a tummy tuck. Hinging on the reveal of her death, Nigerians decried this new method.

Modupe Ozolua

Again, in December 2017, the Nigerian social media space was abuzz with information that seemed alien to the conservative Nigerian culture. Linda Ikeji TV aired a trailer of Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh showing her enhancement procedure. From all indications, Tonto Dikeh was happy with the new enhancement and had even posted pictures of her new body.

While some of the divided Nigerians accused her of not appreciating her natural body, some praised her for telling the truth about her new physique and looking more appealing and a lot of people looked forward to the yet-to-be-seen video.

Stella Obasanjo. Photo: Flickr

17 years later, Tonto Dikeh has become one of the many Nigerians who has embraced this new craze of cosmetic surgery.

An often-misused term, plastic surgery is often interchanged with is often applied to people who are trying to fix damaged body parts such as skin grafting while cosmetics surgery is for beautification purposes. While there are various reasons why people have adopted this service, in a country where the that comprises (mainly) conservatives, cosmetic surgery is becoming a fast-rising favourite.

There is a sudden decrease in the number of people seeking to have slim frames. (Rather, there is a surge in seeking wider hips, bigger bottoms and contoured breasts.) This is further propagated by the alleged praises of music powerhouse Beyonce of the Yoruba women of Nigeria’s frame and Kim Kardashian’s supposed surgery and Instagram users’ obsession for the new perfect body, it is not surprising how quick the world is changing their idea of how the perfect body type should be. With the varying and increasing preference of women with bigger endearments, research finds that people felt more confident after doing it thereby encouraging cosmetic companies to introduce non-surgical drugs and creams as substitutes.

Tonto Dikeh after her cosmetic surgery. Photo: Yabaleftonline

Yet, cases of ruptured silicon, deaths during surgery and disfigured bodies abound.

However, caution should be taken before undergoing surgery, there is a need to make sure that the doctor is a board-certified plastic surgeon.

More so, whatever you do, evaluate yourself on your level of self-love before making this life-altering decision.

APC govt is committed to overall well being of Nigerian youths ― Senator Wamakko

APCTHE Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, says President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), are fully committed to the well-being, welfare and safety of Nigerian youths.

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko spoke in Sokoto when he flagged off the three-week training of four hundred unemployed youths from across the twenty-three Local Governments of Sokoto State in five vocational training on security and automobile fields.

The programme includes, closed circuit television Installation and Maintenance (CCTV), Car Tracker Installation and Maintenance, Smoke Detector Installation and Maintenance, Auto Dialer Construction and Maintenance, as well as Electric Fencing Wire Construction and Maintenance.

The beneficiaries of the training include holders of the National Certificate in Education, Ordinary and Higher National Diplomas and First Degrees.

Wamakko describes: “APC as a political party has Nigerian youths at its heart.

“APC and its leader, President Muhammadu Buhari are religiously inclined and committed to further improve the living standard of youths, in all ramifications.”

ALSO READ: Thank God I once failed all my papers at UNILAG —Chike-Obi

The former Governor further averred that no nation can afford to play with its youths as they are the future leaders.

He added: “Doing so would have negative and dire consequences on the socio-economic development of the nation.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has diligently tried to fulfil his campaign promises of economic revitalization, fighting corruption and curbing youths unemployment, among others.

“The party and its flagbearers, at all levels, have done a lot, but there is still room for an improvement.”

Senator Wamakko added that the gesture was to help in further making the beneficiaries self-reliant and productive, so as not to rely on elusive white colour jobs.

Also speaking, the State Deputy Governor and APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, who maintained that the invaluable gesture would help to reduce unemployment, youths restiveness and poverty.

Aliyu also appealed to other elected officials in the State to emulate Senator Wamakko, who has made the State as his entire constituency in all his people-oriented programmes and policies.

“An idle mind is the devil’s workshop and this training is critically crucial in empowering the beneficiaries.

“I am therefore appealing to them not to betray the tremendous confidence reposed in them, as well as the huge funds expended in the training,” the APC gubernatorial candidate added.

Man Caught Red-Handed Raping Neighbour’s Cat – Reports

Cat 2

The suspect had reportedly committed similar acts in the past, engaging in sexual activities with at least one dog and several cats, though the authorities apparently weren’t notified about any of these cases until now, according to Spuitniknews.com reports.

A man in South Africa was apprehended by the authorities after he was caught red-handed while copulating with his neighbor’s cat.

The incident occurred when the cat’s owner heard her cat howling and screaming and, upon investigating her neighbor’s residence, found the suspect holding the feline by its rear legs and penetrating it.

Prem Balram, a spokesperson for a private security company called Reaction Unit South Africa, whose officers responded to the call, said that the man was attempting to get dressed when the responders arrived.

“Officers entered the home and found the man dressing. His pants were covered in cat hair. The man was removed from the property after the neighbors voiced their concerns for the safety of the children living in the vicinity,” Balram said, as quoted by Irish Mirror.

He also revealed that the suspect “had been previously caught red handed having sex with a dog and other cats,” and that these cases weren’t reported to the authorities because “the suspect’s girlfriend had pleaded for forgiveness.”

This is what Governor Ambode told new Permanent Secretaries

Ambode: This is what Gov told new Perm Secs

Here is what Ambode told the new permanent secretaries he just swore in, as his tenure draws to a close.

Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode swore in new Permanent Secretaries on Monday, October 29, 2018 and charged them to ensure effective service delivery to a city of over 22 million people, as his tenure as Lagos Governor draws to a close in a couple of months.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are Dr. Olabisi Taiwo (Ministry of Health), Mr. Olusegun Ajibade (Public Service Office), Mrs. Abiayo Akinsiku (Primary Healthcare Board), Dr. Yusuf Jimoh (Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations), and Mr. Ganiyu Rufai (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives).

“With this appointment, you have all effectively become the Accounting Officers of your MDAs (Ministries, Departments and Agencies). You have been entrusted with a bigger and more sensitive responsibility which will put to test your leadership and managerial skills, Ambode said.

Lagos infrastructure and service delivery is suffering

Lagos is experiencing something of an infrastructure crisis at the moment. Roads are crumbling, memorizing where potholes have sprung up has become a daily routine for Lagosians, roads are flooded immediately after the slightest of rainfall, refuse heaps dot door steps and drainage channels and miscreants lurk in dark street corners to rob and scare.

Ambode reminded his crop of new permanent secretaries that the next couple of months won’t be smooth sailing for them all because of the enormous work awaiting them in their offices.

“Let me remind you of the very high expectations that will be placed on you, not only from the government but more importantly, from the over 22 million Lagosians who desire efficient and service delivery. Your ability to meet these expectations will depend on the amount of creativity and innovation you can bring to bear in the discharge of your responsibilities.

“Nobody expects you to reinvent the wheel. What is expected of you is to bring to bear your knowledge and experience so that the machinery of governance can roll faster and deliver more quality results to the teeming population of our state, the governor told his new hires.

Ambode's humiliating end

Ambode’s second term bid crumbled like a pack of cards after godfather Bola Tinubu and the APC grassroots political structure in Lagos, deserted him for allegedly not carrying party loyalists along.
